Oblivion 20,271 January 8, 2014 Author Share January 8, 2014 I'm not especially rural(I live in Iowa, in a county seat) but I'm a bit I have a bit of a redneck side and come from a really blue collar family. Both my parents spend a lot of time on farms and in trailer courts, and my Dad served for 17 years in the military starting right after Vietnam(he was stationed first in Kentucky, then in Ramstein, Germany). My stepdad is also a retired farmer. Awesome bro! I use to live in Iowa too! Lots and lots AND LOTS of corn, now I live in rural Nebraska!

Celtore 2,770 January 8, 2014 Share January 8, 2014 I'm going to be living in a rural area soon enough. My parents inherited my grandpa's property and we're working on fixing the place up. It looks so much better than it used to, whole new kitchen, new windows and wallpaper, we fixed the pool, it's really coming along. I'll probably only be living there for just a few years though, I'm almost at the point to start a career. The funniest thing is that the internet service out there is better than here. 512 KB/s shared bandwidth vs 3.0 Mb/s shared bandwidth... and it's cheaper. Take that, Bell Canada!

Denim&Venöm 19,368 January 9, 2014 Share January 9, 2014 I thought I was rural, but damn, most of you are making it sound like I Iive in a city. My towns got just under 2000. We're mostly made up of either old Victorian houses or new housing developments. We've got 2 churches, 2 gas stations, 2 bars, 2 recreational parks, 2 of everything. Except for a water tower. We've only got one of those. I live 10-15 minutes away from the nearest grocery store and fast food places, 20-30 minutes from the nearest movie theater, 45-60 minutes from the nearest concert venue and baseball stadium. But between me and them is miles upon miles of rolling farmland or thickly forested hills. Even still, I'm not sure I would call my town country in the traditional sense. Folks here aren't exactly outgoing. They pretty much keep to themselves. The only people you see out and about are joggers, dog walkers and grade school kids. Everyone else just takes their car and drives to somewhere more interesting. Not much to do around here anyways, unless you're into biker bars, writing graffiti on the playground equipment or paying admission to go to the historical reenactment park. My town is more or less the definition of dull. I certainly feel isolated from everything else. Thankfully I'm not the only brony, as I've managed to convert my bro and 2 of our friends. Even hold viewing parties every weekend for new episodes. We also get to meet others when we take the 30 or so minute drive to the nearest comic store to play in the weekly MLP:TCG tournaments. But really, there's no real opposition to being a brony here because it seems like there's not enough people around to care.

Apple Bloom 2,933 January 10, 2014 Share January 10, 2014 I'm not the only one! I too live in a small rural area. Currently, I'm living in a farmhouse, in the middle of a field, on the outskirts of a small stop in the road that some people actually call a town. I kid you not. It's actually my aunt and uncle's place, but my grandparents and I lost our home about a year ago and they're letting us live here, so despite the crappiness of living in the middle of nowhere, I'm quite grateful. As for how people think around here, most of them are "rednecks" (many of which are proud and self-proclaimed) and seem to be either closed minded, ignorant, or both. I try not to let it get to me though. I like to think I dance to the beat of my own drum, so to speak, and I don't care who knows it. So, because of that, I'm not at all secretive about being a brony. Everyone who knows me knows, and surprisingly, they all seem okay with it... for the most part. Most of my family thinks it's a bit weird, but they don't make fun of me or put me down for it. My aunt did ask me if I was gay once, though. (Which I'm not, but that doesn't matter, does it?) Another thing that stinks about living in a rural area is that when it comes to finding fellow bronies, it can be next to impossible. That doesn't really bother me either though. I get around it by having online friends and going to cons, where I've actually gotten to meet some of them. I can't say I like living here. Although I was born and raised in this area, I feel out of place. Most people around here don't know or care much about computers, don't understand fandoms, and like to do things like hunting and fishing. I don't even like fish, and the thought of killing an animal... (I can't even find an emoticon to express the feeling I would have) I just feel like I'd be much happier in a city or suburban area where I could possibly meet more people like myself, but as bad as it is, as long as I have my computer and an internet connection, I'm usually okay. 3 Signature by @Nico. Stormbringer 346 January 10, 2014 Share January 10, 2014 Well, I live in a little town in the center of Ohio called Shelby. It's pretty rural. I know a couple 'a bronies, and they're my friends. My girlfriend prefers the term "pegasister" for herself. There's death from the beginning, to the end of time. And I'm the Cosmic Champion, and I hold a mystic sign. Onylex 2,837 January 10, 2014 Share January 10, 2014 I used to live in a small town like that, thank Celestia I no longer do. In small towns like that knowing a lot of people can be both a good thing and a bad thing. You're usually able to socialize with just about everybody but, at the same time there are so many times where people can be just plane noisy and close minded... -_-

Like I siad, I love to fish and hunt, it's just kinda how I was raised, and I do tend to be kinda a "redneck" sometimes, but the difference between me an a lot of other people around where I live is that I am completely open minded when it comes to things like gay marriage, fandoms, hipsters, whatever they may be! hm, maybe I actually am not a redneck! after all, a redneck is sorta classified as someone that is ignorant of the world around them, which I am certainly not! Ah well, I rather live out here in the sticks than to live in a 10 story apartment where I hear the cars humming, horns honking, and crime rising. So as I said I am very proud of where I live, and theirs actually a lot you can do out here that you can't do in a city such as ride quads, shoot guns where ever you want(for the most part) and shoot my bow in the back yard. Their is always the possibility that if you moved to the city you might not be completely happy their, just because of all the noise, congestion etc.
epzik8 92 January 10, 2014 Share January 10, 2014 I guess I'm kind of one because my house is in a middle-of-nowhereish type spot, it's surrounded by fields. And I spent my 2nd-12th grade years attending a group of schools that's pretty isolated and empty and surrounded by a bunch of farmland as well. But just a couple of miles to the south of my house there's a huge suburban area. The closest major city to my house is Baltimore, about 30 miles away (meaning I can take a day trip to BronyCon this year). So I'm like right on the edge of rural and suburban. So maybe I don't really count as one. I really don't know. lol.
Redneck 64 February 15, 2014 Share February 15, 2014 (edited) Oh boy, friends:) i live in a swamp, 5 miles from the nearest paved road, in NC. i live 5 hrs from Raleigh, and 1 hr 30 mins from the nearest town of over 5000, greenville. A town of 1000 is 30 mins away. If anyone out there lives in eastern NC hmu!!! after all, a redneck is sorta classified as someone that is ignorant of the world around them, which I am certainly not! i didnt realize that could be used as an insult, should i change my username? its a compliment where i'm from. Dsanders 5,748 February 15, 2014 Share February 15, 2014 Unfortunately, I do not live a rural lifestyle out on the countryside. Sometimes I wish I did though. I love nature, I enjoy peace and quiet, and I would prefer to live in a small town in the midst of nowhere rather than an urban city. Plus a small community usually has that family-like feel that I can find myself getting comfortable in. *sighs*
