Hello all!

So I'm working on an animation called "Caring for your new pony" and I would like to find some talented individuals to help make it a reality.

Want to read the script? View it here;

https://www.dropbox.com/s/7csa603j7lsgt5u/Caring%20for%20your%20new%20pony.rtf

Whether you're a graphic artist, vector artist, background artist, animator, composer, voice actor or all of the above, I want to meet you!

In a nutshell, "Caring for your new pony" is a parody instructional video teaching viewers how to properly take care of their new pony. It's a comedy piece mainly focused on a typical American guy and Apple Bloom, his mail order pony.

I have rounded up a selection of artists to record the voices for the piece and I have drawn out character designs and a storyboard to help give an approximation of the final piece.

You can see the storyboard here;

D'aww

So what do I need? Well the sad truth is that I've never actually animated anything. I'm a writer, concept artist and storyboard artist so I'm perfectly happy providing oodles of sketches and giving aid and direction to anyone who needs it but when it comes down to producing the animation I fear my lack of experience may well cause the animation to suffer a lack of quality.

Her new owner might be a little too affectionate

If there is anyone out there who would be interested in taking the role of animator you would be welcomed with open arms. I could also use someone to help design a logo for the piece and the title screen for the animation, as well as a credits screen with links to contributor's websites. I would love for some vector artists to design illustrations to be used in the video (how to bathe your pony, how to feed your pony etc.) or even to digitize my sketches to be used for promotional art on my website and on any other available sites.

I also need a male voice actor to play the part of the "Guy" in the script, you can view the audition post here;

http://voiceacting.proboards.com/thread/25861/pony-animation-happy-idiot-male

There is a view to turn this into a series, based on the ponies' experiences with their new human owners but baby steps for now, if we create a quality product then we can see about possible sequels.

Concepts for the various owners

So, no matter what you do we might just have a place for you on the team, I only ask that you're passionate about taking part. This project will need dedicated individuals that can take the time to see it through to its conclusion. All work will be unpaid as this is a not-for-profit animation since we're working with Hasbro's characters but everyone involved will receive credit for their work.

If you're interested in joining, post below or email me at dilarus(at) hotmail.co.uk with the subject title "Animation". Please include an example of your work eg. images, demo reels, links to finished projects.

I hope to hear from you soon, it's been great fun working on this project thus far and I hope to make it fun for all of you to contribute to.

Ehh, why not?  I'll go ahead and jump in for a potential animator.  I am working at the moment, but my contract ends in less than a month and I'll be taking a bit of time off then.

Here's a couple 1 minute shorts I've done:

https://vimeo.com/46931176 - Dreamworld, my final 2D project for college

https://vimeo.com/51653348 - Escalation, another short I did just for fun last year.

I just finished looking through the storyboards and it looks great.  Just curious, did you want this to emulate the look of the show closely, or do you want to maintain the stylization that you've done?  I should be good either way.

Hi there,

You have some skills with fbf I see. Did you use flash? I will say that the colours are rather gaudy and the punch sound effect was so loud it was jarring but these issues can be addressed.

And yeah I don't want to just emulate the show in terms of artistic direction, I feel it doesn't help you to stand out amongst the crowd. As you can see I've adapted the ponys' designs and have added chunky eyebrows and I'd like to leave them in. My only issue would be finding out how to colour them without them blending in to the hair.

Do you have any experience drawing ponies? It's taken me months of practice and I'm still a bit off with their legs so it's even more imperative that the animator be able to pull them off correctly.

I used Toon Boom Studio.  It's the software we used primarily in college; we did learn Flash, though we immediately learned how to use Toon Boom for Flash style animation and it turned out to be vastly more user-friendly.  As such, I haven't touched Flash in a long time.  And I also own a licensed copy of Toon Boom Studio 6.

As for drawing ponies, yes.  I've done plenty of my own, as well as lots of commissions.  Here's some more recent examples:

Wow these are superb, I haven't tried toon boom yet but ANYthing would be more user-friendly than flash. Can't count the amount of times it's crashed on me.

BTW what program did you use to colour those pics? Toon boom again?

Here's a link to my dropbox for this project, it contains all media pertaining to "caring for your new pony" and its possible sequels.

I suggest you check out some of the recorded dialogue under "Amplified" for examples of the announcer's lines. The guy who auditioned was simply stellar, I'm still auditioning for the "guy" character and have actresses lined up for Apple Bloom and Applejack, although they have yet to record their lines.

Thank you.  And yep, I use Toon Boom to colour my stuff (at least for colouring characters; I'll use GIMP or Photoshop when doing certain backgrounds).

I'll be taking a look through the stuff on dropbox and, once I wrap up a couple commissions on my queue, I'll make time to do a test animation or two based on the storyboards.

Sounds great man, I'd be happy to help out with colouring or inbetweening etc. I don't expect you to do all the work solo, this will very much be a group effort.

I also have a background artist researching 50s style American interiors to give the setting a quaint, homely feel so you needn't worry too much about the backgrounds, they'll be solid.

Hi! I'm a film, video game and animation composer and I'm interested in doing the score for you! Have a listen to my music (links below - Soundcloud has the best quality) and see if I`m the right person for the project . If so, great! The best way to contact me is this e-mail address: finnmertinskirkwood@gmail.com. If not, I hope your project goes fantastic.

Cheers,

Hi there, just listened to your music on newgrounds and I'm very impressed, we'd love to have you on board. Think you could make a track for the caring animation in the style of a 1950s instructional video?

The piece is done in a mock infomercial style so needs a happy little tune to go along with the announcer's iconic voice. The series will then go on to require tension, pathos, joy and anger etc so you can really go wild down the line.

Are you able to provide sound effects etc also? I know this falls into the sound design category more than composing but its something we'll have to address at some point.

Sam
