Opinions on Fluttershy's Stare

I think it should be used more often. It really brings out Fluttershy's inner character more you know and makes her more boss than Rainbow Dash. NEVER MESS WITH THE FLUTTERSHY. xD

I'm torn. It is a nice comparison between woose Fluttershy and badass Fluttershy but considering she really has no follow through due to her personality I don't really get how it's so intimidating. Scary looks with nothing behind them are generally quite harmless

I don't have much comments on the Fluttershy state - I'm quite neutral towards it.

I think it should be a occasional thing that she does.

 

Also, it has had it's own episode, The Stare Master.

Well this is one of those few cases where I have a fanon/ theory of my own not really shown much in any way through the show. I have come to think of the stare as a form of magic or psychic field. Its this magic or psychic ability that allows Fluttershy to communicate with animals in the first place. In those cases where animals are particularly stubborn she extends this mental field outward toward the animal(or pony). This mental field compels and perhaps intimidates those who see it into doing what Fluttershy wants them to do. Of coarse Fluttershy's very nature restricts the use of this particular talent so it only manifests when she needs it to.

I came to think this after considering Pinkie's Pinkie sense. For all intents and purposes it seems to be a form of presentiment or future feeling. Considering that Pinkie Sense is an established fact in the universe of MLP it wouldn't be surprising if other ponies had similar abilities. Fluttershy has a special connection with the animals of the world as of yet unexplained yet accepted. My mind went to her having an ability akin to telepathic/empathic communication though to a lesser degree than in other fiction. It could be and probably would be more of a magical connection so one could simply replace the word mental/psychic with magic.

I have to agree with Discord here. Her attempt was hilarious.

 

If she tries using it in the same manner she tried using it against Discord in Keep Calm and Flutter On, then the first thing that will come to my mind, is overrated. I hope the writers don't have her try that again. I get that it works on her animals as seen in The Stare Master, but have the writer's been reading too many fanfics to assume that her stare could be attempted on anything other than her woodland critters?

 

It was probably fan service. I mean the writer's have done some things for us fans before. But this? This was a bit too much for me to take seriously, in my opinion.

 

 

So my overall opinion is this, leave her stare to only be used on the animals, nothing more.

Now I actually think about it though the stare might be useless in MLP but in real life you'd most likely get stabbed in the throat for giving someone the stare in this generation not even worth trying

Well Discord is a being of ridiculous power. Even incased in stone he was still conscious of everything going on around him. Reality itself is his plaything. Can we really draw any conclusions as to the effectiveness of the stare or for that matter any ability when used ineffectively against such a being? Its like using a gun against superman seeing its ineffectiveness and then going "well I guess guns are pretty overrated better not use them anymore".  However if you measure the overall effectiveness of the gun on other beings you'd find it a very viable and logical option in many if not most cases, just not against Superman. I think the same stands true for the stare regardless of its true nature.

I think it's an interesting power, but I don't really get it. Fluttershy looks more adorable than intimidating with her stare. In a way, it's a bit of a manipulative method, but eh. I wish it was shown more or maybe explained how she obtained it.

It is hands down coolest skill on the show. (I want to use it on my brother)

I like how it makes her less, you know useless..... (It made her 20% cooler)

It's one of those things where, I think it can assist Fluttershy with any task that involves animals so they can be more disciplined. At least this skill, won't make her useless in some way.

I like the Stare but feel Fluttershy should use it less and instead use physical combat. We know she can be faster and stronger than Rainbow Dash with the proper motivation, it would be nice to see that used. Who knows, maybe she'll do this to the next villain

only if a disproving stare actually worked. I think the idea is kind of neat & cute, she stares into your eyes and through your soul, kind of reminds me of ghost rider.

It was cool at first, but the moment Fluttershy referred to it as the stare, revealing that she was fully aware of it, it lost its magic. That's the one thing I disliked about that episode.
