Discordian 6,015 March 6, 2014 Share March 6, 2014 Not so much a problem with the fandom so much as this forum: IT'S TOO DAMN BIG. I don't do well in big communities. I like when things are small and quaint. That's why I stick to one or two boards nowadays. Plus the quality of discussion drops completely when you have twenty people trying to make the same topics every month or you get a topic where discussion is relevant but everything that could ever be said is mentioned already within the first few pages. Either that, or the contributors break into unmovable camps which firmly oppose each other, and the remaining posts are restatements of earlier points. However, that seems to be a human problem in general, whether it's fandom discussion or national politics. We just need people to think outside the box on topics more often... Everleaf 541 March 6, 2014 Share March 6, 2014 I don't mind gore fics or clop fics but the R34 stuff does get creepy but it is not that scares me the most in the fandom there is nothing that actually scares me but some that make me stare at the screen like whaaaaaa? anyway if I had to choose the awkwardest thing that as i said made me stare is Smile HD does not scare me but oookay 0-0 I (kinda) liked it but at the same time i sound it very umm yeah I like gore a lil, but COME ON 0-0 The deepest of the Everfree! But I can like grimdark like Fallout: Equestria. It has to make sense and I'm okay with it. Another thing I just hate are all these hatefics that spawned from Conversion Bureau. Gyruss 125 March 6, 2014 Share March 6, 2014 Gore and fanrage are my two biggest brony turnoffs.Also, I saw some talk of Cupcakes. Now for me, the original fic was bad but tolerable. If you really want to get into stuff I consider sick, there's an alternate ending in which Dash escapes, knocks Pinkie into an oven (hard enough to both disorient her and bring her back into noncrazy mode), and turns the oven on so that Pinkie cooks alive while begging to be let out.Okay, so I don't exactly remember if the oven was turned on. What is that one? They don't scare me, they just make me shake my head at what people will do with fanfiction. Gotta say, especially horrifying since Scootaloo is my favorite. I also read it by myself. In the dark. With some creepy music. And, after Cupcakes I didn't think it could get any worse. I really gotta quit with this Grimdark fan fic stuff. Later though I read out loud in a GTA V lobby with my other brony friends and we all laughed at the end at how over - the - top and ridiculous it was. So, I guess what I'm going for here is: if you know the characters and compare them to the ones in the fan fic, they're nothing alike. If you REALLY think about it. Stancet 688 March 6, 2014 Share March 6, 2014 The thing that scares me about the fandom... I LOVE the Brony fandom. I just don't want it to end because I've seen us do some amazing stuff. If the show ends and only the crazy people remain die-hard fans then I think everything before will cease to be. Even worse, we could be responsible for our own destruction if the drama-kings have their way. But still, fate has been kind to us and we've survived some intense emotional struggles. A lot of people seem to think their 'ideal' should apply to the fandom as a whole and conveniently forget the incredible diversity of the fanbase. Well, I should have said from some of the "Christian" contingent, there are those who are open minded, but a lot of them here are VERY close minded, clinging to the laws of the old testament, even though they were made void by Jesus' death. You are partly right. But Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." We Christians expect to lead by example. But sometimes I do believe the battles we choose to fight seem pointless and only serve to alienate the people we're trying to help. Exactly, one thing that disgusts me about a lot of mainstream and even the not so mainstream ones (especially JWs) is the hate towards the LGBT community, especially as I'm part of that community. Yet I still love God. The Conversion Bearu was kind of a hatefic against humanity in general(well, at least the spin-offs from a certain user that's now infamous among anyone that knows about the CB universe), so it's understandable that it's brought so much ire and drama. If you're scared or question the minds of those making gore-fics that understandable. But i hope you don't shun the latter. I just think that people writing something just out of spite of the original is a bit too far in my opinion. I mean, we all (at least those who read fanfiction) have seem fics where characters are blatantly out of character, but these didn't generate a whole genre of hatefics. Some of these seem made just to antagonize the original, and then the same thing happened in reverse to the point where it is HARD finding a TCB fiction that doesn't fall into "humans are horrible, ponies are perfect" or "ponies are helpless wimps, humans are BAMFs". And then, when a new author tries something, people drag his fic into one of these camps and bombard it with hateful comments, even if it's not true. I guess what I'm saying is that these hatefics purposefully subvert ideas of the original and of some of the fics that followed in it's wake. For example... In the future, mankind is screwed up bad, either because of our fault or because of some other thing. This is a premise of several videogames, movies and books that are acclaimed and successful. I don't think it is too hard to imagine that if the ponies, even the canon ponies from the show, saw that humans are in trouble, they would try to help. And the answer for this was a whole slew of fics where the ponies are invading, they are being controlled by Celestia the conqueror, they think that humans need to be fixed... Or even those fics that seem to exist just so that humans can blow them into colorful pony pieces. EDIT: typos... typos everywhere. The main issue with CB is that it's fans tend to be massive misanthropes and knowingly write the ponies doing horrible things while presenting them has heroic for trying "save" humanity via mass brainwashing and forced transformation.
