SwiftMotion 130 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 Now I'm not the best at Grammar or spelling, but how important is grammar. What I mean by this is, when I talk to friends or family I tend not to use good grammar and when I write letters to; Jobs, Bosses and Companies I will try my best to sound professional. So my question is, how Important is grammar to you and when do you use good grammar. And if you can give me some advise on how to use good grammar. 6 Jest ask and ill draw. Zygen 6,066 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 I try to use good grammar regardless(Unless I'm just acting silly). But i'd say overall you don't need perfect grammar for all conversations. i'd say the place its least important for me is while playing games, I use alot of abbreviations while playing games because I'm trying to get my point across to my team faster. Its most important on applications and in school and stuff, because it increases your chances of getting the job or getting a good grade and stuff. On here I just try my best not to mess up, sometimes I do sometimes I don't. I don't really have the best grammar honestly, English is easily my worst subject. 3 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Milk Wave 454 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 Grammar would be one of the most important things in your life to get you around to places. Mainly because people like formal writing and its a whole lot easier then writing in a txt or slang language. Most people consider it formal too, so it makes you look better in general instead of a dumb person who cant write/type correctly. I do use proper grammar a lot when it comes to certain things, but if its chatting to your friends I usually keep the informal grammar to no capitalization but that's just about all. It's kind of a peeve for people to write without caps, proper spelling, and punctuation since you have to practically decode the message which takes longer and makes your brain heat up. But mainly because its just frustrating to read things like that. 3 A shoutout to Dr-Whooves for making this sweet thing~ Anyway, go ahead and visit my http://mlpforums.com/user/380-sirius-crescent/'>About Me page for my characters :3 Engaged to Steel Crescent as of 5/1/2013
Moonlight 7,286 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 The importance of grammar to me depends on the situation. Most of the time, I attempt to use correct grammar at least slightly, no matter who I'm talking to; family, friends, whatever. I usually try to sound professional. I just role with whatever makes sense, in all honesty. The only time I don't care about having basic grammar is when I'm acting silly on purpose. 2 matching setups with my bff pathfinder

Blue Moon 6,341 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 Well, grammar is very important to me and I try to use proper grammar as best as I can in most of my conversations. I like to sound as proper as I can, so that is why. I may correct you from time to time, but I'll usually just ignore anyone else' grammatical errors. Using proper grammar can be useful as well. If you use improper grammar to a certain degree, it may make your intended message come out wrong or make it harder for the reader to figure out what you're trying to say. 2 Autumn Blue Moon Clear Skies Summer
ReverseFaller 2,483 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 (edited) I 'dun no need for grammar, ya dig? I just gots to make a lliving in the streets, ya know? Who need that fancy shmancy grammar? I do believe grammar is of utmost importance. Decent grammar can make a person come off as educated, and overall classier. I don't care for ebonics. When people talk like I did in the sentence above it irks me. Edit: By the way, I based the first sentence (bad grammar) off of how I heard one guy in Minneapolis talking. Gone Airbourne 21,977 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 (edited) Alright I am going to say one thing. Grammar is very very important and in many situations. However I am terrible with punctuation and mine is not at all great . But I do try the best that I can and honestly I ought to take some time to polish my Grammar skills alongside with my typing speed. I plan on doing so but I think if someone at least tries their best to spell correctly I think that is a good effort in itself. But yes it is very important and in saying so I plan on improving and reviewing over some basic principals that get overlooked and forgotten. ~StatesTheOblivious~ 1,795 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 Grehmmour yur tawking whut iz tis abhout? Seriously, I don't care for some errors here and there and I'm struggling with it myself. But too much is too much. English is not my native language, so it is twice as hard for me to try my best. So, in english it is not as important to me as it is in german. Always find it funny when I see some basic errors done by any native speakers. Grammar and structure are necessary to be understood. It is easy to fail in what you want to express, if your grammar is bad. So a few mistakes don't bug me as long as I know what someone wants to say, even though I always tend to correct them in my mind. 2 "If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences." - W. Mr Dash 1,820 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 I do my best to use good grammar all the time. Especially when I am writing/typing. I always reread what put down, and if It is a post, I reread after I post to triple/quadruple check myself. If I notice even one little mistake, I edit the post to fix it. The only time when I don't use good grammar, is when I am messing around. I am more of a grammar Nazi to myself, rather than to others. Though, as StatesTheOblivious said, I too don't care if someone makes a few mistakes, as long as I understand what they are saying. And I usually correct someone in my mind as well. 1 Like, don't underestimate my power man. Come join us Friday nights for Movie Night @ The CMC Clubhouse: 5pm CST. BrainyBrony 252 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 I find grammar extremely important and I use it almost all the time. I've been called 'posh' many times but I just respond with 'Typing correctly makes me posh then, does it?'. The only time I won't use much grammar is online. In a game I shorten messages so I can get my point across before someone butchers me. But in between games or in a lobby I still tend to use grammar. And if you can give me some advise on how to use good grammar. I have a few tips. Read! But take your time when reading and notice where the author places certain types of punctuation. You could also search 'When to use a comma' online and stuff. I tend to read my writing through when I'm done so I can make corrections where necessary. But I personally think your grammar's fine! But not as good as me.

fimdash 1,196 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 I try my best to use correct grammar. It may come off as pretentious at times, but there's a lot of good that comes out of it. Being exposed to correct grammar helps improve one's grammar. One of my English teachers once told us that his spelling would get thrown off because he kept reading papers with misspelled words. By seeing correct grammar usage all the time, our own grammar will improve. That's the main reason why I try to write as grammatically correct as I can. It also makes one's posts more eloquent and easier to read. If the grammar is really bad, it could change one's entire message completely.
Harmonic Revelations 8,835 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 Grammar is very, very important. I do however believe that perfect grammar is not required, as long as other people can understand you without having to go back and reread what you said several times, it's probably okay. However, when speaking on a formal level, people should use the best grammar that they have the ability to use.

ReGen 1,466 July 8, 2013 Share July 8, 2013 I believe proper grammar is key if you want to be recognized as an intellectual. And people are more likely to listen to you if you know the difference between "your" and "you're". Clockwork Chaos 219 July 9, 2013 Share July 9, 2013 Spend long enough on the internet and you'll learn immaculate grammar. Seriously, if you use improper grammar at school, you get a little red mark, but on the internet, you'll just get relentlessly chastised until you've learned your lesson well enough to not make that mistake again.
