gonna cut to the chase here. do you think you could draw human Viscra in the style of an Advance Wars 2 character portrait? i'm pretty sure you're familiar with how they look like.

the design should mostly stay, but i think having her looks a bit more militarized would work well with the concept; i'm thinking stuff like leather gloves (i'm sure they're supposed to cover the whole hand out in the field?) and military shorts would work well. she'd like wearing that kind of clothing, too.

 

EDIT: oh derp, i forgot to mention the pose, didn't i. i think Viscra crossing her arms would work well in this context.

Well to be honest your OC seems overdesigned, I couldn't really get into this sketch with all of the accessories and clashing colours, you may want to consider choosing a coherent colour scheme. The name, colours and clothes also don't seem to mesh, I know it's not a rule but pony names usually are linked to their special talent no?

Your request was a breath of fresh air, I really enjoyed working with Viscra in human form. I hope this will suffice, ideally i would like to have coloured it but that would ramp it up from a 30 min sketch to a 2 hour one and I'm shattered lol.

Hello people!

 

So I'm going on a temporary hiatus to work on new styles, I'm going to start taking commissions and it just struck me that I don't really have a defined "style". I tend to flitter between sketch, watercolour, flat colored, cartoon style, cross-hatched and monochrome etc and can't decide on pony, human or anthro.

 

Essentially my work is inconsistent (in my eyes) if you guys like it then let me know, otherwise I'll have to try to narrow some things down because I can foresee me trying something entirely different to what my customers had in mind and them being disappointed.

 

Don't worry your pretty heads though, I'll still be taking requests whenever I get around to commissions although they will be more "experimental" to give me room to try new things. Are you ponies or guinea pigs? Hmm...

 

Also, what's your views on pricing? I thought about having a "pay what you think it's worth" scheme so I'll be drawing for donations essentially. Thing is I'm a perfectionist and think everything I make is crap (no, really, all I see are the mistakes) so it's very difficult for me to put a price on any of my work because I look at it and think "well, I wouldn't pay for this!". I'm also aware that this makes me sound like any other artist you'd care to name so feel free to ignore my self-deprication.

 

Anyways, I'd like some input and some volunteers for my experiments. For those whose requests I haven't gotten around to, I'm very sorry. If you want to be my guinea pigs then I can repurpose your requests.

Okay (I'm so damn tired) I've just finished a late-night livestream and I have a few gems to show y'all.

 

Firstly, I Derp'd Blue Arctic's OC because she was kind enough to sit through it all;

 

Next we have some swing-inspired ponies

I'd like to have coloured this one but that would have taken quite some time.

And next a rather nice pose for a pin-up in a tophat

You see, I have this youube account that's rather bleak at the mo and I don't see e point in making speedpaintings when livestreaming provides a video anyway. All that would be needed would be to chop up the footage, speed it up and add music etc. the sad hing is the footage gets deleted in 30 days with the account I have

I apologise for posting anything earlier, as I was out for the day and wasn't able to on my phone, despite having seen it already though.

Makes me wonder why on earth I've never got the idea to do this myself ever before really. I think I'm going to have to look into Noire style a a lot more as the only real experience I have with it is LA Noire, which I really should finish playing as I enjoyed it a lot.

 

You did a really good job with it Dilarus, as I feel it captures the character perfectly and that's considering that I "technically" didn't know about the request.

Well that's very kind of you to say, I feel like noire has a certain feel to it that a lot of people don't grasp. It's dark and hard to make out, it's harsh and gritty and moody. Since it was mentioned before, L.A.Noire was a huge letdown for me visually as it was too well-lit and plain, a filter or two wouldn't have gone amiss for that game but alas. On the other hand, some great examples have popped up in popular culture recently, there's Max Payne 1 and 2 (so much love for 2) and Sin City, that was a gorgeous movie.

 

I'm currently learning about blending and layer masks with photoshop (yeah, the stuff I've made so far was created without them) so with any luck I can make my stuff look ten times better. EDIT; can't believe I missed a chance to say 20% cooler there
