Doctor XFizzle 8,669 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 I just had a thought how about when you hover over someone's username and that little summary box pops up, we have a line in there with "Best Known As" and users put their most known username they've been going by the longest that way when someone changes their display name, you can see who it originally is without having to go through the hassle of going to their profile page then username history of course this will only work as well as users really put their most well-known username in there MLP Forums' resident timelord, sports dilettante, and purveyor of wit and humor~*Traveling Timelord Nonpareil*~
Princess Periwinkle 3,775 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 Or you could have the "best known as" name automatically be the one that you've had as your username for the longest amount of time.

Champion RD92 8,658 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 Well my old name was RainbowDash92, but no one really knows me by that unless they knew me way back then :/
Thrashy 2,800 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 (edited) Sounds like a good idea to me. It's kind of odd going through your friends' status feed and coming across someone you don't even remember adding. I think the B.K.A. username could either be the name you had for the longest time, but just as good (if it could be done) would be the name you made the most posts under. Shiki 5,855 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 (edited) Or you could have the "best known as" name automatically be the one that you've had as your username for the longest amount of time. So I'd be best known as "Kirino"? That's wrong. So wrong. That's not who I am known as. Everyone would agree that I am officially "Sugar Plum." The entire idea sounds kinda familiar, as if it were previously brought up. Also, not only would the automated system not work; if every one got to pick what they're most known as, you know people aren't really going to do it -- they'll just put something absolutely silly. Even if we had some kind of system put in place that would only allow users to choose from a list of their previous usernames (rather than manually typing it in), people aren't going to properly use it, probably. I'd probably put "Chiaki," because no one knows me as "Chiaki," so I'd get entertainment out of it. While the idea isn't bad (it'd be good for users like me), I can't think of any method of implementing this that is practical enough to be worth the effort put into it. King 5,625 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 Personally I can see why somethIng like this would be considered, however I find it rather redundant when you can already check a users previous user names. That's just my POV though. Goddamn right, you should be scared of me Twitter
Concord 1,982 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 Hello! Well, I don't believe it's something that will be considered... People change their names a lot of times, and usually, they want to forget the old ones and just stick with the new one. It would be a horrible idea if the little box would show the "Most used username". Some people may have spent 6 months with their old username, but they might have made more friends in a further 3 month period. I don't really see the point... 1 Thank you MatrixChicken for the Signature!
Sapphire Quill 1,186 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 I actually think this is a wonderful Idea, But Instead of Making it, That It's the username that They've Actually had for the longest, It's what the user chooses Themselves, Like, Lets say. I've had the name Sapphire Quill more than any other name I've Possibly Had, But Lets say I wanted to Be Recongised As Ameratasu As I had More friends with that name, per say, There would be an Option to change it, just so it Suited the persons needs I would Guess. But I still highly Agree With this Option, it sounds wonderful, and useful. ~Sakura <3 ✧ Made by Azura, Much Appreciated ✧
Zygen 6,066 July 4, 2013 Share July 4, 2013 I think it'd be nice to have something like that, or maybe even make it so in the dropbox you can select the "Username change history" thing? I dunno if thats possible but it could possibly work. I think the automated system might not work for people who change their names alot. I guess having an input could work assuming its used. Idk I'm fine with just checking the username history most times, only times its a hassle for me is on my mobile device. Otherwise it takes 5 seconds normally. Flow 1,629 July 5, 2013 Share July 5, 2013 (edited) Well I used to be Narutardedscum till I changed my name to my favorite OC, however I guess that to help my usual peers know who I actually am on this site, I put in "DBA Narutardedscum" as my member title. As for the topic, I guess I can agree with this. Seems like a great idea. (Oh yeah, I prefer DBA because I don't like using AKA on my title!) Twi Rubix 726 July 5, 2013 Share July 5, 2013 It sounds like a good idea, but like Concord said, some people want to be known by their new name instead of their old name. Besides, the username history display is always there.
MatrixChicken 879 July 7, 2013 Share July 7, 2013 Sounds like a great idea to me. It should be an optional thing; I see what Concord is saying about wanting to forget an older username. But it would be nice for some of the lurker-ier (lol) people like me to be able to see who someone used to be called so that we wouldn't feel all embarrassed when we act like we've never seen someone before, but we actually know them somewhat well. It's happened to me before... A couple of times... e_e Deviantart: MatrixChicken | Youtube: ThunderFilmStudios | Twitter: @JohnAlBerge Twitch.tv: ThunderFilms | Soundcloud: ScootriX Scootaloo vector by robzombiefan2121
