On the nature of hope and despair

I have considered suicide once. I had the knife in my hands, in my room, and I stood there, ready to cut my wrists. That was two years ago, and I still stand here, today. This may be due to the dead silence forbidding me to perform the act. It could have been the tears of my parents, the sadness I saw in the future. But, more likely, it was hope.

Hope is the entity that drives us forward. It is the song that carries us to sleep, the water that makes our flowers grow. Hope is required for any and every meaningful feeling, in any and every case. However, what are the stars without the cold darkness of night?

Despair is the counterpart that balances hope. Without despair, hope would be meaningless. We would never fear, only knowing that our situations were perfect. Despair is the dash of reality in the mix, the harsh setting of life. It is locked in eternal combat with hope, neither of them to defeat the other.

Hope and despair go hand in hand, the candle and the shadow, the sun and the moon. Hope is truly the ecstasy of knowing that the darkness will not take you, even if it does still exist. The darkness of despair will never fall, but neither will the hope that guides us through the never-ending maze of shadows, until we finally ascend to a world beyond.

Hope is, and always will be, the one thing that keeps us going, while despair is the force that keeps hope going

Hello @Elements of Power. I have moved your topic from Other Fan Works to Non-Pony Artwork, as, unless I am mistaken, what you are writing in this thread does not involve MLP.

I am very sorry that you have wanted to commit suicide in the past. I know life can be difficult, but suicide is never the answer. We can all overcome the difficulties we are going through. There are many reasons to be happy in life, and I believe we should do our best to focus on the positive. If you are still feeling suicidal thoughts, I urge you to utilize many of the resources available to help people overcome these thoughts, some of which are listed in this thread.

Your thoughts on the issue of the relationship between hope and despair are interesting, and I would definitely be interested in reading more.
