Ooo, fighting styles.

Standoff usually fights with a long knife, and his strategy is all about grabs. If he gets a good hold on you, you likely have seconds to live, either by the knife or just getting throttled.

Hello, everyone. I'm back. Are we talking about fighting styles?

I think so good topic anyway. Sadly i'm not sure that i can even get on it. Cause if your fighting Shadow you either caught him napping (Kinda hard to do.) or he is already ripping your throat out, and Gear dose not really fight. She never had to, Ironheart kills ponies for her or she uses her metal manipulation magic..... Hmmm i suppose that could be compared to swordplay so i guess she has some skill in that.

Interesting. I'll weigh in.

Poppy's probably just going to keep hitting any Unicorn/Pegasus that's in her way until it stops breathing.

Kinetic doesn't have a fighting style. He just uses magic if he has to fight, which is rarely, since he refuses to go into the field.

Awesome, fighting styles!

Star Rain is rather wit and magic reliant, but I classify her as a rogue/mage for a reason. She's very much fond of rickashays, making her attacks seem like they came from nowhere, and surprising opponents by using a spell over and over again and take them by surprise with another spell. She later on gets a dagger and she can just assassinate somepony without emitting a lot of light.

North Shine prefers sneak attacks over everything else. Her wing blades and shuriken combined with her flying skills just serve to make her even more deadly than she is. She likes to dodge a lot though and her attacks are quick and decisive almost everytime. And like the thief she is, she's good at disarming ponies and using their weapons against them.

Ginseng would rather run away before things get ugly. However, he knows his pony anatomy very well and knows all the pressure points to strike with a retractable rod he fights with. He also relies a lot on healing magic. Other than that, he doesn't have a set fighting style, as he prefers to vary his attacks. This alone makes him more unpredictable than Star and North.

I give my second approval of Standoff, thank you for working with me.

------------------

I admit the talking of fighting styles and combat kinda makes me nervous in a game without hard game/rule/combat mechanics.

One thing I will say is I won't allow instant kill or incaptivation with just a touch, nor you hit a certain pressure point so the limb goes all wobbly and the pony can't use it.

Maybe for some non-combatant NPCs it can be allowed but not for more skilled characters of the player or a NPC.

----------

When it comes to things like combat I really wish I would have chosen something like D&D or Pathfinder so as to have more than just telling players not to godmode in battle.

Steel is a swordpony before all else. (It's half of my cutie mark!)

Mindset:

Being upfront and forthright in everything he does, Steel prefers semi-official and formalized forms of combat such as dueling or gladiatorial bouts. That being said, Steel is no stranger to pragmatic self-defense, as he is a private security contractor by trade. What Steel lacks in terms of approach is stealth. He's not a lumbering hulk, but he's so used to being a visible element even before a fight that anything so subversive is antithetical to habit.

Weaponry:

Steel's preferred weapons are his pegasus wing-sabers, custom forged for him by a renowned pegasus smithy in the Artisan District, he named them "Donkey Jote" after the hero of old who persisted to follow his knightly ways when the world told him he was wrong for doing so. Although he is equally skilled in unarmed combat, and can wield similar weapons with a passing degree of skill; such as staves, axes, and spears. Weapons more distanced from that pose a difficulty for him though; such as whips, flails, and chains. Most of all, any sort of ranged weaponry. Bows, rifles, it doesn't matter; Steel couldn't hit an Ursa Major if it was sitting on him!

Style:

As far as raw style goes, Steel prefers to size up an opponent and act accordingly. His move set can be divided into two rough categories. Short and simplistic cuts, stabs, punches, and kicks; or more complex twirling slashes, flying rushes, and acrobatic assaults. Despite being a pegasus, he prefers to remain grounded unless fighting a likewise airborne foe. (Perhaps a result of growing up in Canterlot and Manehatten.) Rather, he focuses on using his wings to fight and assist in agility.

Weaknesses:

Steel is far from invincible though. Stronger opponents such as earth ponies or diamond dogs have a definite advantage in raw physical might against Steel's more technique oriented mantra. Moreover, while he is usually quick and agile enough to close on foes at range, anypony with sufficient firepower and a decent angle of attack will have him pinned. Lastly, enemies that have broken rhythm or otherwise don't have a recognizable stance or pattern are difficult for Steel to defeat. It only compounds his fear of the Cult of Laughter, as their fighters are so deranged and use such bizarre weaponry, that Steel it's near impossible for Steel to "read" them and come up with an appropriate tactic.

When it comes to things like combat I really wish I would have chosen something like D&D or Pathfinder so as to have more than just telling players not to godmode in battle.

Now, now... What fun would it be if you could godmode?

And I'd like to note that Ty Lee is way better at being Ty Lee than Cascade is at being Ty Lee. I don't think it would be any fun - or fair at all - if it were as simple as turning players into what is effectively a pile of limp noodles, or perhaps jello, with two or three jabs. So, I'm not going to play it that way. Don't worry.

I tried this dice-roll system once, but that took a heckuva lot of micro-managing. I think we're just going to have to trust the players to be fair, and tell them off if they're not.

So hey. I was browsing Yoorick's DeviantArt, and I saw a very good question that may be highly relevant.

So... What do you guys think happened to the physical Elements of Harmony? You know, the necklaces and the big crown thingie?

So... What do you guys think happened to the physical Elements of Harmony? You know, the necklaces and the big crown thingie?

Unless my storytellers are in disagreement or have a better idea, my plan was that they were taken and hidden away by the Guardians of Harmony. Perhaps early on before the Houses and the fallen Bearers became strong, after the accident in which the Bearer of the Element of Laughter was seemingly killed.

Also, before I forget, I just like to remind everyone if you're typing something up make sure to save every 5 minutes so you don't lose everything you type.

There's no Wi-Fi at the cottage we're staying so I probably won't be on and I definitely won't be able to make my intro post for Earthborn. Sorry for any disruption I've caused.

Quite unfortunate. Well I'm not starting this RP without you Archi. I guess we'll have to wait. Hopefully you can get your intro done quickly when you come back. This gives us another week to be ready I guess. Ah well, have fun on your holiday!

@@EquestrianScholar,

@,

I suppose the Elements could be with the Guardians... (though that does change things...) My original thought was they stayed in Canterlot locked up in that box. Another idea I had was each Bearer kept their respective element. Though I'm not how this possible that would be.

As for fighting styles Eternity mainly sticks to magic. Using his staff to assist him in casting spells and such. In melee he would create a sword and shield to fight with. He has been train to fight in melee. But he doesn't usually prefer to fight that much.

Dorado though, he uses a variety of ranged weaponry, though he can't carry it all. He usually just carries with him a short crossbow strapped to his front leg. On Jobs he may use larger crossbows, even the kind that require tools to load it since they are much more powerful. He also does carry a knife with him and may strap it to his tail. Another thing he can use is his sling to sling rocks if he doesn't have other options. Slinging can actually be very powerful if skillfully trained in it. Many ancient people able to sling a rock with great accuracy. Though it probably won't kill you unless hit in the head, but it will break some bones. He cannot us an arequebus though, since there isn't one designed for non-unicorns (no trigger system for hooves).

When're we going to start this party?

Well now that Archi is going on holiday and we can't start without him, we are going to have to wait another week or so which is unfortunate.

I don't like some of these though. Mainly I don't like all the guns in Whitegold. This isn't the 17th century, they don't have Muskets. They have Arquebuses, this is like early 16th century and the military back then didn't really use many of them. And those flying saucers too, Definitely not using that idea. Some of the Everfree stuff wasn't that bad though except for the mirror pool thing. I wonder though... should non-unicorns be able to use an arquebus?

I believe I have evidence to support the claim that the Mane Six each still are in possession of their respective Element of Harmony. Yorrick recently posted on FIMFiction a basic outline of the history of House Moon and Star, including the events preluding when the Mane Six went their separate ways. In this post it says that this occurred immediately after Twilight's attempted accession which killed Pinkie Pie and scarred Rainbow Dash. At the time each of the six friend bore each bore their Elements of Harmony, and since after the encounter they all went their separate ways it stands to reason that each of them took their Element with them upon their departure. Pinkie may be the only exception to this since she did die after all and Twilight may now be in possession of the Element of Laughter (which would be quite a boon for her more recent experiments) but isn't likely. The more probable explanation would be that it remained on her corpse when it was claimed by the cult.

When i annoy everybody by running my mouth remember img-1379355-5-xtWXQl1.png AnonBrony asked. (hehehe)

House Moon & Star:

Moon & Star Priest's

I think this idea makes sense, but if i may suggest that we separate them into 2 different guilds? Like "Priest's of the sun" and "Priest's of the Moon".

Astral Projectors

I don't know why it has to be from a discordian cult, (I mean come on dose this really sound like a discord thing... Or am i just missing it?) but i see no problem with these.

Warrior Monks of the Sacred Order

Again i don't understand why they have to be experiments, but  the idea of a sociopathic order devoted to Twilight sounds interesting.

Ithildin Giants

I'm going to disregard my opinion on the grounds that i don't like them at all. The following is optional as its just my opinion. < Honestly it took my character 20 years to develop less intelligent soulless constructs, and she actually had a soul powered construct to compare them too. Nevermind that making them is her special talent. So what i'm saying is that these inventions make my character, her ability, and the suffering that her ability caused for her, now seem kinda insignificant and unimportant :'(.   (If you read this thank you for listing to me rant.)>

Crystal Berserker

Mentality wise this makes sense, but i think that we should leave the Crystal Empire out of this setting. (Excluding OC's)

Shape-Shifter

While i see no problem with these but i figure that their numbers would be low. Not because their very powerful but simply because the changelings hide their secrets well.

Amalthean Stampede

This is a spell not a unit so its a bit out of place on a unit roster.

Elemental Mancers

Normally i would not protest these but i believe that we already have enough powerful ponies in this house. For example Eternity, Star Rain, Astrolabe, Kinetic Energy, & Snowy Fields.

Hovering Glocke

No. Enough said.

Spike the Dragon

Well duh Spike is in Moon & Star and this is ED so it makes sense that he's badass.

House Whitegold:

Zebra Janissaries

While i like the concept i figured that the Arquebus hadn't been developed for Non-Unicorns yet? Might i suggest that they wield some kind of javelins with deadly accuracy instead?

Griffin Marauders

Not only do i not like the concept but Non-Unicorn guns again so its not quite plausible. I figured that the griffins would just be a section of the Wing Dragoons.(Which i will address also.)

Whitegold Mage's

I figure that this unit may be a good idea as Whitegold is mostly smoke and mirrors even in the field of battle. Also they kinda needed a magical support unit.

Fancypants's Mortars

I agree with the concept.... If not the result. Giving Whitegold some precise artillery may just be a decent idea. (Later in the game however, not right off the start.) But a 3 barreled mortar is stupid, ridiculous, and unwieldy. Seriously how about a 1 barreled mortar with increased loading time (It is a mortar after all), 1 & 1/2 the range of a Bucker Cannon, and slightly increased accuracy.

Wing Dragoons

(sigh) again with the Non-Unicorn guns i'm not even going to say it again. That said the unit itself is actually a decent idea, but how about we arm them with a crossbow or something. (I guess you could keep the bayonet but you should probably go with something else.)

Saddle Arabian Mujahideens

Gesundheit hehehe, aside from the name that i probably cant pronounce i like these and have no problem with them.

Whitegold Tachanka

..................... I don't have to repeat myself about the guns do i? Cause i really don't feel like going over this too many times.

Whitegold Zeppelin

No offense to the guy that came up with and drew this (He has some good ideas.) but i don't think this is a good idea.

House Everfree:

Everfree Fairy

Sure this makes sense, i mean who dose not want some cute fairy ponies.

Mindbreakers

You mean the Staremasters weren't those already a fact? Anyways no problems but i'm suggesting that our characters have some resistance to them or something.

Thorner

Well its a little much, but if you remove the distance attacks and make them jump out of the ground to attack, then they would make great (and rather demoralizing) surprise attackers.

Manticore

Saw this coming and no complaints.

Forest Druid's

Makes perfect sense (i already figured they where there) now Everfree has healers, shamans, and druids. Good they kinda needed some magical support.

Battle Ostrich

....Am i the only person that thinks this is a little ridiculous.

Death Blossom

Ranged attacking flower ponies heh i suppose that it makes sense. After all some mares just really want to be the flower girl, but i think that these ones took it a little far..... And don't even expect me to try to sniff the flower with a head.

Cockatrice

Its to be expected but may i suggest that these be rare and hard to handle so their not overused?

Mirror Pot

Yah this isn't really a good idea. Hell this is more of a cult unit.

Everfree Berserker

Well i certainly wouldn't be surprised to see a few of these in some of the more depraved tribes, but i don't think that they'd be all that common or popular for that matter.

Everfree Oliphant

blink.png  Umm i'm not sure that there should be Oliphant's in Equestria at all. How about Elephant's with carriage mounts that can fit 4 ponies (plus the beastmaster) in them or Rhinoceros Riders?

Now that i'm done bothering everyone i'd like to say that i agree no man left behind. (Basically for all its worth, i agree that we should wait for Archi)

Hmmm... *bows* I thank you Master for this insight. This makes things much more interesting. But considering your link to his FIMfiction didn't work last time mind putting the link again? I certainly would like to see the timeline for my House. And I agree, I don't think we should really use any of these units, but I just wanted to know what everyones opinions were.

@@AnonBrony, Sure, here's the copy/pasted version.

- Twilight's reaction to the disappearance of the Princesses was that of disbelief, followed by deep sadness, which in the following weeks spiralled wildly into depression;

- after being called back to Canterlot, to meet her parents and brother, her depression takes a backseat to her newfound determination for finding the truth about the disappearance;

- one time after attending a meeting in the Caterlot Palace, she is approached by a mysterious unicorn mare who presents herself to Twi as Bright Eyes – a spokespony for a rather elusive organization called „The Moon and Star Society”.

- Twilight refuses the offer to join the society, feeling that something is not right about them;

- meanwhile, the political climate in Caterlot and in turn in whole Equestria has been becoming steadily more unstable and hostile, soon heated arguments started to arise between those who still believed in the divine rule of the Princesses and those who believed them to be a sham;

- Twilight attends a couple of political meetings, giving full support as the Element of Magic to her Parents and their political agenda of „Cautious Transformation”;

- in the meantime, Prince Shining Armor and Princess Cadence have been chosen by the Canterlot Council to be the de-facto rulers of Equestria until the crisis has been resolved;

- more and more horryfying information about the current state of Equestria is seeping through the walls of Canterlot, messengers report full-blown riots in southern part of the country and a rapid increase in citizen dissent against Canterlot authority thorough the land;

- amongst the chaos, centuries-old grudges and grievances come to light again – some of the unicorn nobles start preaching of unicorn superiority over the other pony races;

- once again, Twilight is approached by Bright Eyes and offered to join the „Moon and Star Society” – once again, she refuses;

- a political party going by the name of „White Horns” , led by ponies Jet Set and Upper Crust, is formed and starts gaining followers for their unicorn supremacy doctrine, Twilight acts openly antagonistic and even violent towards them, but her father warns her that they should be defeated in a debate that would expose their irrational goals, rather than a fight;

- meanwhile the rest of Equestria is being plagued by riots, uprisings and a crime wave of magnitude no pony has ever seen before;

- one of the mages at Canterlot University informs Twilight that he may have found a way to find what happened to the Princesses and instructs her to go to the Royal Castle Library and search the „Clover the Clever” wing for clues, but the only things she finds in there are three mysterious books: „The Divine Pony”, „A Shadow Cast by the Sun” and „On the Three Races”. After reading through all of them, Twilight finds herself appalled and disgusted by the ideologies and ideas they seem to promote, but at the same time she finds the books incredibly fascinating. Exiting the library, Twi meets her father who tells her to not trust anyone from the M&S Society, as that will spell doom on her and the entire Equestria;

- the day of the great debate between the „White Horns” and Twilight's parents' „Cautious Transformation” Movement ends in a tragedy, as a group of pegasi terrorists attacks the crowd and the politicians on the stand and kills both Twi's mom and dad before her very eyes; the terrorist are later caught without much trouble and sentenced to death by revenge-driven Prince Shining Armor;

- the „Bloody Debate” causes a domino effect in Canterlot and its neighbourhood, unicorn supremacists of „White Horn” gather more and more followers for their cause and soon – any pegasi found in Canterlot becomes a target of ridicule, mistreatment, bullying, prejudice, crime and outright persecution; soon the same misfortune begins to plague the earth ponies of Canterlot;

- in midst of the ongoing racial tensions, two great canterlotian organizations: „Equestrian Trade Union” and „The Society of Canterlot Nobles” leave Canterlot for Manehattan and there they set up their new base of operations; they're soon followed by at least one third of the members of the Canterlot University of Mages;

- Twilight, mentally broken by the loss of her parents seeks comfort in the arms of her older brother, who reassures her that everything will be allright, now that they have their new allies; moments after, Twilight notices a copy of „A Shadow Cast by the Sun” lying on one of her brother's bookshelves;

- at the very moment, Twilight is again approached by Bright Eyes and asked to join her brother in the ranks of the M&S Society; Twilight screams in anger at Shining and storms out of the castle;

- meanwhile, the disgusting propaganda of „White Horns” starts to take effect outside of Canterlot: pegasi are treated as mindless barbarians they always really were, and earth ponies being the natural-born slaves are reminded of their rightful place among the dirt;

- the creation of the secret Unicorn Bureau of Integrity and Morality gives birth to the brutal indoctrination and persecution practices which will become far more common when the bureau eventually transforms itself into the dreaded Celestial Inquisition;

- Twilight lost in the chaos turns to the only ponies who can help her now in these dire times – her friends; she devises a plan to turn herself into an alicorn using a foribidden ritual mentioned in the book „The Divine Pony”; to succeed, she needs to merge with one physically strong specimen of earth ponies and one equally strong specimen of pegasi; in her mind the choices are obvious;

- under the cloak of the night, Twilight leads her friends into the Castle's ritual chambers with the elements and there she spells the whole plan out for them, all while nervously shivering and desperately holding back her tears; her friends are her only hope of restoring the order, but one of them says „No.”

- Applejack appaled at the mere thought of taking part in creating such an unholy monstrosity, and moreover – returning to the old status-quo of a divine creature governing the masses through the power of „the Benevolent Lie” turns her back on her friend and runs off never to be seen again;

- Twilight infuriated by such act of treachery curses AJ and promises her a payback, then coerces Pinkie to take the earth pony part of the ritual; Pinkie reluctantly agrees;

- the ritual starts, and Twilight starts to radiate enormous power, the whole spectacle is too frightening for Fluttershy to witness and soon she follows AJ's steps leading outside the castle and Canterlot proper; meanwhile Rarity stays with the rest and observes the whole ritual;

- at one point it seems as if the three ponies will actually merge and create actual alicorn, but a sudden burst of uncontrolled energy going through Twilight's horn severes the connection and blasts the three of them into the ground;

- the results are horryfying – Pinkie's dead and her body is horribly burned and maimed, Rainbow Dash survives, but the right side of her face and neck is all melted, she's quivering in pain; Twilight seems to not be affected at all; Rarity mortified by the sight of her friends horrifically scarred and dead manages to mutter only one sentence to Twilight: „You're a murderer.” before she runs off in terror.

- Twilight stands alone and broken – her beloved teacher has disappeared without a trace, her parents have been murdered and now her friends have abandoned her when she needed them the most; moments later, a voice from the dark reassures her that she is in fact, not alone – it's her brother, Shining Armor who lends a helping hoof in these troubled times;

- days later, Twilight attends the funeral of her dear friend Pinkie Pie and sees Rainbow Dash escorted to Cloudsdale, despite „White Horns” objecting to such action, saying that a pony like Rainbow Dash may prove a nuisance later;

- after the funeral, Twilight is again approached by Bright Eyes and offered to join the M&S Society; this time, after a long talk and many questions both answered and unanswered Twilight decides to join the society;

- in the following months, Twilight becomes the most important figure within the society, effectively becoming its leader; now fully versed in the teachings of the Society and its rituals, Twilight is ready to introduce the new order to Equestria – the one Celestial Sisters would deem worthy;

- soon, the „White Horns” political party gets disbanded and Jet Set and Upper Crust are soon relegated to governing the neighbouring lands, the Unicorn Bureau of Integrity and Morality is officially renamed the Celestial Inquisition; Bright Eyes – the spokespony for the Society, gets hanged by Twilight for her crimes against Equestria and teachings of Celestia and Luna; Twilight methodically, with the help of her new aquaintance and now the leader of the Inquisition – Trixie Lulamoon, eradicates any influence of the M&S Society in Canterlot and its neighbouring lands;

- Twilight introduces Trixie to the three books: „The Divine Pony”, „A Shadow Cast by the Sun” and „On the Three Races”, which will eventually lead the Grand Inquisitor to become obsessed with unicorn supremacy;

- in a dramatic fit of irony, she decides to rename the war-torn Equestria „The One Nation Under Moon and Star”. After the other factions start to secede from Equestria, the Canterlot-held lands will be known by separatists as „House Moon and Star”.

"One Nation Under Moon and Star"? Hehehehehahahah! I love it! This is very interesting It's neat to know how exactly Pinkie died and how Rainbow got her Scar. Though I suppose this means Eternity never saw it. None the less that shouldn't change much. It's also interesting to to know about these books that keep getting mentioned too. Can't wait to see more info on the other houses. Thank you for sharing this with us Master.

Even just Twilight's story tells us so much more about this universe than we already knew... I'm eager to see the info on the other houses. Any idea when they might be released?

While Yorick's expositions may not make much of a difference in the long run of our RP, they're very important to the Storytellers, who may have to flip up their style and plans a bit to adjust to the new canon. Like, according to this, Shining Armor's certainly really important and influential over his sister, even if he is just her puppet by the time this thing starts.

Whenever I think of that, I think of them singing Jiyuu Nu Tsubasa. You know, the second Attack on Titan opening? It fits them.
