As much as I don't like my AMD processor at the moment, I'd love to see them make a top of the line product again, like K7. I'd like to see them really give Intel a run for their money again. Because without AMD around, Intel could essentially charge whatever it wanted for its CPUs (and it kind of does that because it doesn't matter who you are; the Core architecture is better than Bulldozer, Piledriver, Vishera, and basically every architecture AMD has to offer right now...it just is, and Intel knows this). 

 

I read an interesting article outlining the history of the AMD-Intel rivalry today. And in that article, it said that you can feel it in the entire company....they're comfortable being second best. And that's really sad. I'd like to see someone kick them in the pants and say, "No. We deserve to be the best." Hopefully that's what Lisa Su is doing over there. I was led to the article after I checked AMD's stock price today. It was around $2.50 a share. I looked at a complete history. It's quite sad. In May 2000 (around the time K7 and K8 were around), AMD shares were going for over $90 a pop. I mean, isn't it time that AMD stopped disappointing both investors and consumers? 

 

So I'd really like to see Zen take off. I'd like to see Zen kick Intel in the face. Intel needs a major competitor. Competition drives innovation. If AMD goes away and nobody rises to take their place, innovation will continue for a time. Then it will stagnate. I don't want to see that. 

 

I just hope that this time, they execute better than they have in the past. I love underdog stories, and I'd like to see Zen leaving the engineers at Intel scratching their heads like K7

 

At least they're making good high end graphics cards

Yeah, despite AMD lowering their top-tier R9 290 and 290X GPUs to the point of being as low as a GTX 760/960, they are lagging down by like massive percentages from Nvidia in the GPU market share world in the later years.
