I perfectly understand if you need this changed in any way (it's your RP after all) but I had the idea that, due to his very nature, the reason why Shadow has not been seen so far is that in the absence of the Princesses he has taken to locking himself in with many books and tomes from the Canterlot library, obsessing over the knowledge they hold, for better or worse.
