I think all princesses who don't deserve their status to be removed as one.

Knowing magic is not enough to be called a princess. Luna and Celestia raise the sun and moon. They also had epic battles with EACH OTHER. Sure TS saved the world a few times but she became a princess because of being good at magic, THAT'S NOT OKAY!

I'm pretty sure you just skewed your argument there, 'cause by that logic, Celestia and Luna don't deserve their titles either, since all they do is change the skies and beat each other up.

No. That's not all that they do. As princesses, it's their duty to maintain order in Equestria and protect their subjects by whatever means necessary, which includes using their magic. But just because they can use powerful spells does not automatically mean they deserve to rule the land as fair rulers. They have to know when and when not to use them, not to just let them loose on the populace. They also have to know how use their authority to change the world that benefits all inhabitants and punishes those who wish to cause harm. And some of those choices, as Luna!NMM's banishment demonstrates, can be extremely difficult to bear.

Twilight earned her title because she been learning to be a strong defender, a wise leader, and a loving friend. And it's been with the help of every one of her friends in Ponyville. She may have had the smarts and the spells, but she lacked something crucial to being a princess: friendship. None of the adventures she's had or the lessons she's learned would've happened if her friends weren't around to join her. And while she hasn't reached the same level as Celestia, she's continuing to understand the traits of being a good ruler. We've only gotten a glimpse of what she can do, and there's still plenty more adventures to come down the line.

And as far as Cadance is concerned, she was most likely going through the same thing as she grew up a princess. She was probably on her last leg of training between the Royal Wedding and her ascension to the Crystal Empire's throne. And yet we see she's been stressed herself close to the breaking point, powerful as she is. She was doing it to protect the innocent Crystal Ponies, not for herself. That takes dedication. And if "Games Ponies Play" and "Three's a Crowd" is any indication, she's found ways to cope with her new position, from taking moments to breathe to spend time with her new royal family.

Just because they are princesses, doesn't mean they're useless. They all have responsibilities, and they're still learning about the world that they live in. And doing it with everypony close to them.

I'm almost certain there are more ponies in Equestria that fit that criteria. Shining Armor is a wise leader and good friend, yet he became a prince from marrying a princess. Also it seems that Luna and Celestia are immortal. Is TS immortal? I didn't think so. And for cadence, she has no back story of any sort. I could say that she is a princess because she is Morgan Freeman's love baby and it would be true. So until Cadence has a back story, I refuse to except that she is a princess.

It is revealed in the book 'Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell' that Cadence was born a pegasus and was adopted by Celestia. Her ability was to be able to spread love. She pretty much earned her princess status like Twilight did. So don't go pointing fingers on who should be princess and who should not. Also, I disagree about Celestia being a normal pony. Who will raise the sun? Sure, Celestia had the power to raise the moon but I don't think Luna has what it takes to raise the sun and perform the Summer Sun Celebration. I honestly think that Luna doesn't have enough power. I'm sorry. It pains me to talk about my favorite pony like that but I have to suck it up like a big girl.

That may be, but would they be able to match or even surpass the sisters' skill levels? Not for a long time, buster.

And yet you don't question how Celestia and Luna became alicorns in the first place, let alone princesses.

I don't think the other two princess will be meeting the sisters skills anytime soon.

And for not questioning how Celestia and Luna became alicorns, they are, more or less, gods. They control the whole world and no pony dares question them.

So it sounds like to me that if you are perfect at magic, a good friend, and a brave leader you get to be on the same level as god.

At the very least they could make Celestia and Luna queens rather princesses.

*ahem* If they're gods, why did Celestia get her ass handed to her a couple times? Shot down by giant bug and her own sister. Captured by said sister and some thorny brush. Robbed of her tail. Would a goddess allow that to happen so easily? I don't think so.

Princess does not equate to god in this world, or in any. Gods were portrayed as perfection, barely taking a scratch out of a fight. Neither Celestia or Luna meet this criteria. They got beat up pretty bad a couple times. And I'm pretty sure Lauren herself that they're not gods, just really long long living ponies.

The fact she lost a few times doesn't matter, each time she bounced back up. They are gods in a sense that they rule everything from the seasons to the ponies themselves. Assuming there is no higher being in this universe, they're pretty much the goddesses of Equestria

Disregarding my obvious affection for Alicorn princesses, I'm still gonna share my thoughts. XD

  • I think Twilight had enough skill to show princess-hood. She has the right logical and caring personality that would quite beneficial to the role as well as her being extremely talented. And she had like what, two years and a bunch of villiain encounters to prove this? Yeah, I would say that her role is deserved and in good standing.
  • Cadance earned her rank similarly to Twilight's. In the book Crystal Heart Spell, she was once a pegasus with abnormal knowledge and talent with the magic of love. She saved a small, rural town for prominent doom, and Celestia deemed her worthy. She seems pretty well fit for the job, right? She's smart and extremely caring.
  • Celestia and Luna earned their roles probably from birth. They seem to be born and destined for alicorn princess-hood. Celestia and Luna have probably been ruling for thousands of years. They are powerful, caring, and wise with many years. I fail to see one hundred percent that they are not capable.

(Luna, according to Faust, was turned evil with her bitter feelings from an outside source. I hope they continue this idea with Luna being out-of-character and manipulated when spending her time as Nightmare Moon)

I think it would be cool if they were to bring Nightmare Moon back for a season finale/start.

Maybe have Luna be manipulated by Discord. Then she goes power crazy again. IDK might be a cool idea.

-"Knowing magic is not enough to be called a princess." Why?

-"Luna and Celestia raise the sun and moon." Your follow-up to your last statement was about a spell that they aren't needed for? 'Hearth's Warming Eve'.

-"They also had epic battles with EACH OTHER." That's not a good trait among leaders.

-"Sure TS saved the world a few times, but she became a princess by being good at magic, THAT'S NOT OKAY!" You mean like how Celestia, Luna, and Cadence are all Princesses (not alicorns mind you) for being good at magic?

The fact she lost a few times doesn't matter, each time she bounced back up. They are gods in a sense that they rule everything from the seasons to the ponies themselves. Assuming there is no higher being in this universe, they're pretty much the goddesses of Equestria

The Tree of Harmony is more powerful than the sisters, as stated by them.

Um, average ponies control the seasons, does that make them gods?

Twilight earned her title by being a Kind,Nice,Smart,Helpful pony so she still desever that title too be a princess if she's not a alicorn.

Candance was not born a alicorn but she started earning her rank too be titled as princess as for luna and Celestia in one episode showed that they were not born alicorn's and  they earned there title's too.

To discuss this topic you need to accept that we can't rewrite or redo what happens in the show. Fanfic and head cannons are fine, but they can't erase aspects of the show we don't like. They can make them more palatable though.

As stated in Magical Mystery Cure Twilight internalized and showed the five elements, leadership and made new magic. That is why she ascended. It really is that simple.

You can disagree with the writers, but you can't deny that it happened. The writers create reality and hopefully do so competently and in a way most fans can accept. It really comes down to accepting, being in different, or walking away from the fandom.

Sorry for saying this, but I think any alicorn princesses who did nothing to earn it to be stripped of their powers, and made back into normal ponies, that is, one of the three normal types, earth pony, pegasus, or unicorn. Maybe just Princess Celestia, and Luna should be the only princesses, though, maybe Cadence deserves the title as well, but not Twilight Sparkle.

So, 2 is ok, 3 might be as well, but 4 is a little much.

Yeah, what has Twilight done to make her worthy of her royal title?

  • Banishing the Nightmare Forces from Princess Luna.
  • Saving Ponyville from Discord.
  • Saving Canterlot from the Changelings.
  • Saving the Crystal Empire from King Sombra.
  • Finishing Star Swirl's unfinished spell.
  • Saving the Tree of Harmony.

Yeah, why would you want to give somepony like that authority?

Also Twilight is the personification of all the Mane 5's elements and is literally Magic i.e. Friendship. Plus her cutie mark is the center of the freaking Tree of Harmony! The second Celestia saw her Cutie Mark appear she knew what Twilight would become, if she lived up to her Cutie Mark, and we know she did just that. Edited by Nature's Spell

Ok, she is a great hero, doing so many great things for Equestria. Maybe she does it, even more than Celestia and Luna. Maybe she should be the lone ruler, of course, Celestia and Luna are needed. Maybe it is Cadence who kinda doesn't deserve the title, and needs to be stripped of it. Um, what is this Tree of Harmony, something included in the new season?

Yeah, the Tree of Harmony is kind of a big deal.  Watch the show sometime.

Cadence is actually a princess because Celestia adopted her.  She also redeemed a powerful witch.  That's what the supplementary material says.

In all honesty, the only pony with a royal title that doesn't seem to deserve it is Blueblood.

Him, most definetely. What had he done to deserve his title? He is just a spoiled brat, in a way. He doesn't seem like a good leader, he definetely can't stay calm in a crisis, done nothing of great recongition, and he doesn't seems care about his subjects. Maybe he wasn't turned into an alicorn because he doesn't deserve it, heck, he doesn't deserve the title. If this is all true, Blueblood is the only pony with a royal title who didn't deserve it.

Every single Alicorn has proven themselves to be more than worthy of the title.

Celestia and Luna defeated Discord, saving Equestria from his chaotic rule.

Cadence defeated the entire Changeling army, including Queen Chrysalis.

Twilight has done way too many things to list here.  She is worthy of being a Princess probably 10 times over.  In fact, it could almost be argued that her finishing the spell was a formality, since Celestia and Luna were clearly already thinking about making her a Princess.

I hate to say it, but there aren't any Alicorns that haven't earned their title in some way.

Who's "Worthy of being an Alicorn"?

Who decides? Coming dangerously close to Übermensch "Superior beings" implications.

Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Twilight all have one thing in common. They don't view themselves as anything "more special".

Being an Alicorn is considered a blessing, a gift not an exclusive superiority.
