I think it was dragon season we're twilight is willing to play the mom to get out of the way but still keep an eye on her "son".

i liked dragon season least for a spike episode.

Do we need more growing pain episodes with spike and twilight?

Yeah i know there things like spike at your service,

but i mean with the right writer, can the spike episode be .. fun?

I actually like the parental role that Twilight has with Spike, watching out for him and taking care of him ever since they first met. But, with the right writer a Spike episode can actually be good.

well who is that right writer?  clearly not the new guy, he had twilight ignoring him when spike was freaking out in castlemania.

I tend to see Spike and Twilight's relationship like those of childhood friends, maybe siblings at best.

There's also canon where Spike out right states that Twilight is not his mom. He even calls her "sister" in the very same episode (Winter Wrap Up).

I have wondered what would become of spike as he kept progressing and growing... Would it change him in a bad or good way? I don't know what the writers have in mind for that because think about it not like there is any other dragons there roaming about :/.

But yeah I do see twiley as a motherly figure over him.

see, as a ... apposing brother myself (i refuse to say little i'm taller God damn it).

there is no way, in hell any little brother, ever, ever, ever, ever,

would ever listen to their sister that much.

That would just sit in my craw and fester.

the mom thing, well spike is weak and fragile, i and let that go.

You know i just relized something.

do you think the show is making social cometary on the fact there are no strong father figures on the show?

I mean none.  0, nada, zip.

I just can't see Twilight being a parental figure for two reasons.

1. Her Naivety.

We've seen in the series at times Twilight is oblivious to a lot of things going on around her. Owl's Well To End's Well and Castle Mane-ia are two classic examples. Spike in those episodes felt a sense of being unwanted and being scared out of his mind? And what does Twilight do? Shrugs it off and basically says, "Stop worrying". Is that the kind of attitude a mother figure would have to her child? Hay even a big sister figure would at least act like they give a LITTLE bit of a crap about her little brother's feelings.

2. She takes Spike for granted.

I could go on all day on this one, but I'll keep it as brief as I can. The one thing that's always bothered me about Twilight is how at times she doesn't appreciate Spike as much as the other manes. I know that she has the connection to the Elements of Harmony to the other manes and they've saved the world a lot, but the least Twilight can do is let Spike go out on his own to make his own friends. That way he won't have to be so alone all the time. Let him experience the magic of friendship the way that she did.

On Twitterponies last night, there was a scene where Spike and Twilight had a small scene where Spike practiced dragon magic and got himself into trouble. When he came back to Twilight back to normal, she hugged him and shed tears of joy. That was a breath of fresh air for me because Twilight doesn't care that much for Spike in the show or the comics.

My point is that if Twilight wants to be considered to be a mother figure, she still has some growing to do. She's flourished in learning about the magic of friendship, but being a parental figure is a whole different ball park.

Twilight's and Spike parental relationship it's another reason why I love Twilight. She carе of him as a big sister ( sometimes as a mother) the moments when Twiley cares of Spike or educate him , is shown in such cute form, Awwwwwwwww

All that ranting aside, Twilight has done lots of good things for Spike from what we've seen on screen. I just wished the touching part of their relationship could be focused on more. I can see lots of D'awww with these two. You have NO idea.
