DOM DIED?! :( I played Gears of War 2 and I have to say I was almost crying at the end when Maria showed up. Dom's wife. I was like HOW HORRIBLE he was looking for her all throughout the game only for HIM TO SHOOT HER AT THE END TO END HER MISERY!!

I admire him though cause he did it out of love and because he no longer wanted to see her suffering but it WAS SO SAD!! :(

Could you guys please make use of spoiler tags? I was just starting Persona 4 >.>

I have two nominations. The first would be:

Shadow the Hedgehog's, from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Before he was resurrected in following games, it was the saddest thing ever. For those who don't know his tale from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, he was a life form created from artifice, taught the ways of morality through restricted love; and sacrifice in united strength of will against Gerald Robotnik's world-threatening ARK. Even though he hated humans for killing his love Maria when GUN soldiers shut down the ARK, he defied his lifelong ethics and wishes for the greater good, sacrificing himself and stopping the ARK from impacting Earth so that an inferior race may prosper. Coupled with the music that played when Sonic returned bearing the news, it's definitely the saddest video game death I've seen. Sayonara Shadow the Hedgehog!

The second would be:

Yours, from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. This part really moved me. Having spent such a long game adventuring with your partner, going to hell and back (or the future and back) and coping with betrayal and the loss of dear ones, you couldn't have a tighter bond with your partner in this game. So for you to have killed Primal Dialga with the knowledge that the restoration of the normal timeline would result in you being erased from the present - that leaves your partner alone. The sequence of events with your partner returning to the beach where you met them for the first time... watching the bubbles over the beach as they did when they first found you... and recollecting on your adventures together, coupled with the music that plays, is incredibly emotional. Wonderful, wonderful game.

>most saddest

wut

Anyway, I thought the "death" of the player after

beating Primal Dialga in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 was a real tear-jerker. And it was worse than death. You were being completely erased from the space-time continuum. So no afterlife.

I mean in the end you got off the hook, but in the moment it was the saddest thing ever.

I've not played many games where there's been many sad deaths (I get way too emotional in games :P). I'd have to say in Cave Story though whenever someone would die they'd give you a powerup that you'd use a lot and every time you'd use it you'd remember your late comrade.

It would really leave the game with an extremely impressive dark/sad atmosphere.

No way, I was about to say this whole post with the exact same two points but I decided not to '-'

Now I'm feeling sad and happy at the same time, the game was 'good' that's about it, but honestly the whole charm of the game would make me want to recommend it to anyone P:

Dark Souls spoiler

The worst death in all of gaming is that of Solaire of Astora. He was so grossly incandescent, like the sun! We would engage in jolly cooperation!

Thank God I was able to save him on accident before finding out he could die.

The saddest game deaths for me:

Cole MacGrath in the good ending of inFamous 2, and John Marston in Red Dead Redemption. I only watched my little brother play Red Dead, so it didn't affect me as much when John died. However, inFamous hit me right in the heart.

See, the thing with that game in particular is that for the longest time they sort of get you into the mindset that it's a relaxed, kiddy story about talking Pokemon exploring and stopping a thief from taking these weird gear things, nothing more.

And then all of a sudden, bam. It's like a soap opera from then on out.

I tried real hard to think of someone but can't think of anyone. In the games I like to play you can save everyone that might die and I always do so, or they come back later on some deus ex machina BS. Maybe Persona 3

Shinji from persona 3 I guess

I'd probably say Fable II when your dog died. I chose in the end to make everyone who died in the spire come back rather than my family and dog. For a long time I had an empty feeling inside me, and that DLC you can get to make your dog come back just didn't feel like it was my real dog.

I'll be sure to check it out ^-^ I do love me some lil secrets and I've already forgotten who's going to have the sad death :P so no spoilers for me. Thanks for the recommendation.

I wouldn't say it's the most sad but another moment is in Starcraft 1 when

Kerrigan is left to die and all you can do is watch her die whilst you escape screaming at Mengsk :'(

I think for me, the saddest and most epic death was that of (spoiler for 20+ year old game FTW) Galuf in FFV. I don't think any other death in the FF series tugged at my heartstrings more - no, not even Aeris's death. Something about a grandfather giving his life for his granddaughter just strikes me as a whole lot more emotionally weighty than some Mary Sue asshole with a long sword backstabbing a girl out of nowhere. Not to mention, it seems to be one of the only deaths in the series where the other characters actually try to use Phoenix Downs and cure spells to raise the fallen...to no avail, of course, but still, how many peoples thought "WTF CLOUD?! USE A PHOENIX DOWN!" when Aeris died? I know I did.

- Mia Fey's death from Phoenix Wright, which is my main fuel for my hatred towards Redd White. It's especially heartbreaking when you see Maya crying next to her body

WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE? YOU WERE SO AWESOME!

- Zero's from the Megaman X, especially with the updated music and voice acting from Maverick Hunter X

- Almost every death from the Metal Gear Solid series, but the Boss's, Big Boss's and E.E.'s especially bring out the waterworks

Out of all the video games I've played with deaths in them that made others cry, none of them made me cry. Yeah, I felt sad, but that's about it. But, then I played The Last of Us. Some scenes in that game really got to me.

It wasn't Tess' or Sarah's deaths, but the deaths of Sam and Henry. I never expected Sam to get infected. I only thought the 4 would go their separate ways and that would be that. But no, Naughty Dog had to kill them off. When Henry put Sam out of his misery, I did not expect him to pull the trigger on himself. I actually didn't know what to expect. I was really surprised when that happened and because of that, manly tears were shed that day.

Lol if you didn't want spoilers you shouldn't have clicked a link to saddest deaths :P

Well, we do have things called spoiler tags. They've been used in pretty much all spoiler-related threads in the past. I was expecting this thread to be the same.

I agree with the first one. It was so satisfying to be able to get at Redd White in court.
