[Skycoaster 697]

Skycoaster

Skycoaster awoke refreshed and full of energy. He could hear the birds cheeping in the hotel's garden. He walked over to the hotel's window and looked out.

"What a beautif...." He looked up at the sky and let out a heavy sigh. "Right...This again..."

 

He grabbed his saddlebag full of training supplies and flew off towards the park where he was to meet the weather team for the day.

An orange streak graced the sky as Sky flew to the park, clearing a path of clouds along the way.

 

"Good morning Pondah. I see you've taken me up on the weather team offer?"

Caramel's face lowered, then with a quiet sniffle, she grinned and nodded at Ember, "That's mighty fine plan you got there. I honestly don't know what to say other than...thank you." Caramel brushed her mane back with her hoof, "I will give 'er my all Ember! You can count on this cowpony to sing the night away!" She said triumphantly. "Yer one smart pony Ember." Caramel winked at him happily.

[The Elusive Cinder 1,328]

Trotting happily out of the hotel, Bubble looked about the street that was gradually getting more familliar. Checking how many Bits she had remaining, she set off with at cheerful pace with purpose: after last night, she had a plan.

 

Of course, with the missing pages of the notebook it wouldn't be easy - and she wasn't actually an inventor or scientist or anything - but if she could rebuild her sisters machine then it would solve so many problems!

As a voice boomed from the skies, Pondah lept from his seat. Before he fled the scene, Pondah looked up and saw it was Skycoaster, drifting through the air leaving an orange gash in the sky. When he heard why he'd been addressed, his eyes widened in shock. "What?!" ​he said, with surprise. "What offer? I don't remember any contracts or sign-ups!" ​Pondah was now pacing back and forth with in anxiety as he continued. "Oh no. What have I gotten myself involved in? An unknown job involving weather! I might have to fly and I can't fly. I'll be letting everyone down! What of it's a job at the..."  

 

Pondah's voice became quiet. 

 

"Rainbow factory."

"I'm joking with you." Skycoaster said as he landed next to Pondah. "It's khl just that this was our designated meeting area for the weather team meeting."

 

Sky looked around for the rest of the team. Not seeing them he let out a sigh.

 

"I can get you a office job if you'd like here in Baltimare if you'd like. It a simple job and you don't have to have wings to be part of it." He said with a smile.

​As Skycoaster landed, Pondah shuffled away slightly and turned his head away. When Sky had actually finished speaking, Pondah's eyes bulged in surprise. "Seriously?"  he said with disbelief. "You're willing to just offer a job to somepony who's never worked before. What if I fail and mess up? That'll put you out of a job and it'll be my fault. I don't want to make you lose your job."

 

​Now quaking both internally and externally, thoughts of failure, ineptitude and disappointment began to nag at Pondah's mind.

Thunder Dash saw a cafe nearby and noticed Ember with a friend. He then built up electricity and teleported. He appeared right next to Ember with a poof. "Hey Ember! What's up? Haven't seen you since that night at the Baltimare Grand Hotel. Any plans for today?" He asked.

Caramel jumped from her seat in surprise before flinging her hooves around in some fake karate stance. "Doncha know better than sneaking up on somepony when they ain't expectin company?!" She then took a deep breath and sighed before plopping down back into the seat and looking up at Thunder Dash questioningly. "Sorry about that...the name's Sunny Caramel. Are you a friend of Ember's?"

"Yeah, we met at the park. As you can see I'm a pegasus. But I have an ability, which Ember knows about, that other pegasai don't. Ember and I met when I was at the park a couple days ago, when I was playing guitar. He was the first pony in the crowd to greet me. By the way, sorry for scaring you." Thunder Dash said.

Even though today was Rut-Light's day off from work, he still liked to wear the cap he wore when he drove trains; just to block out the sun.  As he freshened up by means of a shower, breakfast and some coffee his thoughts drifted back to the previous days events: his argument with his boss the train to Ponyville...the incident at the bridge; never in his entire life felt more scared for the safety of the train, the cargo and himself it made him feel like if he made one wrong move, one errant twitch on the brake and he wouldn't even be here today.  After all, The 4-4-0 played a major role in the development of rail transport on Equestrian rails; sure they weren't the most powerful locomotives in recent times but they certainly were back in their prime years besides, they could hold a lot of coal thanks to those tenders most of them had.  "Every Locomotive has its advantages and disadvantages." said Mr.Light as he donned his engineers cap and walked out of his house and into the bright sun of Baltimare and headed for the nearest hobby shop; one that sells model trains of course.

Blundering around the shops, Bubble clung tightly to the notebook (not wanting a repeat of the day before) as she scanned through her sisters barely-legible writing and picked through various items: most of which weren't mentioned in the slightest in the notes.

 

'Yeah... that should do!' She thought to herself, looking over the various mismatched items that barely resembled those on the paper proudly.

 

Carrying the bags back to her hotel room she was pleased to see that the reception staff were no longer looking annoyed with her: misinterpreting the bemused smiles they were giving her, she gave a cheerful wave and left again to collect more supplies for her project.

"I wouldn't say scared...more like flustered but I suppose it's alright." Caramel smiled kindly to Thunder, "Any friend of Ember's is a friend of mine." She flicked her ear like Ember and nodded bashfully, "Are ya any good at guitar? Back home, we used to have the finest hoof-flickin guitar players in Equestria."

"Pft, hay yeah I'm good. I'll play you something sometime." Thunder Dash said. "Oh, and want to know the amazing ability I have? Pondah, if you know him has been fascinated by this ability and so have other ponies who I've shown, not to brag or anything..." Thunder Dash added.

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt," Caramel said with a smile. There were so many strange ponies in Baltimare..."The appearin outta nowhere was pretty darn neat for a pegasus. I haven't even seen Ember do anythin like that." she winked at Ember kindly. She then watched Thunder intently, slightly nervous.

"Oh, that only one of the many things I can do." Thunder Dash said as he gathered some electricity and made some nearby napkins levitate off the table. He then gathered a little more and made them disappear. He then made them reappear in his hooves. "Well, what do you think?" Thunder Dash asked. "I've had this ability since I was a young colt." He added.

A small bit of static popped in Caramel's mane. She shook her head in wonderment as she looked at Thunder Dash and the napkins he held in his hooves. Tilting her head, she questioned him curiously,"What would ya call that there? If it ain't magic then what is it?"

Ember smiled happily that Caramel liked his plan, clapping a hoof on the table.  "Heh, don't worry about thankin' me...  I'm more than happy to help out a friend."  He blushes just a little as she calls him smart, but before he can say anything in return Thunder's arrival catches him off-guard.

Ember pushes backwards as the pegasus appears, flailing his hooves as a wave of sparks shoot out of his broken horn.  "Ahh!"  After gracelessly falling on his flank, the young stallion tries to pick himself back up with a little bit of dignity.  "Woah...  Sorry...  Oh hey, you're the pony from the park.  Thunder, right?"  

 

((Thunder, Ember wasn't at the Baltimare Grand ))

 

He watches quietly as Thunder and Caramel get introduced, smiling a little to see them getting along so well.  He had seen a couple displays of the pegasus' strange powers the day before, and while he was still curious about them he had heard Thunder's initial explanation.  After a moment he answers Thunder's question about their plans.  "Actually, I need to re-stock after an....  Unforeseen, unavoidable combustion of certain flammable and explosive materials...  And then we're going to work on a great fireworks display for tonight!  I don't suppose you know how to get in touch with Bubbles do you?  I still need to let her know that I'm not canceling that firework show I promised."

"Look, Baltimare's weather team is in desprate need of help, and since we are low, I just thought you would like to help out. It's a very simple job. All you have to do is report, in a letter, if the weather matches the forecast that Cloudsdale has set for the day, and mail it to the weather factory."

 

Skycoaster looked up at the could filled sky and just shook his head. "I can't do this myself you know. These weather ponies are going to be the end of me." as he looked back to Pondah. "I'll take care of the flying and training, and cloud clearing. I just need help with the paperwork park. OK? Maybe you can get that cute mare that hangs around you to help you?"

"Yep, that's me!" Thunder Dash said still holding the napkin in his hooves. "And I don't think I've heard of that pony...Bubbles. After this, I'm gonna go ahead and search around for her. And I love fireworks displays, especially the ones that come around the holidays." Thunder Dash said.

Thunder Dash then turned to Caramel. "Well, it's actually magic in the form of electricity. I can wield electricity in my body and convert it to magic power." Thunder Dash explained.

"Well, it sure is somthin else," Caramel said turning to Ember. "You don't have to go back on your word Ember." She smiled selflessly, "You can put up that show for that pony if ya want." Shifting over to another seat at the table, Caramel patted the one she previously sat in with her hoof. "Wanna take a load off before ya head on?" she asked Thunder.

"Eh, I'm good." Thunder Dash said as he put the napkin down on the table. "Anyway, you said you wanted me to look for bubbles right? Well, I guess I'll be going now. I'll try to find you guys once I get in touch with her." Thunder Dash said building up electricity. "See you guys later." He said as he disappeared with a poof. He reappeared a few blocks away from where he was last.

It had taken three trips (and the help of two friendly strangers) to get everything that she thought she might need back to the hotel. Getting everything upstairs was the hardest part but by that time the staff seemed to have decided that whatever she might be doing was interesting enough to merit some assistance.

 

Once she was alone, Bubble pushed the bed aside with some difficulty to reveal a larger area to work and slumped down onto the ground. Fishing about in the bottom of the borrowed saddlebag, she located her sisters spare goggles and opened the notebook.

 

"Wow... This looks really hard..." She murmured, squinting at the pages as she flicked between them. After a few minutes of contemplation, she turned the book the right way around.

 

It still didn't make much sense.

Thunder Dash looked everywhere for Bubble. He searched the train station, he searched the park, and anywhere he could think of. He then built up electricity and disappeared with a poof. He then appeared with a poof in a hotel room. There, he saw a pink pony reading a book. "Phew, there you are. I was lookin' all over for you." Thunder Dash said.

Blinking as Thunder disappeared again, Ember chuckled and looked at Caramel again.  "Heh, two birds with one stone!  Well, three birds really.  With this display tonight I get to keep my promise, do a little self advertising, AND draw a crowd for you all at once!"  The young stallion beamed proudly - he really thought he had come up with a good plan. 

 

Before he could say anything more Ember was interrupted by his stomach growling.  "Hehe, umm...  Maybe we should order some breakfast!"  Ember laughed quietly and rooted around in his bag for his coin purse.  "You paid for my room last night, I can at least get us something to eat."

A smile spread across Pondah's face as he nodded his head. "Yeah..." ​Pondah announced. "That's sounds easy enough. I'm not concerned about the pay; I'm just happy I've got a job. I would like to earn at least one bit a week though. I'll go ask Bubble now!"

 

​Turning back towards the hospital, Pondah began to gallop towards Bubble's hotel with the offer of a job. Strangers shot disapproving glances at him as he tore through the streets but Pondah had more important things on his mind. In record time, Pondah was in the lobby of the hotel.

 

"Um... excuse me," ​Pondah asked at the reception. "Which room is Ms. Bubble in?"

"Room 1022," the receptionist replied in a robotic, monotone voice. 

 

​Like a missile, Pondah screamed through the corridors and up stairs with eager agility. Almost colliding with several room service trollies, he reached Bubble's room. He paused to gather his breath before knocking.
