gaming Anyone heard of Matthew Patrick?

If you guys haven't heard of Matthew Patrick, then I highly suggest you check him out. He has videos of a whole assortment of knowledge on many topics. He connects history, science, sociology, and psychology with video games. It makes these topics very interesting and should leave you with a greater sense of appreciation into how a human mind concocts the beauty known as video games. I particularly suggest this one, since it was the first one I've ever watched. Enjoy!

I cannot agree more with you. I don't know of anyone who can tie everything together so well. He's good at what he does and is smart, seeing as he has to make lots of long complicated equations.

I am not creative so... Battlefield

Hell YAY-uh, love MatPat. Not only are his Game Theory vids thought-provoking and surprisingly educational, but there's something about his voice that just amuses me to no end. It almost sounds like he's constantly trying not to laugh.

What's also so awesome about Game Theory are the pictures he uses to illustrate his point. It's very entertaining and educational. He's like the Vsauce of video games!

Love Vsauce, too! ^_^

Admittedly I don't always agree with some of the leaps of logic that go into MatPat's theories, but the cool thing about that is that it always opens up a forum for discussion on a topic that most people wouldn't even have thought about otherwise. Did you see the Adventure Island GT? I never would've thought about the whole Philippines thing.

...Of course, there are always the YouTube commenters who like to bitch at him like "you're over-thinking it" or "you're ruining the game for everyone", but those people are better off ignored. >_>

I haven't watched that one yet! I should sometime! Other than the Wario Fart, another favourite of mine was the most recent video: Mario is a Communist! It's hilarious, and it's also frightening to see all the connections he makes! Now if only Nintendo could confirm...

Oh yeah. I only watched the "The Dark Side of Mother" game theory, though. But seeing that he released a new one about Earthbound...

I see comments referencing his "A GAME THEORY! Thanks for watching!" closing statement from time to time. For example, this:

Although that first comment brings up a few interesting points about Stallord's origins (it would also partially explain why the song heard during the second part of the Stallord battle is a remix of this song from Ocarina of Time, which is first heard during the King Dodongo battle), it shows how much influence Game Theory is having on the gaming community if people are referencing it wherever they possibly can.

Honestly, I wouldn't have guessed Game Theory to have THAT much influence. His view count's only in the hundred thousands on average after all. Still, I love his insights and I'm very glad other people are concocting theories for intellectual discussion.

About time someone talked about Game Theory on here ^_^ ...I am very impressed with MatPat and Gaijin Goomba (mind spelling).  Rony's Digressing and Sidequesting is very intriguing from a gaming mechanics standpoint, but I wish there more to his episodes and a bit slower talking (i have to watch his videos about 3 times before I can understand what he's saying).  I love GG's cultural approach to games since I really take that into consideration in my look upon video games.  and MatPat, he's way out there on some of his stuff, but overall, his show says that he really put research into his videos.  As of late though, I haven't been too impressed with his latest vids because he seems to be leaning more towards entertaining and not teaching/theorising.

I am not a "gamer" (I only play Pokemon and Minecraft), but I am fascinated by the gaming world in the technological and story-telling aspects.  I am not sure how to explain it, since I don't really talk to anyone about this subject (my husband could care less and none of my friends are gamers), so I am not sure how to word my desire to research gaming and how it affects culture, global society, and technology as a whole.

That is still a lot of views though. A whole lot more than most of the other gaming videos I see explaining things about games. Maybe because of the way how MatPat presents Game Theory.

That is true. Comparing him with other game theorists makes him a giant doesn't it? Nonetheless, I'm glad that it's someone like him who takes the spotlight.

MatPat's the freakin' bomb, man. Game Theory's one of my favorite YouTube series, and good ol' game Exchange hosted by Gaijin Goombah is also fantastic. Not so much a fan of Digressing & Sidequesting, but hey, can't please everyone now can ye. :P
