My little head canon

OK everypony! I just rewatched "Princess Twilight Sparkle", and I just thought up my own (pre)history of equestria. looking for a critique of the content, not the writing. 

 

     Long ago, before the first ponies came into existence, the land was ruled by men. These men were good and benevolent, worshiping their gods of harmony with artwork, music, and stories. Before long, however, a dark shadow crossed the land.

     From the north came war and destruction to the men of good, brought by the darkest of kings, King Sombra. The men of good prayed to their gods of harmony for an end to the darkness, and the gods obliged. From the heavens came forth Accord, the gods' own champion.

     Accord led the men of good to victory over King Sombra, banishing him to his own kingdom, far to the north. However, in the final battle against the crystal tyrant, Accord became tainted with evil. This darkness consumed accord, transforming him into Discord.

     Discord returned to the land of men, ruling over them with an fist. He turned the land to a world of chaos, changing to suit his every whim. His rule tore a rift in the kingdom of man, dividing the men of good into three factions:

     The men of the heavens, a religious sect devoted to gaining power through their own gods

     The men of the sky, a warrior tribe motivated by glory and bloodlust

     The men of the earth, a merchant guild driven by greed and gluttony

Discord saw this division and branded it with his own hand, remaking the men in the image of the gods of old as he remembered them:

     The men of the heavens became unicorns

     The men of the sky became pegasi

     The men of the earth became earth ponies

The gods, infuriated with Discord's betrayal, used their power to seal him in a heavenly prison, and moved the people to a new land where they could prosper. In this time, the newly made races of pony came to terms with their differences and lived as harmoniously as they could, having lost trust in the gods of harmony.

     However, hardship eventually returned, and the ponies fell once again to hatred and fear. They fought one another until the evils of old drove them out of the land the gods had given them, and back into the land they had once known. Learning from their mistakes, the three nations joined in one republic under the name Equestria.

     Harmony reigned in Equestria, until once again, the land fell to darkness. the stars aided in the escape of Discord, and the republic fell once again to tyranny. Two sisters, Celestia and Luna, gave themselves to the gods of harmony, and became their champions.

     They sought out the tree of harmony on the word of the gods and took the elements of harmony. with the weapons of the gods, they cast down discord, and peace took Equestria once again, under the careful guidance of the two sisters.

 

Later, they cast down King Sombra, and you all know the rest.

edit: Equestria girls takes place in a PARALLEL dimension wherein King Sombra never came to power.

I disapprove of any "head canon" that is so fanficcy as to create a Discord counterpart so creatively named as "Accord".

But it is a very entertaining story. I don't care for anything involving humans to be a part of Equestria's history but it's neat.

My head canon involves FiM and Adventure Time sharing the same post-apocalyptic world. Europe and the US were at war, with the latter using conventional nuclear weapons while the former deployed new reality-warping bombs ("Mushroom Bombs") based on Hadron Collider technology.

 

Eastern Europe was completely annihiliated, with a chunk of the planet actually breaking off so Earth now resembles the broken holo-planet shown in one of the Adventure Time Graybles episodes. The epicenter of the reality-warping devastation was Korea (it was what everyone was fighting over), which was hit so hard that all people of the north became magical dogs and all southerners turned into Raincorns and slipped into another dimension. these new species then continued a centuries-long war. Back in Europe, fallout from the other side of the planet turned all UK citizens into ponies of various sorts, creating Equestria. Further East, the magic gave rise to Parasprites and Changling populations.

 

Celestia and Luna are former pre-catastrophe humans who created the "Equestria Girls" pocket universe as a means to take a break from living as ponies and using their magic to keep the Earth spinning and orbiting the Sun. Princess Bubblegum is the sentient physical bi-product of the Mushroom Bombs and can imbue any object she wants with her essence, making it live.

 

Discord is an immigrant from the much stranger Adventure Time side of the planet and is distantly related to Magic Man. Trixie gathers her powers from occasionally travelling east into more strange magical territory beyond the UK. Rainbow Dash has Korean Rainicorn genes in her ancestry, hence her colouration and ability to create sonic rainbooms (which any real Rainicorn knows are simply portals into their reality). Looking directly into a Sonic Rainboom at the wrong moment infuses the viewer with magic, hence the condition Pinkie Pie and Screwy both suffer from (Derpy was a near-miss). Lumpy space is the remains of the US East coast, being hit so hard that like Korea it was dropped into another dimension entirely.

 

Princess Celestia and Luna are well known to Princess Bubblegum (who simply considers them "Princess Pony one and two"). The two kingdoms almost went to war over the whole Crystal Empire/Sombra disaster but thought better of it when they realised the consequences for the Ice Kingdom. Disruption to that kingdom or the Ice King, who single-handedly saved the planet using the power of his crown (an artifact closely linked with the Elements of Harmony) and remains the only force keeping the magical and radioactive fallout at bay by coating all affected landscape with a layer of ice; is heavily frowned upon by both sides. The US (Adventure Time) is a lot stranger than Equestria due to the relative distances from mushroom bomb magical fallout. Further North in the UK (i.e. Scotland) there is hardly any magical fallout at all, which is why Everfree forest plants and animals act normally compared to the rest of the world.

I only named him "accord" for lack of a better name, besides, what would you rather I call him? pteranadon?
