So I'm thinking if I build a PC for my girlfriend, it's definitely going to have to be a budget build. So instead of going for a Pentium or Celeron processor, I'm thinking about doing Sandy or Ivy Bridge. Core i5's can be had for $50-60 and Core i7's go for a little over $100. I've even found a pre built Lenovo system with an i7 2600 (not K), 8 GB RAM, and a 500 gig hard drive for $160. That's five of the parts I need. With that said though, I might find a way to get in l it into a different case if I got something like it. Plus it comes with Win 7 Pro. I've found a GTX 960 used for $160 although I might see about an RX 470 if the budget allows for it when the time comes. It might need a bigger PSU and that's it.

I'd go for a locked processor since she's likely not going to be into anything over the top like overclocking. Really, she will want something that just works. I could piece something like that together. :)

Any one have an opinion on going with Sandy/Ivy Bridge over a current Celeron/Pentium? I feel like the Core processors would offer better performance for the money

Email. Web surfing. Some gaming. She's ruined my GTA Online character.

Gaming would be the most she'd do on it.

I'd like to build one for her. She's using an AIO running an AMD A4 chip with R5 graphics. Obviously, it wasn't made for gaming, but it stutters so much just running Windows. Firefox and Chrome are slow to respond sometimes.

And I hate to think she paid $700 for this thing.

Can't fault her for not knowing, but it pisses me off you could pay so much and get so little
