SkyDream 315 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 (edited) Something that you fear that wouldn't necessarily have a classic psychiatric definition. For example, I greatly fear someone telling me to do something that I am already doing. Like, if I'm sitting down, someone would tell me to sit down, and then get angry at me because I can't (Won't!!!) sit down. It's only somewhat due to the fact that I can't perform an action which technically has already been performed, or rather, is already at what I believe would be its intended conclusion with no ability to engage the steps leading to said conclusion. It's due to the possibility that the person actually meant something that I cannot perceive, because they wouldn't be asking me to sit down without a good reason, and I am being obstinate to them in their eyes, but not obstinate in my own opinion. The scary part is, "what am I not seeing that he is?" ------ I also have a fear that everything that we see and perceive is absolutely nothing more than what it seems. As in, from our baseline perception, that's all there is. It's exactly as boring as it appears, with nothing intrinsically more interesting at a finer level of detail, or microscopic level, or quantum level, and whatnot. That muffin is just a muffin not because some higher intelligence needed there to be a muffin in exactly that place and time for me to eat it and get a stomach ache and have to go to the bathroom at a certain time of day and come out in time to catch an old friend to meet and discuss work and have a job offered to me and meet my wife there and have kids and a happy life. Nope, just a muffin. Edited October 23, 2013 by SkyDream

Treble Bolt 1,122 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 (edited) I feel fear everytime I drive over a bridge. I fear losing control of the truck and go careening over the side. However, when I bike or walk over a bridge, I don't feel that fear at all. I have no idea why I panic driving over a bridge....it's just weird Edited October 23, 2013 by Treble Bolt "In fire iron is born, by fire it is tamed"
Guest October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 Looking into mirrors or turning my back to them, mainly at night. But I don't like my back to a mirror either way. I think all the rest are.... classifiable...? haha
cuteycindyhoney 13,307 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 I have a rather strong aversion to looking at the inside of a doll's head. If one popped off, I couldn't deal with it and would freak out until someone put it back on for me. Now for the fun part. Years ago, we went to see the Statue of Liberty. I took it as a personal achievement in that I did not pass out while in the head. I actually felt physically ill, but managed to hold it together so nobody knew I was on the edge of freaking out! 1 Thank you Sparklefan1234!!! *Rarity 123 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 I have about the same fear as @Treble Bolt. Every time I go across a brige, let it be by bus, car, walk, whatever, I have this underlying fear of the bridge collapsing, or just crashing and falling into the water... Most of the time I don't think too much about it, but sometimes when I think about it, I'm like "GETOVERTHEBRIDGE NOW PLEASE...!" for every second that we're on the bridge.Oh by the way, I go across a bridge every time i go to school... So, yeah. I try not to think too much about it.
SkyDream 315 October 23, 2013 Author Share October 23, 2013 Bridges are strange, strange things. Much like stairs, while architecturally sound, they can often appear far too thin to actually support something that we ourselves can verify to be heavy beyond our own capacity to move it. When you're going up or down stairs, it looks like a solid floor. But when you look it from the side, they can appear incredibly thin, and you can't help but wonder how something so thin can really actually hold the weight of hundreds of people stomping up and down it day after day after day after day after day ... Egads.
Scootalove 10,689 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 I fear going down a huge row of stairs or a spiral staircase for that matter, which is pretty odd. It would really scare me to death, going down a spiral staircase. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
GhostPony750 959 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 I fear crowds, but mostly people. I guess this is classifiable, so here's something else: You know that cops have more rights than normal citizens, right? Well, I fear that a cop suddenly attack me. You know, in that case, self-defense is illegal, so if I do anything, I will be in trouble, and of course, the cop was doing his job. Seems stupid, but this kind of things happen all the time around the world. This may be connected to my fear of people, crowds and society.
Pomfritter 165 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 I have a fear that a spider is going to come wandering towards me while I'm on the toilet. I can deal with a spider any other time, but that would be the worst moment.

Anyways, I have the fear of going up stairs because I always feel like someone's following me when I do. I always just end up sprinting up the staircase. James 302 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 (edited) I don't think that there are many unclassified fears actually, you'd be surprised what kind of things have a name. The fear of bridges is gephyrophobia, and the fear of stairs is bathmophobia. Even if your fears a very specific they can probably still be classified under something. Being afraid of looking inside a dolls head is uncommon and specific, but you'd probably put it under pediophobia, which is the fear of dolls. There definitely are a few things that are unclassified, but I think most things are just a part of something else. I have a range of very specific things that would all be connected to social phobia, so they aren't unclassified. Like having someone give me a task so that they can watch me do it, I can't do anything if someone is watching me. I'm afraid of making a lot of noise, I always try to stay as quiet as possible because I don't want to draw attention. I feel an increasing amount of dread every time a car passes me, I feel like the occupants of every car on the road is staring right at me as they pass. All of these things are due to social anxiety however so they aren't unclassified like I said. Edited October 24, 2013 by James

Thanks for the information, James. It's not so much the inside of the head, it's seeing the face in I guess you'd say a sort of negative version. For some reason that really gets to me. Like I said, I felt physically ill while looking at the reverse of the Statue of Liberty's face. I did that once. I don't think I'll ever go back. I gathered up all of my nerve, and found a photograph. Look at this. Can you blame me? That's creepy as all hell! Edited October 24, 2013 by cuteycindyhoney Thank you Sparklefan1234!!! I don't think it's that unusual, it is rather creepy, and people find all sorts of things disturbing, for no particular reason sometimes. I'm afraid of insects, but I'm also very deeply disturbed and horrified by the metamorphosis of insects, particularly by the larval forms of them, maggots especially. I don't really know how to describe it, it's a very different feeling from the fear I have when I see a moth flying around or something, it's indescribably disturbing just to think about it. It's certainly a part of my fear of insects, but it also goes far beyond just fear.
I used to be a stranger 7,993 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 (edited) Whenever I get close to deep water, I have an aversion in mind of falling in and sinking to the bottom. Also, whenever experiencing turbulence in aircraft, fearing that the wings will fail. These both are irrational fears and I dispel them by considering them logically as well as with scientific knowledge which I am fully aware of, but that doesn't stop them from simply persisting for no adequately known reason. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA9Kato1CxA It's not like they build planes out of paper mache. Rough Pathway 157 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 (edited) I have lots of fears. An unclassified one would be my fear of making people angry and making a lot of noise. Maybe those two fears are related. I'm a sensitive person and I just can't handle making people angry. If the person is very angry I actually fear for my life as crazy as that sounds.
