Lulaypp 2,555 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 (edited) You completely killed your whole point. MLP isn't supposed to be confided to one demographic, because it wasn't this way at all. When Bonnie Zacherle founded this franchise, it was for all-ages and unisex, even the toyline. This is a very bold vision, even back in the late-seventies/early-eighties. MLP was never supposed to be "for girls," but for everyone. Friendship Is Magic revived those roots that Hasbro/MLP long abandoned starting with Tales. Well to me it is... Don't believe ask my whole family. Dark Qiviut 22,383 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 Well to me it is... Just because you think so doesn't mean it is, objectively. You need to look at the quality to determine that. Altogether, FIM's quality is much better than G3. Ironically, though, G3 wasn't the worst. G3.5/Newborn Cuties is. ThunderSaddle 56 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 (edited) From my point of view, MLP:FiM and previous My Little Pony cartoons have nothing in common. MLP:FiM could very well be named completely differently, they are just using a well-established franchise that's all. Apart from the name, there is no comparison really... Previous MLP cartoons are predictable, waaaay too naive (even for little girls) and personally, don't interest me the least bit. Shanks 10,816 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 (edited) I never hate it. In fact, it is my favourite generation. I think most people hate it because it is too girly and boring. Well for one thing, G3 is for girls. MLP is for girls. Secondly, it is for young girls. I watched it when I was 14 and I enjoyed it. Now I am 15 and I still enjoy it. Little girls are indeed who Hasbro had in mind but Bonnie Zacherle the original creator had both boys and girls in mind when she created the G1 cartoon and so did Lauren Faust when she first created FIM. One thing that has always bothered me is why shows are given a free pass with "its just a kids" show or worse "its a girls show" arguments when they are bad or flawed. The irony is that while entertainment in general is going down the toiler "mature" shows seem to be going down faster and farther than "kids shows". From my point of view, MLP:FiM and previous My Little Pony cartoons have nothing in common. MLP:FiM could very well be named completely differently, they are just using a well-established franchise that's all. That is not entirely accurate, the original G1 cartoon has quite a lot in common with FIM actually there are a ton of G1 references in FIM. Nighmare Moon was partially based on the G1 Tirek, her goal was to bring in eternal night his goal was to bring in the "night that never ends" with his "Rainbow of Darkness." Tirek was eventually re vamped for FIM but was changed a bit to where he was given another G1 villain named Lavan's abilities instead of the Rainbow of Darkness and Scopan was changed from a king he cursed into his brother but was otherwise pretty much the same. King Sombra was partially based on the G1 villain Grogar who was a unicorn who was cursed by dark magic and turned into a goat like monster and had him and his kingdom of Tambelon banished to another dimension much like how Sombra was banished yet cursed the Crystal Empire to be frozen in time before his banishment. Though that is indeed accurate when referring to G3. Edited May 11, 2015 by Darth Bane 2 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
King Sejong 859 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 Ever seen the Nostalgia Critic review of "A Troll in Central Park"? As he said, it's junk food, brightly coloured junk food for the soul, as it talks down to children and offers little aside from a images, as children mature, they would adventure to something new, I watched Sesame Street then I discovered Batman the Animated Series, and I have been an admirer of Batman ever since. Generation three is forgettable, boring, predicable, inferior animation, poor character, lack of conflict, lack of plot and poor respect for their audience, I don't hate G3, but it is aggressively abhorrent, it is something to avoid, especially G3.5, that was the lowest point of the cesspool of pandering and shilling, generation three is a media fart, it happens, it's unpleasant, and you forget like it ever happened, I am glad we got generation four, it was redemption for MLP that it deserved; it was the substance we deserved too. Alphys Hedge 671 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 Probably because the ponies looked like actual ponies, which when the show is about talking colorful ponies, that's not such a good thing. 1 Character in profile picture is Pearl from Steven Universe. I don't think that was the case with G3 at all, the G1 ponies on the other hand did look a lot like actual horses except maybe for having slightly more pastel like coat and mane colors. Fractured 2,684 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 G3 left absolutely no impact on me, bad or otherwise. The characters weren't interesting, I couldn't connect to the plot, and the animation was sub-average, but it wasn't absolutely terrible in any of those categories, just "there". Completely harmless. I think that makes it worse than G3.5 in a way. At least, I had a reaction to G3.5, even if it was laughing at how incredibly bad it was. When I watched G3, it felt like I was just wasting my time, and that's something that animation shouldn't do. 1 Produced by the phenomenal J.R. The Awesome One 1,315 May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 This is because they are literally the equine version of Bratz and for a guy like me who is used to the current gen's art style and great writing, G3 horrifies me.

Denim&Venöm 18,755 May 12, 2015 Share May 12, 2015 Huh. Surprised this made a comeback. Having watched most of G3 & 3.5, I can now say that I am an enthusiast of the sub-genre. No, it doesn't have the complexities & maturity of G4, but it doesn't need to. It's not something to watch in order to be engaged. It's something to watch for the fun of it. And if you're not getting anything out of it, that's perfectly fine. Maybe I like it cause I'm getting the sort of youthful, fantasy enjoyment out of G3 that I'm supposed to be getting out of G4, but G4 has outgrown that. It has maturity and complexity, but lost that sense of wonderment. So yeah, I enjoyed a charming birthday. Dancing in the Clouds is my favorite. I liked it's sequels, Friends aren't far away & A Very Minty Christmas. Star Catcher happens to be my favorite pony. I thought the mini episode Positively Pink was very well designed, the best background art of any series with a heartwarming story, albeit for only 10 minutes. I made this argument in the https://mlpforums.com/topic/102781-g3-fan-club/page-4, but I think Newborn cuties shoudl be coutned as a seperate entity from G3.5, as the previous entry of G3.5 is decently animated & voiced and is a stark contrast to Newborn Cuties. If you're interested, here's an argument on the positive aspects of G3 & 3.5. http://ilsor.tumblr.com/post/99082951032
