Not_A_Replicant 109 December 8, 2013 Share December 8, 2013 (edited) Love and tolerance is a widely accepted phrase in the Brony community. I've heard some that say it's our battle cry. But is the whole idea of 'love and tolerance' really about the show, or is it just an empty phrase that Bronies just like to tag along with the show just to sound politically correct? I don't see any evidence of much love or tolerance in the show. The characters never seem to love each other unconditionally and I have never seen any instance of "politically correct tolerance" in the show, and especially not teaching it. Personally I'm not into the whole tolerance idea. I don't think it's a good mind set to never be able to think anything about anybody, because well "its their choices, and judging them makes you a bad person."Now you could assume that I think this way because of my 'religious beliefs' (although I don't consider Christianity a religion, it's just a relationship with God) considering the fact tne Bible says that this is a worldly way to think, but honestly even if I wasn't a Christian I dont think I would agree with the the political correctness of this idea. Could somebody please explain to me why Bronies have latched on to this idea and how we even came up with the thinking that it was in the show? Jammo 986 December 8, 2013 Share December 8, 2013 Mainly because our love of show is considered a deviant behaviour. (Deviant meaning against social norms not perverse) The ideal of Love and Tolerance 1. Is a welcoming mantra for people who may feel different for, liking the show. 2. Is good PR so the rest of the world can see what we're all about. Love is something must people can get behind.
silverreverb 129 December 8, 2013 Share December 8, 2013 (edited) I think at some point somebody decided to boil down what they learned from mlp and to them that was love and tolerance. I guess that for some people that would make sense that would agree with that sentiment. how it eventually got to be so widely associated with this fandom is beyond me though Edited December 8, 2013 by silverreverb
Scootalove 10,689 December 8, 2013 Share December 8, 2013 People wanted to use what they learned from the show, to put it into what they stand by and use it as an example to tolerate with anyone feels different about liking or watching the show. It is a saying or a motto that people get behind to prove a point. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
KatieHooves 51 December 8, 2013 Share December 8, 2013 Friendship is love and tolerance. Compassion, generosity, honesty, loyalty, and laughter are all acts of friendship and love. Being a good friend is accepting the flaws and differences and others. All of this is shown quite well in the show and I would say friendship and tolerance are two of the main themes of the show. Gay Bird 421 December 9, 2013 Share December 9, 2013 This phrase originated when the show was a joke and the trolls on 4chan were trying to be funny. As the fandom began to rise, it started to become accepted by ignorant fans and eventually became the slogan it is now. It really doesn't mean anything and it actually kind of annoys me. 4 Check out my youtube channel and my soundcloud too! https://soundcloud.com/sonic_force

Nature's Spell 526 December 9, 2013 Share December 9, 2013 Equestria is not a Utopia and I wound't want it to be. We could point out several times in the show where the ponies are mean, xenophobic, racist, you name it. The difference is that they learn from their mistakes and over all the society is peaceful. People do their duty, follow their destiny. Bronies latched on to that phrase for the reasons given, but the ponies by no means live it. They screw up too. 3 Princess Twilight Sparkle: Princess of Friendship Princess Luna: Princess of the Night My short stories

It annoys me too, whenever I see a Brony posting that, it just kinda makes me want to throw up. Friendship is love and tolerance. I don't see any evidence of tolerance being a main theme. In my opinion I don't necessarily think tolerance is the key to friendship. My friends don't accept the fact that I'm a Brony, they just try to ignore it. There's a big difference between accepting and ignoring. Love, I can understand, but tolerance I just don't think so. FNGRpony 658 December 12, 2013 Share December 12, 2013 I'm sorry, do you honestly believe Equestria is some sort of idealistic Utopia? is a utopia a catch all? Some people imagine heaven on earth is hawaii. Granted at this time of year i'd be hard pressed to argue, some would prefer any area that'sa mecha of technology is their to be their utopia. Okay want me rain on my own parade? I'd have to likely learn how to make animals go missing for diet reasons (I'm not giving up meat) but that's it static. I'm prepared to bend their reality till it's cozy ^^. It's called being evil. For all the goodie, goodie bronies out there no, it likely would not be a total utopia. Sure i'd lose gobs, and gobs, and gobs of technology, and the debauchery that comes with that tech. (pretty much 80 percent of the internet). So if i got past the smut and the meat (and yes that is alot) I think it would be pretty awesome. but than again I think i could had a hell of a good time as Light yagami from death note, up until i got busted. but being a bad guy i'm only suppose to think in the short term. King Sejong 859 December 12, 2013 Share December 12, 2013 While love and tolerance have become redundant and clichéd, we can at least agree it is an core value, whether the ponies are aware of that or not, or for that matter bronies. I would substitute love and tolerance, with friendship and community, for most of the show's plot and story stems around friendship and community. The mane six do tolerate each other, yet they are a close knit group, that talk and do things together, despite character flaws and conflict, Rainbow Dash had trouble tolerating Pinkie Pie, then they began to prank other ponies and each other all in good fun, thus the relationship between Rarity and Applejack had tension, then they came together various times in season two and three, the resilience and endurance of the friendship, in spite of differences in background and character they form a wonderful friendship. Community, no society is perfect, yet despite the ponies diversity in professions and goals, they band together to wrap up winter, make the leaves fall in the autumn, numerous celebratory festivals and holidays, the ponies put aside their flaws then contribute their talents for the benefit of somepony else, well the ponies even saved Sweet Apple Acres form Flim and Flam, it's nice to see how the ponies interact with each other, from resolving conflict to ordinary converse, the pony desire for society is mirrored by our own zeal for friendship and community, so I end by saying love and tolerance is valued, the core aspect of the ponies are friendship and community. Flight 11 89 December 12, 2013 Share December 12, 2013 Humans will never have world peace (Not forever atleast) because many countries are bi-products of war. Humans have it in their nature to fight. But you know what *can* happen? Tolerance. No, not everyone will be tolerant and honest, or generous and friendly, but a little goes a long way. If we all give a little to each other, we all get a lot TL;DR: inspirational speech bro 1 http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/news-runner-r5446. <-- My OC

Yes, it came from 4chan (which is where the fandom started) and it was used as a "counter-troll" to people who were angry about the sudden obsession with ponies, and then (for lack of better description) clueless people started using it with sincerity.
