Canterlot Wedding, yay or nay?

And don't take this as a personal attack, because I can think of no way to make this point that doesn't sound questionable, but: We're they to subtle, or we're you just not smart enough to catch it? One of the biggest problems I see with people people judge works is calling something to complicated just because they were to stupid(or in some cases impatient) to figure it out.

Don't worry, no offense taken :)

It is a possibility, but the main reason I doubt this is because MLP has not displayed these type of intricacies before (to my knowledge at leat, it is a kid's show after all). Also, this episode follows a trend I've noticed in other McCarthy written adventure episodes episodes (and EG): a dubious premise that packs on plot holes until it falls apart at the end

We don't have any evidence that they weren't either. We can go round and round on this all day because neither of us know the answer, we can only guess.

But you're the one proposing there are subtleties, and I have not seen sufficient evidence to believe so. Therefore, I'm sticking to what I know until better evidence comes along

Personally, I think you're just look for potential problems to pick at because aside from Shining Armor just popping into exsistance(which I can excuse because I like him enough to make up for it) I don't really see any major plotholes in it.

And I can say the same thing form may side.

I loved the Canterlot wedding! It had fantastic characters, songs, and an unexpected plot twist. It's actually one of my favorite episodes (both of them) of the whole series. I wasn't expecting all of the epic music/plot when I started watching them, I was actually expecting a boring, cheesy wedding. Boy, was I surprised!

There are a lot of plot holes, here's a list

1: Everything from (but especially 17:10 to 19:50) this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y36UT2tOvkI

However, I must give the episode credit for using turning the whole "love is the most powerful force" on it's head and using against the protagonists, also for using an unique villain defeat

The problem with the concept of plotholes(especially the way they go about finding them) is that you can find them in anything if you pick hard enough. Shit, I can find them in real life all around me because humans(er, ponies) don't always act rationally. For example, my friend is dealing with bullshit right now that everyone would swear to God is a failing of the writers understand the way the legal system works if our lives were a TV show or movie.

That's where this comes in: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/39964-nostalgia-critic-is-it-right-to-nitpick

Everything has plot holes, hell, some of the best episodes have plot holes. But the reason we don't hear so much about them is because we manage to become captivated by the story and characters that we barely notice them. The reason Canterlot Wedding (and Crystal Empire, and Equestria Girls) fails is because of the fact that the very premise of the episode is a plothole (and a big one). Therefore, we are no longer immersed in the story and begin to analyse and tear it apart.

Of course that is not true for everyone, some people aren't bothered so much by it and manage to enjoy the episode

I'm double sided in that regaurd, I can pick something apart and still enjoy because I understand media reflects life and life itself is a giant plothole.

This thread appears to be discussing MLP:FiM in some way, shape or form. Thus, it has been sentenced to Show Discussion.

This is an automatically generated message, by the way.

Of course you can, but that does not make it "good". Canterlot Wedding was not a "good" episode because it made one critical mistake at the beginning that compromised the rest of the episode (like Equestria Girls)

I's argue that's subjective. All media has flaws and it comes down to if you enjoy the work as a whole enough to overshadow those flaws.

Just because someone can enjoy something does not make it good, I like the Phantom Menace better than Return of the Jedi, yet the latter is undeniably better than the former

Wether it's "good" or "bad" is entirely subjective. But a film or a series or whatever can be judged based on quality, how much care and work the creators put into it, how much thought was put into it

Canterlot Wedding failed because not a lot of thought was put into it

I'd argue that while their is some objective things you can grade(such as animation/filming quality, special effects, or reallly, really, shitty writing that makes no sense) but once something passes on all those it becomes purely subjective.

Kinda, but it's easy to see Canterlot Wedding did not have a lot of thought put into it. It distracts the audience from the story at the beginning with a giant plot hole and falls apart at the end with more plot holes. I wouldn't blame McCarthy fully though, as she apparently recognizes one of the plot holes with Luna's "did I miss anything?". My guess is the episode was done at Hasbro's request to sell more toys and had a rather rushed production

Maybe, it's personally my favorite episode though(with Mystery Cure and The Crystal Empire fighting for a close second). I also personally loved EqG because it had that cheesy late 90s/early 00s Disney feel and that's the era the most remembered part of my younger childhood was in.

Crystal Empire? You mean the episode where Spike save the day and Twilight gets all the credit?

And EQG wasn't THAT bad, a bit below Canterlot Wedding, but I get where you're coming from

Not really, it was acknowledged because the entire point of the moral was that proved herself by being willing to make what ever sacrifice going against the orders to do it with out help would bring to save everyone else and overcoming her hubris and ego that told her she could do it all alone like she was asked.

I admit it had it's problems, but I loved it so much I can over-look them.

Define slave, if you watch the show their relationship is almost like mother/son or sister/brother one.

slave
slāv/
noun
historical
noun: slave; plural noun: slaves
  1. 1.
a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.
    synonyms: historicalserfvassalthrallMore

    antonyms: freemanmaster
    • a person who works very hard without proper remuneration or appreciation.
"by the time I was ten, I had become her slave, doing all the housework"

Now let's look at Spike: was taken from his parents as an egg given to an inexperienced unicorn in hopes of hatching him and risking killing him. When he is hatched, he is forced to be her unpaid assistant and constantly unappreciated

Twilight might be a nice slave owner, but a slave owner nonetheless

Then comes the issue of arguing semantics, and of possibly over-analyzing the situation;

1)On just the question without speculation: He's shown to like helping her and take great pride in it, and doesn't seemed to be forced to do it at all even if she sometimes takes advantage from time to time without realizing it. We've also seen Twilight(as well as the rest of the Mane Six) care deeply for him as evidenced by the lengths they go to to protect him in Dragon Quest, Rarity was even willing to physically beat down a teenage dragon, something I'm sure she wouldn't do for anyone she didn't care deeply about.

2)We don't know the situation of his adoption, someone in the royal court could have found his egg abandoned for all we know.

3)Please stop confusing the real show with "Friendship is Witchcraft", in which is he is treated as a slave and abused accordingly.

Its obviously like the best episode ever. Everything about it is just amazing. The antagonists, new characters introduced like Princess Cadance and Shining Armor, how the complication turned out to be solved, its just a perfect well made episode in my opinion.
