Why do some people dislike "Lens flare" ?

I've seen a few complaints about Lens Flare. And why did it count as a sin on some of the movie parodys... >_>

I'm confused why would it be bad.

I think it looks beautiful O_o...

Be accepting and thankful of it.

My guess is some folks think its over used? like in the latest star trek remake.

It's mainly disliked when it is overused, or unfitting for the scene. It can get really annoying to have nearly every single scene in a movie have lens flare, when have the time; it's unnecessary. Plus, too much of it at one time can make it hard to see what's even going on.

I do like lens flare, but only when it is used correctly, and not too much.

Lens flare just seems to be used a lot. I think it looks great, but just use it sparingly IMO

I refuse to let go until you're impressed.

My only problem with it is when it is used in sigs, some people apparently think that is what makes a good piece of graphical art. Just put lens flare everywhere and make it shiny and boom, you have an amazingly stunning work of art. Granted I am not too good at any of that stuff myself but that is my opinion on it.

I guess when it's overused? I personally love it, even in the Star Trek remakes, which granted, have a freaking ton. I barely notice it most of the time. But I just love the way it looks. Especially in MLP. :D

[WARNING: This is all coming from a guy who put lens flare in a bunch of his art]

It's a cheap visual trick that people rely on too much to fill up the screen. If you want the bridge of the Enterprise or Normandy to look like a strange, futuristic, just make it look strange and futuristic. And in stuff like Super 8, where the setting and vibe of the movie don't even fit a flare-tastic aesthetic, it feels like window dressing. Blinding, obnoxious window dressing.

If you're using it to make something seem particularly bright or dreamlike or something else logical, it's fine.
