So, since some of you are vector artists, and may use Inkscape, how do you import bases into it? Every time I import a file, it comes out as just a big image that I can only edit as a whole, not each line/shape individually.

I actually just trace over the base by hand.

Anybody ever been inspired by something, but were afraid they would end up copying said thing that inspired them?

Maybe Base isn't really that keen in vectoring these days.

 

Well, I suppose the base you've got is just a good ol' bitmap raster image. You can't really do anything to edit the "lines" individually out of the box since it's, well, just a bitmap image. You'll have to either download the SVG file of the base, which is a format for vector graphic images, or the fun part: trace over the bitmap image, what most vector artists do.

 

Here's a pretty good starting point for the basics in the glorious vectoring master race.
