Bugplayer 720 December 2, 2013 Share December 2, 2013 (edited) Hi everyone, Bugplayer here! Oh gosh, where do I start... It was supposed to be a much more simple concept at the beginning, but I couldn't resist to try unusual techniques to draw. Especially on her hair, which turned out pretty good if you ask me, I tried the smudge tool to mix color together to make her hair more textured and life-like. Aand also I used various overlays for the water on her face. But I'm reeeaally satisfied with the result. It's not my type to draw sad ponies but I find the concept pretty interesting. Anyways, here it is! Source: http://bugplayer.deviantart.com/art/Under-the-rain-they-can-t-see-you-cry-416952546 I think there's a few thing that I should tweak here and there, but I find the overall piece really satisfying, and somewhat depressing... Hmpf ^.^ Tell me what you think about! Edited December 2, 2013 by Bugplayer
SleeplessSketch 504 December 2, 2013 Share December 2, 2013 I REALLY like this, it's an excellent painting. Using the smudge tool was a good call to make for the hair. I also enjoy the water streak affects on Pinkie, it forces your eye to travel along the painting as you see the whole composition. Keep up the good work, you're doing fantastic o u o, look forward to seeing more from you in the future. 1 Hey there stranger! Silverwisp the Bard 2,353 December 2, 2013 Share December 2, 2013 Nice work, love the rain and the shadework on the mane. -the outlines on Pinkie look a bit too clean for the amount of detail/shading present -The eye seems too stretch abit too far in the horizontal -Where is the light reflecting in her eye coming from? -The rim of the lanterns should arch up, since its taller than Pinkie 1 My Art Thread, updated (almost) daily Tomorrow will take us away, far from home No one will ever know our names But the bard songs will remain. Bugplayer 720 December 3, 2013 Author Share December 3, 2013 I REALLY like this, it's an excellent painting. Using the smudge tool was a good call to make for the hair. I also enjoy the water streak affects on Pinkie, it forces your eye to travel along the painting as you see the whole composition. Keep up the good work, you're doing fantastic o u o, look forward to seeing more from you in the future. The smudge tool was so much fun to play with! Didn't know it could make such a wonderful job for a first try Should have tweaked the water on her face through, I feel it doesn't react really well on the anatomy of her face.... I'm happy you like it though! ^^ That is a really awesome painting, and very emotional too! Thanks! I think the emotion was my primary objective on this one, and it turned out pretty great! Gods, that is amazing. Absolutely beautiful. When I saw it I couldn't decide whether I wanted to cry along with her or smile at how good it looked. Mixed feeling are the best one. I admit, it's a pretty sad picture, but just by how it turned out makes me smile haha, so I'm with you on this one :3 Thanks!

Bugplayer 720 December 4, 2013 Author Share December 4, 2013 Sorry for the late reply! I got pretty busy all day. Wow, dude that's great. As usual I love your work Thanks my friend! Haha, hearing ''as usual'' makes me feel like peoples remember me! That's great! Thanks Pelate! I'm glad to have your support around ^.^ Couldn't be as far as I am right now without great supporters like you Nice work, love the rain and the shadework on the mane. -the outlines on Pinkie look a bit too clean for the amount of detail/shading present -The eye seems too stretch abit too far in the horizontal -Where is the light reflecting in her eye coming from? -The rim of the lanterns should arch up, since its taller than Pinkie The outlines could use a little more work indeed. It feels pretty empty. And the light sources are pretty confusing, I totally messed them up x.x She's supposed to be in a street, so lamps are on both sides of the road. But in that case I should have made highlights on the back of her mane as well... That why I say they are messed up haha. And yes, the lamps are way too small, gotta check that in note. Thanks for the feed back! Very beautiful work. It definitely conveys the sadness very very well. The way you did the rain looks quite beautiful. I'm quite impressed by how simple the rain was to make actually haha! But I'm happy how it turned out :3 And also... Thanks!

galaxysquid 2,122 December 5, 2013 Share December 5, 2013 I very much like this one, Bug. It reminds me of when I walk in the rain. It is very true, under the rain they really can't see you cry. This reminds me of a filly Pinkie Pie. The scene is set very nice, and the emotion goes with it very well. Great job with this one, Bug! 1 My OC, Starlight. It almost brought me to tears myself. Nooo dont cry! Ah, almost... In that case, thanks! ^.^ very well done in my opinion. I didn't think i'd ever like to see a pony sad Who would want to see one, it's so sad ;_; But making ponies sad is and will always be a nice concept for some reasons. I very much like this one, Bug. Bugplayer 720 December 8, 2013 Author Share December 8, 2013 Dat title. You did a great job on this, you should be proud. I am proud actually ^.^ This is one of my favorite so far. And I love the title so much I love the shading work, even if the lighting is a bit strange (not a bad thing). Sad pones are fine, the art fills a gap, mostly left alone by the show. I think that is one of the primary purposes of fan art. It is a very nice piece, and the hair came out great! Thanks! And yes the lighting is a little bit weird. I screwed up the light sources. But I'm still glad how it turned out :3

Radiance64 7,053 December 10, 2013 Share December 10, 2013 Wow, an absolutely gorgeous piece, almost perfect with the way it's shaded and the rain effects. The only thing that really bothers me here though is the eye, looks like if it opened more that it would just take up half her face... otherwise though, just gorgeous. Bohtty 1,775 December 10, 2013 Share December 10, 2013 It was supposed to be a much more simple concept at the beginning, but I couldn't resist to try unusual techniques to draw. Especially on her hair, which turned out pretty good if you ask me, I tried the smudge tool to mix color together to make her hair more textured and life-like. and also I used various overlays for the water on her face. Tell me what you think about! I'm not going to bash you for trying unusual techniques, so don't take it that way. Experimentation is the only way to truly improve. That being said, using overlays and effects on one part of the drawing makes that one part awkward. I'd highly recommend not using layer effects until you're a master artist that actually knows what overlay is doing to the art on a technical level. I'd also not recommend using the smudge tool. This is a common trap that many new digital artist fall into. Photoshop is used for multiply things. The main thing it's used for is photo manipulation. As such, 99% of Photoshop's tools are designed for photos, not drawings. I'd highly HIGHLY recommend you stick with just the brush and eraser tool for EVERY part of the drawing. Lastly the texture on the hair, while being good, does not work with the drawing. It is very out of place against Pinkie's skin. If you are going to do that to the hair then I'd recommend doing something similar to the skin otherwise it just looks fabricated. 1 Legit signature made by Shift.
