Two Spike Character Questions

Rocky

Recommended Posts

1. Do you think that Twilight would be the pony she is today if Spike were never her assistant?

2. Do you think Spike could have been made a bit more tougher and less timid character if he had a male posse to hang out with?

The reason I ask the first question is because I feel that Spike's role as Twilight's assistant is a bit underplayed. Mainly since Twilight hardly thanks him for anything he does.

  1. I definitely think Spike is a huge part of why Twilight is what she is today. First off, if he hadn't been in the test, she might not have passed. Second, if he hadn't alerted the princess to Twilight's behavior, the whole Want It Need It spell in Lesson Zero may have gotten even more out of hand. Not to mention she may not have the same quality of responsibility if she hadn't been Spike's mother/sister figure. So yeah, Twilight wouldn't be the same without Spike.

Yeah, Spike may be a bit more manly if he had his own group of guy friends, but then again, he wouldn't be the same Spike we know, so who knows what would happen if he had guy friends.

1. Well without Spike, Twilight would probably still be the pony she is today just not having someone assist her. But, without Spike she wouldn't be able to get over her test anxiety.

2. Yeah, he could have but he decided to go with the friends that respect him.

Twilight should thank him, it could help him be more appreciated.

1. Probably not seeing that Spike is one of the only things she has to look out for. I'm sure that's how she learned responsibility as she raised him. Also Spike is usually the one that helps calm her down so I'm pretty sure without him Twilight would be less stable mentally speaking.

2. I think so. Spike has little to no guy friends especially since Spike is around good natured ponies that he's so docile. He could change though if he had a buddy to hang with.

I love spike and I do think he need some mroe attention

he's the voice of reason to twilight crazy at times.

And we saw how other teenage dragons acted..oh boy were those guys stereotypical.  Being the only dragon in ponyville not to mention a differnt breed it seems must be hard. Not to mention he probably was isolated in canterlot due to twilight social aquareness priour to season one.

Spike kinda pushed twilight into making friends.  (likely with a nodge from celestail, well not likely that happened).

Could she have sent someone else?

Yeah, but if that was a male pony the anti shipping police would hate that pony up and down.

So all the people who hate flash sentry should love spike from preventing your precious twilight from being next to a real man.

Here's my take on the matter.

1. To me, Twilight wouldn't be quite the same pony she is right now if Spike never became her assistant. Why? Well let's take a look a few underplayed things Spike has done. He helped encourage Twilight to make friends with the other manes, always praises Twilight's magical talents, contacted Pr. Celestia in Lesson Zero when Twilight's study anxiety almost destroyed the town, and above all has never given up on Twilight. There are times when Spike gives up on situations for comical effect, but he never gives up on his friends. Spike basically has to remind her time and time again when she feels like she can't do something that she has a knack for fighting adversity and getting it done. Just like in Equestria Girls when she had doubts about if she can handle the responsibility of being a princess. I truly believe that Spike has become a big part of who Twilight is. For one, keeping her from going mentally insane from the constant stress she's put under. Spike not be honored or thanked that much what she does for her, but I think it's rewarding to him that he's helping out his friend achieve her destiny. Whether their relationship seems like brother/sister, mother/son or whatever, their friendship is relatively strong. I'd like for one day for Twilight to realize for once the times she takes Spike for granted and makes it up to him though, but that's just my thing.

2. The show seems to have a difficulty developing other male characters for Spike to hang around. We don't see a lot of Shining Armor, Big Mac is one dimensional, so....maybe Spike could created a good friendship with Discord. I think Spike's personality can bloom a bit if he hung out with more male characters. You notice how timid and soft-spoken he is at times? Maybe being around a Discord or Shining Armor can help him become tougher and more confident. Heck, I once had an idea of where Spike secretly want to become a noble knight and Shining Armor would be the one to train him.

Spike and Twilight are a team. I don't think either one could function without the other. Eventually they may walk separate paths but thell never be that far from one another.

And I agree, spike needs a male role model. Nothing against Twilight or any of the others but he needs an older brother or father figure and there's no one around that can fill that void.

I like Spike but I often get that feeling of him being unbalanced in all of his episodes.

Here's another question I'd like to ask.

This is an idea that's been done in dozens of fanfics, but how would you feel about the idea of Spike wanting to turn into a pony?

You can have him feel so alone being the only one of his kind in Equestria and asks Twilight to turn him into a pony to make him feel more comfortable in the environment he's in. I'm not sure what would have to happen for him to feel that way though. That's the tricky bit.

1. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for him. Seriously though, her practically raising him with Princess Celestia probably had some effect on her character.

2. Maybe, though I think the fact that he's the odd dragon out in an overtly "girly" environment and the resulting personality is part of his charm.

The one thing that's always bothered me in Spike episodes is that the writers have a hard time getting true grasp on his character. He was really out of character in Spike At Your Service and Games Ponies Play. Not to mention Secret of My Excess didn't exactly make him look all that well. Hopefully if Spike does get an episode in S4, they remember to at least stay true to his already establish character trait unless they want to add to it.

1. Do you think that Twilight would be the pony she is today if Spike were never her assistant?

Nope.  I think without Spike, she would be a complete loner with zero social skills.  She is a little awkward around others, especially in the beginning of the show, but Spike definitely helped her make friends.

2. Do you think Spike could have been made a bit more tougher and less timid character if he had a male posse to hang out with?

Of course.  Twilight is pretty much his mom.  Her friends are elements of harmony, so there really isn't much need for him to act tough.  As we've seen when he visited the other dragons, he could have easily turned out tough and careless if he were raised around guys, or at least around his own kind (wow that sounds racist)

I'm still not sure how th think about the idea of Twilight being Spike's mom. I just don't think she has the right attitude towards Spike to be a mother to him. Now an older sister figure, I can definitely see that.

A lot of people seem to be crossed over this fact. If the relationship between Spike and Twilight is like that of a, mother and son or a brother sister one.

Technically you could call both ( especially since Twilight hatched him) but it doesn't matter. Twilight treats Spike like family and that's all that matters.

Well, she's raising him since he was a baby, so that kinda makes her his guardian/parent.  I'm not sure there's a way to act like a mom, I don't act like a mom, but i am one X3

I guess that's true. To be honest, I just think there are times where Twilight is too closed-minded and naive to be a parent. If Celestia can't be established as Spike's mother figure, I guess Twilight could do. Eithe way, I just need for Twilight to tell Spike that she loves him for the first time in the series. I know she says in S1 "This is not the Spike I know and love.", but I personally don't count it since she was angry.

1. No, I think spike plays a important role in the show, He just needs more attention in my opinion

2. Probably, but I like him the way he is right now

You know what I have a feeling Season 4 could include? I think Spike is going to fear Twilight sending him away again. But this time for a different reason. Those many fanfics of where Spike fears about what will happen to him when he grows up?

Ooh! Maybe he can overhear the CMCs having to do a school report on who they want to be when they grow up and the thought of Spike becoming larger than life will come to him!

Its one of the oldest episode ideas of the fandom and one of the best ones. Seriously, the possibilities for character development are huge. I don't know if we ever going to get an episode like this.

Probably not. We've imo yet to see ONE Spike episode done right.

Well, the only Spike episode I really liked was Secret of my excess, but yeah his other episodes were not great. Dragon Quest had the potential to be awesome but fell flat. sleep.png

It's weird for me to judge Dragon Quest. Because I like the setup and I like the ending. It's the middle where the episode goes a bit downhill.
