That's what it is. The curve between the muzzle and the head is too sharp. It shouldn't really be concave like that. My general rule of thumb is, if you go past vertical, it won't look right.

Tried fixing it as best I could.

I'm wondering, if you switched to a different program, if it would yield better results.

I used Inkscape for a while, but I still had to use GIMP to color my stuff. It took too long, so I switched back to GIMP.

It never worked for me. I don't use closed shpaes and the bucket fill tool doesn't work right.

Well, that's the thing: you have to use closed shapes. You can get around it, depending on how you layer it. I layer by each individual part. For me, it's tail, background legs, foreground legs, torso and neck, wings (if pegasus), head, face, mane, and cutie mark on top of it all.

That, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist. That's why I spend hours doing it. The effort of being meticulous pays off.

I just used the spline, filled it, then took a screenshot and put it on paint to remove stuff I couldn't remove with Inkscape.

I go from scratch. I'll take a base, draw it out, add all the accessories and details that makes it unique, and then add a background or something. And with how meticulous I am, that's why it takes me 2 hours just to turn out a single, show-style pony.

It's why I'll never open a request or commission shop. It's extremely time-consuming as it is. I'd get flooded with requests, and never have time to catch up. I'll do one here or there as a favor, if someone asked.

*wants to give suggestions to Wind, but posts these tutorials instead*

Uh, Filly, he doesn't use Inkscape.

It's just like any other form of art: you have to dedicate time to it.

The piece I did earlier, should have only taken 4 hours, but I had to replace my mouse, and this one is a lot more touchy.

Same here, but most of my trouble comes from the fact that my computer is shared. Working non-stop, I should be done with something like the Apple Bloom picture within an hour or so. However, I have to take breaks every so often. The ones that take longer are the ones I have to create new colors for or have detailed backgrounds. You could see it in the robot picture. I took a few shortcuts to get it out as quickly as possible.

I might consider anthro pony commissions once I get the time, however.

I'm used to working with hex values, that's easy. I always use a reference picture to pull colors off of.

Oh, sorry... :P

Yeah, that's why I also won't open a commission workshop something. The number of requests and time to make each one will just conflict with school and RL time. :c (And maybe some internet distraction. :P)

My point exactly. I'll still do requests, but if someone asks me. I don't ask to do requests.

Klinkhammer... that's a fun last name to say.

I don't do request shops either, and I'm finding out how much I should charge for anthro pony commissions (when I do get the time to do them) to avoid getting flooded (I'm thinking between 10-20 dA points).

I have three requests pending right now. Two of them are drawn, but not yet colored. One I haven't even started yet.

I won't even mention it on my dA. Informal favors are what I'll do. I don't want to draw attention to myself.

Otherwise, if I want to do a request in a pretty tight schedule, I'll just grab a random vector I've drawn before, delete the mane and tail, redraw missing parts, draw the mane and tail of the OC, recolor the base with the OC's colors, throw the mane and tail into their respective positions, and then I can call it a day.

Klinkhammer?

Pens made a trade today. Phil Samuelson (Ulf's kid) to Phoenix for Rob Klinkhammer and a conditional pick in 2016

I've done that a couple of times already, except I did it on characters that had the same mane and tail as my OC. Full-on recolors. ;)
