First attempt ever

Uh...erm. Hey there....

I'm not an artist, but since I've been watching all kinds of brony arts for the last 5 months, I decided that at least I had to try to give something back to this amazing fandom. So I just bought a Bamboo tablet and tried doing somthing with it. I've never really drawn anything in my life, but at least I'm a fast learner concerning pc programs. So I downloaded photoshop, played a little around and this is what came out :/

 

Since I'm not used to pony anatomy (yet) I captured the position from a scene in an episode.

Soooo, yeah...any thoughts / tips for beginners?

For a first attempt, this was amazing!

 

The only thing that I see wrong with it is that Twi's coat is a lavender more than a purple... but it's amazing! I especially like how you used the shadows.

I gotta admit, I kinda cheated a bit with the shadows. The main reason I made a shining crystal in front of her is that it made the shadows easier to put ;P

If I had to pick 1 favorite out of all the mlp inspired fanart there is,  including music, artwork and writing, it would be this one:

"It's a dangerous business going out your door" by Sethisto. If you havent read it yet, go for it!

 

I tried another painting inspired by this story showing rainbow dash.

Any critics?

I know I'm not really good yet, but I am trying to improve!

Holy cow! This is amazing! Even better than my first go by far!

 

The way you used color fad and differentiated with shading is truly remarkable. Are you sure you aren't an artist?

 

With critique, I would only agree with Magos: the color is off just slightly but tremendous job! I will definitely look forward to seeing more work from you

When you upload the picture, on the right where it shows where you uploaded it, you'll see a button that says, "Add to post." If you click that, you should see some text in your post but if you preview it, you ought to see your picture. Sorry if that's kinda vague lol

Yeah there's not a lot you can do on that lol It's gonna be whatever size it decides it'll be. Maybe if you reduce the resolution it'll fit better but I'm using an 11 inch laptop and it looks great to me.

you can manually scale down your browser window using ctrl+scroll in that case I guess...

I good way to make glowing is right click the layer, click alpha to selection/select pixels/what it is in your application, then make a new layer under the image, use the fill tool with a color, then use the blur tool. When that's how I do it.

Yeah I'm still figuring out the different options. I used an extra layer for all shadows and lightnings as well. And I used the blur tool alot too =)

I'm liking how they are turning out! as far as getting the body right, there are plenty of tutorials, both photos and videos to watch.
