A headcanon of mine.

As most of you know Equestria seems to be in a state of peace with all the creatures (Saddle arabia ponies, Dragons, Griffons, Mules, Minotaurs,zebras etc) Except ofr the changelings. Now why doesn't Equestria have a country that have a rivaly with it? (Changelings dont count since they dont have a kingdom). My headcanon is that Luna and Celestia not only raise the sun and the moon for Equestria, But for the whole planet their in. So The other countries Made peace With the princesses so that they get thheir share of moonlight and sunlight. So that being said Eternal Night was not a smart move by Nightmare Moon because all of Equestria would be crashed By the other countries because The deal was  broken. Even Discord can't defeat the entire world by himself so he raised the moon and the sun all by himself as stated in Return of Harmony because if he din't then he would be destroyed by the Dragon Empreror. what do you think of this headcanon?

In response to your claim that Changlings lack a kingdom:

"Don't make me hurt you!"

 

It's an interesting thought.  Maybe the night/day system was developed as part of a treaty with foreign powers.  I don't think dragons have anything to do with it because ponies know next to nothing about them.

That makes sense. Would fit into this ongoing theme I have of the other races having a resentment of the ponies due to how OP they are.

Makes sense. Raise the sun and moon in your country and the entire world will benefit. I don't agree with anyone being able to defeat Discord though unless the Dragon Emperor also had something of equal power of the Elements of Harmony.

 

Another idea is if anyone opposed the ponies they banished them to the moon or turned them to stone with the Elements of Harmony. Y'know because they can. Twilight felt completely morally okay with reforming Discord with a spell against his will if she could. That probably says that it's okay to disregard other people's will if it is for the greater good of pony kind. Just a fun, random idea.

It's an alright idea, but I see a few problems with it. 

 

For starters, I don't think the dragons have an empire. They seem to live alone and only come together for the migration. Besides they mostly sleep all the time and would not care if the sun was up all day or if it was eternal night. Also they don't seem like brights bunch.

Yes, he does have the power to disrupt time, but why would he do it? This is Discord we are talking about. He has the power to disrupt the minds of anyone who comes close to him. Dragons may be nothing more than kaman house fly's to him.

 

So this idea needs a little work if you ask me.

The Changelings have never once said they have a kingdom. Most likely they take over an area, make that their kingdom until all the food runs out. Than they move on to the next one.
