Beginner Roleplays?

Okay, first off, I expect this post to be unnecessarily longwinded and awkward. Just a warning.

Basically, I had been thinking about doing a roleplay designed specifically to introduce newcomers to the roleplay world, and to help them get the hang of it. Then I thought maybe I should do a whole series like that, for two reasons: A) The original roleplay might not be one that appeals to all newcomers, and this shouldn't prevent them from having an easy way to get into roleplaying. So I thought it might be best to have roleplays designed to introduce players to different genres and styles of roleplaying.

So I began to wonder how a series of these roleplays would work out. Except then I realized that they would eventually have to end, either from reaching a conclusion, or simply dying out from loss of interest. That would severely limit the number of people who could benefit from them to those who happened to start roleplaying during the time when the RPs were going on. And there's also the fact that an RP can only get so big before I can't DM it effectively- I've learned that the hard way. Thus I came up with the idea of making an entire section for beginner- or perhaps a better word would be introductory- roleplays. Given that there's a section dedicated to advanced roleplays already, it seems fairly reasonable.

I can see point you are getting across but personally id create a set of tags to define the roleplys and remove advanced section completely. Tag for beginner, adept and advanced or something similar. And just hav the rp planning and actual rp sections existing

Actually, I would agree with that. I've always had an issue I can't quite explain with advanced roleplays having their own section. I guess either way works for me, really, whether it's a tag or a section.

The reason that the Advanced section is it's own complete section is because it requires longer post lengths, it has a higher Character minimum, and increases post count, where as Roleplays in the general section do not. So that is why it's a separate forum and I prefer it to stay that way.

However, in regards to the situation at hand, I see no real issue with this. It will have to be done in a way to make sure we aren't dividing the Roleplay World based on Skill, but I'm completely down with the idea of a section for people to get their feet wet.

I can't help but feel you've rather contradicted yourself.

Well I know absolutely nothing about roleplaying, I've never done it, and technically i've yet to write a backstory really for my ponysona even. And its my only OC at the moment.

I suppose it could be a good idea, but since I know nothing about roleplaying i dunno. How would you differ it from the normal? Would you explain roleplays in a more simple manner? Or like would it just be so people don't feel as intimidated as looking stupid? Or making mistakes with others who don't know much either?

I suppose it could work, honestly most of the reason I never have done RPing is because first of all I never took the time to learn about it, I don't do great with writing backstories and characters and stuff(Atleast I think.) and between all the posting i try to do I dunno if i'd have time.

But I suppose it could be a cool idea, who knows maybe I'd get into it, just to get a taste. It might drag more people in, who knows.

What stopping us from creating a new roleplay thread with [bEGINNER] in the title? :o

The current non-advanced roleplay section should be enough if one should want to attract new roleplayers and the like. No need for a new section, it would only create that segregated me-better-than-you feel.

What I found was that with four of the roleplays I was involved in, there was still loads of character development and emotional intensity even when we placed it in the typical roleplay section. We just didn't want to have to worry about the 800 character post limit in case we were stuck in small chatter or we ran out of ideas at some point. Many of our posts in those roleplays can hit 1000 characters regularly when we could, but we couldn't do it all the time.

So really, I found that the Advanced Roleplay section did a decent job in instilling even greater intensity to roleplaying, even more than what many of us can handle. The roleplays aren't divided by skill. It's divided by intensity. The "beginner" roleplays would be useful if you took off the character limit, which is quite ridiculous to me. They wouldn't get their feet wet at all because all they would post is nonsense, ruining the point of the roleplay. I was a complete beginner at roleplaying and I didn't need a beginner roleplaying section to get my feet wet. In fact, all I did was read an outside guide to worthwhile roleplaying. I have links if any beginner roleplayer wants to see them.

I like the idea of there being roleplays for beginners. As others have said, I don't think a new section for it would be necessary, but a "Beginners" prefix could be added to the normal Roleplay section.

Personally, I've never participated in any kind of serious roleplay ever, and I don't really know where to start. A designation for easier roleplays would be a great feature for people like me who were interested in roleplaying, but had little to no previous experience doing so.
