Derp has an official definition now. Do we have a better chance of more Derpy?

For those who weren't aware, Oxford dictionary officially gave the word derp a definition. See here: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/derp

If you'll notice it most definitely doesn't say anything about being retarded. It's listed as foolishness or stupidity. Making it akin to her original name Ditsy doo.

Of course, once bitten, twice shy, so Hasbro likely won't give her another speaking part, but hopefully they can go back to the "Where's Waldo" type of appearances. It seems they're heading in that direction anyway, given Derpy's prominent appearance at the end of season 3, and a basically "Up yours" to the haters in Equestria girls by including her in the first place, as well as having her dancing in the credits with a muffin.

Of course only time will tell.

I'll honestly never see the point in Derpy being so heavily criticized. But anyways, as for seeing her more, I think the credits of the movie show that we're going to be seeing her again, in her derpy self.

I do not believe that they ever stopped including the Derpy model in the show for ponies to find. Derpy was actually attending Twilight Sparkle's coronation ceremony. Other than that, we don't see her again. I can't say whether they will include her in a future episode for some ponies to find or not. Maybe they will or maybe they will not.

I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but the Oxford entry says:

Origin:

1990s: probably an alteration of dur or duh

And "dur" is kind of the standard "retard sound". Remember Carlos Mencia* and "Dur-da-dur"?

*I try not to.

According to the oxford dictionary:

Dur:used to comment on a foolish or stupid action, especially someone else’s.

Duh:used to comment on an action perceived as foolish or stupid, or a statement perceived as obvious:

Again, the official definitions don't match the informal ones.

Well some other things to take into consideration. When new slang words get added to the dictionary, I've noticed the definition is kinda-sorta correct but not quite right. I remember seeing a dictionary define "nerd" as "a useless person".

The other thing is that words are going to have connotations that the dictionary just might not cover. In this case "dur" is associated with bad impressions of mentally handicapped people, and "derp" is most likely derived from this.
