Can we not turn this thread caustic? It would be very disrespectful to the OP to do so and this is also starting to look really damn childish.

"You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that."

The thread was pretty childish to begin with, really.

Yes, because being proud of who you are and promoting acceptance is more childish than mocking someone for it. This attitude right here is why outsiders think us bronies are a bunch of homophobic and sexist man children.

Have a little respect for other people's feelings.

PS, you can reply if you want but I'm done here. I'm not going to further contribute to the derailment of this thread.

I'll reply, as at least you'll see it.

"Look at me guys! Look at me ma! Look at what I did, put a poster on my door! I'm not even promoting acceptance, I'm just putting something up for attention!"

The want for attention isn't really a feeling I hold with high regard.

I think I understand quite enough. I'll have a lot of fun, thanks for the recommendation.

I also understand the shift key.

  • 1 year later...

So i have a gay pride poster on my door and i came home today to a note saying that I was awesome for showing pride.

this is the poster i put up, i printed it on a peice of printer paper.

Okay, first of all, Flutterdash is strictly a fan pairing, not a canon couple. Secondly, Shining Armor and Big Macintosh?! Shining is married to Cadance and there's nothing in the show indicating Big Mac is gay, either. :scoots: All that aside, the actual drawing itself is pretty good.

Alright, this has been bothering me for over a decade about this goddamn Pink Tide of gayness.

No, this isn't just about you; this is pretty much every single gay couple in the fanon of any show ever made. This is the entire modern gay community I'm talking about.

You're not proud to be gay. You're proud to force gayness onto others.

See, it's one thing to pick characters who are relatively undefined or haven't been in a relationship (e.g. Braeburn) and make up that they're gay, but the characters in that particular poster are quite well-defined.

Why are those characters gay? Because they're the same gender and spend time together?

You have a canonically straight married man kissing another man and two female friends making out. You're converting their existing, well-defined relationships into and/or replacing them with gay romances; this shows that you want to pretend their straight relationships don't exist. In your world, people aren't allowed to be straight.

You know, kind of like how in the homophobe world, people aren't allowed to be gay.

You're not doing homosexuality any favors or showing "pride" by forcing every single character under the sun to be gay. Homophobes do that to gays by forcing you to be straight. "They're the same gender and they probably hang out a lot! THEY CAN ONLY BE GAY!!" is a sickly and abusive outlook, because there are so many valuable kinds of relationships other than romance (gay or otherwise) that you're simply tossing aside and invalidating for your own selfish reasons, and it's incredibly hypocritical to repeatedly see this from a group that itself has suffered this same white-washing abuse from a backwards society for more time than I'd like to measure.

By doing this -- by consuming everything with gayness -- all you're doing is turning gay into a threat. And guess what? That's precisely why homophobes exist; they always thought of you as a threat. You are hurting gay's cause because you are validating this perception.

Homophobes have tried to filter you out of society and pretend you don't exist for time immemorial and you know precisely how wrong that is. How is it that you can do exactly the same thing? What kind of person can demand a right and/or privilege for themselves and in the same breath deny it to others?

Gay isn't a faction to fight for control points. Gay is but one part of who you are as an individual. If you want gay to be normal, treat it like it's normal.

Don't be proud of being gay. Be proud of being you. You're a lot more than just gay.
