Does anyone know of a good starting point for drawing mlp:fim?

I have wanted to draw in the show style for quite a while now, but I really don't know where to begin. There are a lot of tutorials out there, which makes it kinda of hard for me to know which ones are any good. So can any of you guys out there give me some advice, or a link to a good tutorial or something? By the way I not new to drawing, I am just new to drawing candy colored horses.

@@MrRiderman (If you still need help); I began drawing ponies just this year and I've almost already mastered the style. The key is to draw with as little reference as possible (much like with any other cartoon). Have a look at the references first, draw a couple of pieces with references, then try drawing from memory. Even though you might fail at first, don't give up. You can always check certain parts of the body language and whatnot if you aren't sure. Perhaps make notes and samples on how different things should be drawn, to help you remember. If you draw a bent hoof for example, draw that couple of times until you master it without having to stare at the references again.

Shameless self-promotion: I drew this one without any reference.

Personally I would like to see less show style ponies.

But if you want too do show style, vector programs would be a good place to start.

Not really, you would have to learn with the programs first.

The traditional way is usually the easiest...just look at a reference and study the proportions and draw them on paper... :)

Regardless of what style (or medium) you're aiming for, in order for your ponies to look good, you'll need a firm grasp on pony anatomy.

First take these. They're all the anatomy references you'll ever need:

Then draw ponies. A lot of ponies. Ponies standing, ponies from different angles, ponies jumping, ponies cartwheeling, ponies lying down ect. I suggest you start out with pen and paper; there'll be plenty of time for digital later. If you have problems with a certain pose, try googling a shot from the show.

Do post your work. It's a god way to stay motivated
Do draw regularly, even if its just a quick sketch. Your skill will deteriorate fast once you stop
Do ask people for honest feedback. "Awesome 10/10" might feel good, but it has never helped anyone improve.
Don't make excuses
Don't expect to get good overnight. It will take time

If there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask.
