Don't judge a book by its cover. You will truly understand it if you're just willing to read it.

Guys! Look at my haul!

I wanna play Shadow of the Colossus and Okami but they didn't have them.

But with my acquisition of OoT I have a reason to play my Nintendo 64 again! :squee:

Oh man, Okami is incredible! I loved that game :P Have fun with them, I really need to break out my PS2 for some nostalgia

I can't believe that PlayStation still worked when I put it back together. Looks a lot better than it did before. Nice and clean. And with a voided warranty, too. :P

Nothing.

It was very dusty on the outside. The fan was also extremely dusty. It's the fat model. So who knows how old this thing is? Maybe around 12 or 13 years old. And it's never been opened. I know because the warranty seal was intact. Was.

It looked really clean for its age considering it has a semi-active cooling system. I thought there'd be a lot more dust in it than there was. I still wanted to deep clean it because of all the dust on the outside. It cleaned up very nicely.

I also took it apart to get my mind off the death of my great-grandmother this morning and it worked. It allowed me to work with something while I came to terms with what'd happened. I'm going to be okay.

Well to keep my mind occupied, I kinda did this.

Because the PC builder mindset says, "Why not?"

It was really dusty on the outside so I wanted to give it a deep cleaning. Turns out the inside was very clean.

suppose it was already out of warranty before you opened and cleaned it, right? :fiery:

Don't know of many, if any, warranties that go 10+ years.

The dirtiest part was the bottom of the shell. The laser lens was covered in dust too.

Sold mine back when I was building my first PC. I've been out of the PSP market for quite some time.

Okay so I just learned why so many of the original PS3 models were frying.

I remember everyone freaking out saying not to put a DVD in a PS3 because those mess them up. People were saying that because the PS2 used a DVD-ROM while the PS3 games are formatted on Blu-Ray and it was people who played PS2 games on their PS3s that were getting the yellow light of death.

But I looked into this and it's partially true. It has nothing to do with the Blu-Ray drive and everything to do with cooling solutions.

The PS3 Fat models had a fan right over the cell processors and those were actively cooled. The original PlayStation 3s however also had an Emotion Engine + Graphics Synthesizer, which are the brains and guts of a PS2. On a PS2 Fat, the EE+GS units are semi-actively cooled. On the slim models, the fan is closer to the heat spreader and PS2 slims always exhaust much hotter air than the fat models do. The back of my PS2 Fat was exhausting cool air the entire time. Now on a PS3 Fat, the EE+GS unit is completely passively cooled. It's a heatsink with a thermal pad. It's exactly what the PS2 Fat was using, but there was at least fresh air going over the heatsink the entire time. This is absent in the PS3 Fat.

So when people were playing their PS2 games on their new PS3 Fats, they were cooking their Emotion Engines, and they would get the YLOD.

I didn't realize this up until a few minutes ago. :)

That explains why Sony didn't bother putting the PS2's guts in newer models. I suppose they don't want to spend extra on a better cooling solution for the PS2's components anyway, not to mention the slimmer profile of the later PS3s adding that to the equation.
