Okay so both hard drives and my SSD have been totally wiped. And now I'm fresh installing Windows 8 Pro. Vanilla version. I mean the version of Win 8 that came out on the release day.

Or maybe before that. Because I did have the test build well before it was officially released.

But my gaming desktop has been on the fritz a while. When I put it to sleep, when I turned it back on it never asked for a password screen. And one of my hard drives would quit working right. What finally made me crack and wipe everything and start fresh was when my desktop was a solid black screen. I could only run programs from task manager and command prompt. It didn't do this before the last Windows update. But hey. I could use a fresh start on this thing anyway.

Hey when all else fails or you just don't wanna go through the hassle of diagnostics, a clean install will take care of your all OS's software related problems.

And Windows 8 seriously reinstalled in all of 5 minutes. I walked away to make my previous post and it already rebooted 3 times and went back to the original screen (I have UEFI set up to check for a boot disk before checking the hard drives for an OS) where you click the "Install" button

It took me longer to retrieve my product keys than it did to reinstall Windows. :wau: When I finished my build, I remember it taking a least a half hour....

(Only 737091 to go!)

The latest Windows OS I have regularly used was XP. Linux is a lot easier to use. Now I only have to worry about things like Linux driver problems and compiling software from source. :okiedokielokie:  I suppose each OS has its own set of problems.

I would much rather use Linux, believe me. But there aren't as many games on Ubuntu lol

Anyway guys my desktop is already up and running again. That was a lot faster and easier than I thought it would be. Now to redownload Windows 8.1

But I'll save that for tomorrow.

I downloaded it originally and burned it to a DVD in case I ever needed to do a clean install....

Oh and the very first thing I did when I got into my desktop?

OpenOffice is great. But it's not MS Office. And I needed MS Office to get through college.
