Twi Rubix 726 July 16, 2013 Share July 16, 2013 (edited) It really depends, honestly. In most cases, I think older bronies do have it better. I'm talking about how insults are taken, and how badly you're critiqued. If you're younger, let's say you're a public brony. You wear pony shirts and such. You'll probably be laughed at by your schoolmates, maybe even in public, and will have a tough time. Worse, if you can't deal with that kind of thing very well, you can have a rather difficult time for however much longer you're at that particular school. (I should know, I got picked on about alot of things in my days, it felt awful.) You may also have a tough time with emotions, depending on your age and who you are. Coming from a 16 year old, being a teenager in High School, admitting you're a brony would be one of the worst places. As an adult, it's a little easier. Again, say you're a public brony. You got your own job. Adults are more understanding and less immature as kids, and will respect your opinion on what you like more. Not to mention you probably have your own home, and you can have a different job if it ever gets out of hand on your old one. (Not to say that's the main reason you quit.) While more eyebrows will be raised because you're a full grown male, it can't possibly be as bad as an adult. BrainyBrony 252 July 16, 2013 Share July 16, 2013 Older Bronies don't just get it easier because they can buy what they please. They can easily avoid haters (Well, easier than us younger Bronies). This is because, in high school, people are extremely judgmental and anything that is slightly different to society's 'norm' is frowned upon. If you are an adult, you most likely can easily find your own way around haters, but if you are a young boy/girl, you must attend school every weekday, being grouped together with the haters. Basically, when you're younger, anyone who acts differently is made fun of.

Thrashy 2,800 July 16, 2013 Share July 16, 2013 (edited) Yes and no. I would submit that it's a bit easier for us older bronies to shrug off any ridicule from haters, since the insults people throw at you as an adult amount (or at least, should amount) to a resounding jack-point-shit. Not all adults have such thick skin, to be sure, but it’s generally a safe assumption that teens and preteens tend to be a lot more emotionally vulnerable to insults than adults. So in that regard, perhaps it is a bit easier for us. At the same time, the notion that adults can “do whatever they please” is somewhat of an illusion, at least for many of us. I’d love to go to Bronycon, and even though I’m an independent adult with my own car and enough funds to make it all the way over to the Eastern seaboard, it’s far more trouble than it’s worth as it would set me back quite a bit, financially speaking. Not to mention, my boss would probably throw a hissy fit if I were to take that much time off. So yeah, while we technically have freedom from parental authority, it’s simply not always pragmatic for us to exercise our right to do as we please. Real-world constraints...they suck pretty hard. sunset_sprint 190 July 18, 2013 Share July 18, 2013 Its really not to bad being older, lol. I'm 27 and I can buy and enjoy pony merch as long as my budget allows. I'm getting married next July to the most amazing women and she doesn't mind my pony endeavors. I really wish she was able to go to Brony Con this year. ReverseFaller 2,483 July 18, 2013 Share July 18, 2013 I'd say yes and no. Yes because they have the freedom to spend their money on whatever they want, they can drive to cons, and stuff like that. No, because they gotta pay taxes, bills, what if they have kids? Also if you're like 35 or so and people know you watch ponies, you'll probably get lots of crap for it. IronPonyApplejack 318 July 18, 2013 Share July 18, 2013 As a 26 year old brony, I can speak to that. Yes, I have more money that I can spend on stuff. However, I also have to use that money on bills. On gas. On all sorts of things. I can go where ever I want. But I have to go to work. As far as who I can watch the show with, that has nothing to do with your age. That's a personal thing. Either you care if people know you're a brony, or you don't. Me, I don't. Being older can be nice, but I can't just do whatever I want, whenever I want. All that extra money and freedom comes with more responsibility. If you're at all familiar with #Twitterponies, you can find me there! Betez 1,734 July 19, 2013 Share July 19, 2013 Honestly, I wouldn't say they do. Older Bronies fall more into the stereotypes that most haters have, where as younger, teenage Bronies don't as much. LightsCameraAction 100 July 20, 2013 Share July 20, 2013 Being 15, I say yes, they do. My problems are: -Can't go to meet ups -Can't drive to cons -Can't watch the show having parents nearby -Have to hide stuff from parents -Have no money for stuff Me also being fifteen can say this is partially true. As far is going to meet ups and/or cons, that is a totally valid point, we cant go. But as far as hiding stuff from your parents, I think that is more along the lines of a closet brony, but I do understand that you mean because you are living with them. And the money situation is very flexible, I personally got a job this summer to make almost 1000 bucks. But for many younger people that isn't an option. John 793 July 20, 2013 Share July 20, 2013 These are not problems with your age. They are problems with you, namely that you are insecure as hell. That's no way to be. And a 13-year-old can still get cash, OP. Mow lawns or something. And the fandom's as strong as ever. Unless the show ends, I don't see it dying down anytime soon. It's not always as easy as it was for you. Some of us would prefer just not to tell other people because regardless of how normal we see the show as, others will not see it that way. It's a personal choice and it should be respected. And yes, being 19 and In college I can pretty much do whatever I want without having anyone there to say no. I wouldn't say "older" bronies have it better, I would say: 13-16 Have it the third Worst. 17-21 Have it the second best. 22-29 Have it the best. 30-39 Have to deal with being a bit older than everyone else and being ridiculed for this. Third best. 40-49 An even more extreme version of the previous comment. tie for third worst 50-59 Ditto. Have it the second worst. 60-99 Ditto. Have it the worst. :] I'm sure you all can imagine why.
