With all the buzz around SSB4, I feel like now would be a great time to create this topic. So, which of the already-released Smash Bros. games is your favorite?

Melee. It had the best, and most varied characters.

Original SSB had a varied selection, but only 12 including the 2 unlockables, Ness and Luigi.

The third had so many similar characters. And I just didn't quite like their system as much.

I like SSBM the most, because it has a more competitive feel. The N64 one is ok, but it doesn't hold a candle to SSBM and SSBB imo. Brawl is nice, but it feels more like a party game to me. I'm somewhat competitive with Super Smash Bros, and I think Melee is the best when it comes to competitive play. It's also the best Super Smash Bros overall to me, due to the characters, feel of the game, maps, etc.

I'm honestly going to say Brawl. The reason is quite obvious, more variety. There's more stages, characters, more items, and more everything. I didn't even like the very first one on 64 in the slightest, but I do plan on trying to buy Melee sometime. :3

I would have to say brawl is my favorite. As WheatleyCore said it simply has more to offer than the other games did. I loved melee but brawl was better just because it had more. I never got a chance to play SSB 64 though...

Top 3 time!

3) Melee - The AI was great, but it lacked a certain potential. I don't know if that makes sense...

2) Smash Bros. - So many hours spent playing this game. It'll always be admired for kicking off one of the greatest fighting game series of all time.

1) Brawl - For reasons stated above, it had more variety, and just had a more pleasant feel to it compared to its predecessors. While it feels a little impaired in AI compared to Melee, it generally felt more complete. More concrete. More... better-er-er... Yeah...

Yeah, Brawl is my favorite, but I have a feeling Smash 4 is going to wow me more than anything so far. I'm probably hoping a little too high, but I have faith. It looks absolutely phenomenal from the small amount of content we've seen so far. Nintendo never really fails to make me smile, so, I definitely have faith the next Smash will be a great experience ^_^

I'm going to have to go with Melee. It was really close for me between Brawl and Melee but I had to go with Melee because of just how awesome the gamecube was and how I spent way more time playing Melee than I did Brawl. As for 64 I've only gotten to paly it on a few ocasions so I can't really judge it right now.

My favorite is Super Smash Bros Melee. I played all the 3, and I am gonna play the new one when it comes out. I hate the idea of you can lose a live really fast in the first one. And for Brawl, the characters are just to slow. I love melee because it's fast paced and to not die so fast. I still play this game sometimes. :)

Melee. While I did enjoy the additional content that Brawl had compared to Melee, I enjoyed Melee's gameplay much more. Some of the changes they made to the game's core gameplay just made it less fun to play overall despite having more modes/ characters/ stuff. After the novelty wore off and I found myself playing the same basic modes, I got bored much quicker with Brawl than I did with Melee.

Brawl is my favourite, but also probably the worst for competitive play (tripping...sigh).  But I'm not a professional competitive player most of the time so whatever.  Brawl is absolutely the most fleshed-out experience of the series so far and I appreciate that.  Going back to the older games after Brawl feels like playing a tech demo just because they're so bare-bones in comparison.

I mean, it's a pretty superficial feeling; Melee has tons of extra stuff to it...Brawl just has several more tons of extra stuff to it.

I would say brawl, because it's the latest version, it has more characters, more stages, more modes, online mode (even if it's crappy), more of everything. None of the smash games were a disappointment so to me, each one had it's own moment of enjoyment, everyone is different from the other, and I'm sure the new one will be different as well.
