Gaming Twilight needs help finding a PSP RPG

Can anyone recommend any good RPG's for the original PSP (ie not vita)?

Preferably not anime/manga in art style, and not fantasy.

Persona 3 Portable, I don't care what you say about no anime style, this game is a must own if you can't play the PS2 game(hell the first two Persona games are there too, get those too)

 

3rd Birthday is pretty good, though it's more shooter heavy than the other Parasite Eve games

 

Phantasy Star Portable - if you're a fan of Phantasy Star, this is a good one to get

 

There's also the Monster Hunter games

If you can get it, Parasite Eve. It was an original Playstation game, but there is a PSP port. You should definitely give this a try.

 

Knights in the Nightmare. Quite difficult.

Yggdra Union. Quite difficult.

 

This is just from going through my memory stick. Not sure how many of those count as fantasy or not ^^;

If you really cant find any, I highly reccommend the Patapon series.

I got Persona 3 FES for the PS2, I tried to like it. I found myself only liking the Highschool sim elements of the game the combat is a bit tedious for me.

You're really missing out on some great games by saying "no anime style" on top of "no fantasy"

 

You can get both Star Ocean 1 and 2 on PSP, but both have anime styles.

 

You can get Wild Arms XF which is wild west and sci-fi but has anime styles.

 

There's also Jeanne D'arc or Final Fantasy Tactics but both are fantasy-themed. (As well as anime for Jeanne D'arc)

 

I dunno if it's a preference or just not what you're looking for but games that meet both of those requirements are relatively hard to find anywhere as far as RPGs go.

I've not played my PSP in a while but I do remember Medieval: Resurrection being fairly fun to play, it had some hilarious dialogue as well. A game that I was looking up before as well which got some nice reviews was Gurumin, it wasn't very popular but those who did play it found it to be a ton of fun.

You're much better off with a PC for that kind of thing, because then you get all the great Sci-Fi RPGs. But really, with the "no fantasy" rule, your choices are still pretty slim.

 

Also, guys, Monster Hunter isn't an RPG. It's an action series. Still kicks all kinda of ass, though.

I definitely recommend Persona 3 Portable, as previous users have mentioned. The game is AMAZING, it has a beautiful storyline, and it's definitely my favorite JRPG. Another good choice I can recommend would definitely be any of the Disgaea series. Afternon of Darkness and Dark Hero Days were both released for the original PSP.

 

A choice if your console is modded would be any of the Super Robot Wars titles, though the most you'll find is a menu/units/skills translation for both SRW Z2 games. They're reminiscent of Disgaea and Fire Emblem, though with giant robots from popular anime.

 

Aaaaaaaand finally, Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone is rather nice as well.

 

Also, yeah, non-anime and non-fantasy RPGs are going to be a tough one. All of the above fall in that category, but are definitely all worth a play.
