Hawk Moth 390 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 I thought that she was hilarious. The thing everyone needs to understand about Pinkie Pie is that her mind operates on a whole different level. Everypony is using the decimal system, and she's using base 7. Pinkie is obviously socially awkward, in that her emotions are always set a few points higher by default. Yes, she's blunt, and yes, she can be inappropriate, but that's just how she is, and if she were to change, she wouldn't be the fun party pony we know and love. HeroBrony 36 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 (edited) I don't think pinkie meant to make Fluttershy cry at all. She obviously didn't know she was doing that to Fluttershy in the first place. She even said so in the episode. watch this clip carefully...... pinkieshyrose 58 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 (edited) Just going to add this. Does this look like a insensitive jerky pony to you? e.c.t Yes Flutters was crying but if we think of how Pinkie is... this is probably what a pony like Fluttershys crying is worth.(She did this for a while.) Also there are more frowns throughout the episode far more then her normal... Edited February 20, 2014 by pinkieshyrose 1 Pinkie Pie : "And that's how Equestria was made!" CharmingStallion 63 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 Lets also keep in mind that to a pony like Pinkie something like stage fright is unheard of and she has no concept of how that can affect somepony. I'm with those who say she was still in character (her normal outrageous no filter self). And I do think she was stating the obvious out loud at fluttershy and not specifically being a jerk. It reminds me of the Equestria girls movie where she spews out what happened to Twilight in the humanoid land and the humanoid version of Pinkie blurts out how Twilight came to be in the humanoid land as well before Twilight can really say anything. Singe 2,111 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 (edited) Pinkie Pie pushes Fluttershy to break and cry. For a character who takes it upon herself to turn a frown upside down and her element is laughter. She should have noticed to back off when she was going too far, like in Pinkie Pride when Rainbow Dash was not happy. Maybe Pinkie Pie needs to start swearing more since she takes her promises seriously. Edited February 20, 2014 by Singe

pinkieshyrose 58 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 Well, from the way the story is heading now, each of the mane six are here to stay. I really don't see how they could write out any one character and the show still be the same. If they removed any of the mane six, I probably wouldn't watch much after that. But I still stand by what I said, I think the writers had Pinkie acting that way for comic relief. I really can't see Pinkie intentionally trying to make anyone feel bad, you gotta remember she's still learning. A Friend in Deed was a huge leap forward for her character and so was Pinkie Pride. They need to stick with how they had her in those episodes. It seems like after they have an amazing episode for her, they do a complete 180 and oh here's crazy, insensitive Pinkie again! I wish they would stop back-tracking with her development. It's gonna start to piss me off. ... but shes not insensitive... if she was she wouldn't have cared and would have just done it on purpose she was never insenstive to being with... and shes always been crazy its her character shes supposed to be different from the norm and therefore borders many lines... her character development never told her not to be crazy. Everypony is still learning... and all characters have done something bad. She isn't just the more fan liked parts... shes also can be other parts... shes deeper then that. Shes comic relief because part of her lives to make others laugh... shes oblivious and socially awakward because she lived her childhood on a rock farm not with any other pony's but rockfarmers. Shes crazy because she sees the world differently thank to a sonic rain-boom. She gets mistaken by jerky because others see how nice shes always is so when something small like this happens they think it messes up her character... when its not even true... (My opinion.) and there is even more to her... If you take apart these things that she wasn't even teached to repress then she will finally be out of character. I'm having a hard time understanding your message because of the sentence structure and your wording is confusing.I didn't really see any points being made on your part. And I'm sorry, but I disagree. The definition of insensitive is: showing or feeling no concern for others' feelings. But I didn't mean that she flat out doesn't care, it meant that she APPEARS to not show concern for Fluttershy's situation. I feel that most of the time Pinkie doesn't notice these things and it comes across that she doesn't care. When she said "No offense, but you kinda sounded like a dude" to Fluttershy I was very surprised at her. That's what I meant by she was being insensitive, because saying that to Fluttershy DID NOT help the situation whatsoever. And Pinkie Pie is not socially awkward by any means, how could someone who is socially awkward being friends with every single pony in Ponyville? She also throws huge parties and invites everyone she knows, and that's usually a lot of ponies. Yes she grew up on a rock farm and was around the same ponies everyday, but she's obviously become a lot more social since then. An example would be the episode "A Friend in Deed" during the beginning when she's happily talking to every pony she's come across. I think if anypony is awkward socially, it's Fluttershy. I also did not say that Pinkie being crazy or silly was out of character for her. But let's talk more about her being "insensitive". By that, I mean that Pinkie used to be so caught up in trying to create fun for her friends and herself, she didn't stop to look and see if the things she was doing were causing anypony discomfort or distress. Example 1: during Party of one, Applejack and Rainbow Dash are bobbing for Apples when suddenly Gummy is latched onto Rainbows face. It's obvious that Rainbow did not like It because of her facial expression and the way she quickly pushed Gummy off. Example 2: in the same episode, Rarity is drinking some of Pinkies punch when she notices that Gummy had been swimming in it. Pinkie doesn't seem to think anything is wrong with it and waits for Rarity to take another sip. But it was very clear that Rarity was disgusted by it because she spits it out into a potted plant. You can even see Twilight in the background, and the expression on her face indicates that she noticed Rarity's discomfort. Don't get me wrong, Pinkie is my favorite pony and I'm not trying to say that she's bad, I'm just saying that I wouldn't want to see her revert back to her old behavior. She's learned and grown so much and I'd like to see it stay that way. Edited February 21, 2014 by PartyWithPinkie

She can still be the crazy party pony she is, yet still be sensitive to other peoples feelings. (example: A friend indeed, and party of one) 2. She isn't just the more fan liked parts...she's also can be other parts ?????? it's hard to understand what kind of point you're trying to make. 3. Oblivious and socially awkward? Oblivious to people's feelings, yes sometimes. However, socially awkward? Is this the pony we are talking about that says hello to everypony, sings, socializes and communicates, as well as wants to be around the other ponies most? If anyone is socially awkward it's Fluttershy, she cowers at just the thought of being in front of people. She's extremely quiet, and is way too afraid to ever express her opinion loud enough. Yes Pinkie Pie did grow up on a rock farm, but if you see how she is right after she earns her cutie mark, she is 100% different. Her hair poofs up, and she knows what she wants to do, which is having fun, laughing, throwing parties for other ponies. What kind of socially awkward being would want to throw parties? 4. She gets mistaken by jerky because others see how nice shes always is so when something small like this happens they think it messes up her character... When its not even true... (My opinion) I want to first say, I completely respect your opinion, but it's actually quite hard to decipher what you are trying to point out. She gets mistaken by jerky? How nice she's always is? I don't think "PartyWithPinkie" was saying it messes up the character at all, all she was saying is that they are backtracking with her character. I respect your views, I get you think she's sensitive, and was sensitive to begin with, but there are instances where she wouldn't exactly understand the proper thing to do in certain situations. 5. *Taught And what was she taught to repress?

Actually "A Friend in Deed" is a good example of when she's learned to tone down her behavior and take into consideration more the feelings and wishes of her friends. Example: at the end of the episode Pinkie wants to throw a party in celebration of Cranky being reunited with Matilda and becoming friends with her. But when it's clear that Cranky and Matilda wished to be alone for a while, Pinkie acknowledged this by giving them privacy. Here is the scene in the characters lines that I copied from IMDB: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinkie Pie: [explodes like a firework] Woohoo! This is just fantastic! Ooh, now we can hang out together, and chat, and sing songs, and [gasps] Pinkie Pie: party! Oh, I can throw you guys a big party! It'll be called a "Welcome to Ponyville, I found my lost love, I'm BFF's with Pinkie Pie Party"! [she sees that the couple is paying more attention to each other than her, and that she needs to dial it back] Pinkie Pie: ... Or maybe something less over-the-top and not so super-hyper. Cranky Doodle Donkey: Pinkie, we're eternally grateful to you. But... Matilda and I just want to spend some time together in peace and quiet. So in conclusion, yes she has had to learn to notice these cues, as it is shown in that episode.

Like when Fluttershy went to far on being assertive and mean and then we see that again in the Crystral Empire where she was talking to the couple and thinking of pouncing on them. Sometimes they re- learn things or go back to there previous states for a moment or go too far on what they have learned. packmule1123 55 February 22, 2014 Share February 22, 2014 To me she just seemed a little bit like a jerk, but no one is perfect. It does add some depth to character. She didn't seem to realize she was doing it. I still didn't really care for it though, but it doesn't really matter. I loved the episode anyway. This was made possible by Sir Lunashy. ISN"T FRIENDSHIP MAGIC!!!?" -Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity "No matter how many times others tell you you're great, all the praise in the world means nothing if you don't feel it inside.......Sometimes to feel good about yourself, you gotta let go of the past. That way, when the time comes to let your greatness fly, you'll be able to light up the whole sky." -Cathy Weseluck as Spike
Pinkiesprite 0 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 (edited) With passion you've got to take the good with the bad. Most of the time, Pinkie Pie does things in her own way, and though it seems random, in the end it works out. She often knows what to do, and how to do it. However, in order to write her as a whole character, and not just as a manic pixie girl who never has a downside to her random, intelligent creative energy, there has to be moments where her best traits are her worst. When Pinkie Pie's imagination runs away with her, she begins to manifest many possible scenarios , and if she is unable to reign them in, her passionate nature can be overwhelming and biting, instead of uplifting. An example of this is when she pushed herself too far in the Party of One. As someone who lives outside the box however, such chaos can be navigated successfully, and she always returns to the land of reality usually better than before. ("I always let my imagination run wild, and then it returns...with cake!") Using this knowledge about Pinkie, we look at Filli Manilli. First of all, I I think Pinkie wanted to push Fluttershy a bit. The more I think about Pinkie's role with Big Mac, the more it makes sense. After all, Pinkie Pie doesn't usually show a competitiveness nature for no reason. So, this leads me to believe that Pinkie Pie was already manipulating the situation so that Fluttershy would be able to sing. As for why she was freaking Fluttershy out so much? I think it was the same sort of thing- force Fluttershy to confront the fear, walk Fluttershy through the worst case scenarios but than show her that nothing really bad happened at all. The problem was that Fluttershy did not react very well to this pushing and could not handle the intensity of the method. So, putting it all together, we have moments in the episode, each with different aspects of Pinkie's personality. 1. The scenes where Pinkie Pie was actually trying to help: Pinkie Pie was passionately trying to tell Fluttershy that she was great, that nothing bad happened, that it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be, and that she empathizes with how frightening it could be, so Fluttershy should trust her judgement. And thus Pinkie Pie came off as a forceful jerk. You can see that Pinkie at some point gains awareness of this, and Pinkie Pie seems>frustrated< when her method was not working. For example, when Twilight said"What Pinkie Pie meant to say was that you did great." and Pinkie Pie says "Wait, didn't I say that?" or " Some of what Pinkie says is true", and Pinkie was like" Only some????" or when she quite earnestly turned to her friends and asked "To much?" 2. The Scenes where Pinkie Pie is getting ahead of herself, and engulfed in theatrics ( loosing herself passionately and getting carried away within the infinite stream of possibilities). 3. The scenes where Pinkie is playing the role of comedic jester whose self amusement sometimes goes to far. Pinkie Pie was kinda bored with episode, as we have addressed Fluttershy's shyness again, and again, and AGAIN. I think there were a few moments, where she was just doing things to self-stimulate and get through this episode. Comedians land a lot of jokes, but I am sure each and everyone of them remembers cracking a comment to lighten to mood only to be met with crickets and shocked stares. via @youtube In conclusion, yes, she was forceful, seemingly insensitive, and a bit shrill. She said things that did not come off right, and no matter how much more energy she put into fixing it, she just kept missing the mark. That is what passionate, enthusiastic, creative, smart a$$'s look like on an "off day" or when they enter a room and fail to "read it". And when Fluttershy is a coward that is in character. And when Dash is shallow, materialistic, and rude that is in character and when Twilight is judgmental, reclusive, and obsessive that is in character and when AJ is evasive, stubborn, and narrow minded that is in character and when Rarity is materialistic, snobby and selfish that is in character. It's dynamic and why I love this show so much. And I LOVE all of the mane six, in spite of, and because of their flaws. via @youtube Edited February 24, 2014 by Pinkiesprite

LZRD WZRD 1,929 June 29, 2014 Share June 29, 2014 Those 2 instances where she made Fluttershy cry. Although it really wasn't THAT bad, I think it was the effect she had on Flutters that got everyone upset. If she had just stared at her like "wtf are you talking about" nobody would have cared tbh Check out my channel for awesome video reviews and analysis! https://www.youtube.com/c/LZRDWZRD
Ashen Pathfinder 16,161 June 29, 2014 Share June 29, 2014 (edited) Well, Pinkie was just a little too...enthusiastic and failed to catch that she kinda crossed the line. It was in her character, but much like Fluttershy to Rainbow Dash in "Sonic Rainboom," she failed to notice she was doing more harm than good.
