As a New Yorker, I am predictably not happy with this decision. :okiedokielokie:

 

New York, Denver, and Minnesota all should have been considered before going back to a city that has already hosted a Classic.

Yeah, I've heard that one, too, and it doesn't sound like a bad idea, except for two things; both teams have already hosted the Classic, and what appeal would the game have to people outside of Pennsylvania (except for die-hard hockey fans)?

 

If they were to hold one in New York, it would most likely be the Rangers against the Kings or an Original Six team. Definitely no one outside of our area wants to see them face the Islanders or the Devils.

Think about it: Crosby-Giroux. You have some of the best in the NHL lining up against each other. The Battle of Pennsylvania is as big as The Freeway Showdown, Original Six matchups. It would be HUGE.

There's more reason to do a Rangers-Kings Classic at Yankee Stadium than there is not to do one.

 

  • Yankee Stadium has proven itself worthy - it already hosted a Stadium Series game.
  • No Western team has participated in a Winter Classic yet.
  • Rematch of last year's Stanley Cup Final.
  • Two largest media markets in the United States on both coasts.
  • Jonathan Quick, Henrik Lundqvist. Enough said.

I remember hearing about that. They could do it again, except at Yankee Stadium.

 

I'm sure @Raritas and would be interested to know or probably know already that the same place once hosted an F1 race.
