Simple Questions that are Hard to Answer

Sigma

Recommended Posts

These are a favourite of mine. I have a list ready, and feel free to ask your own questions as well.

1. What is your clearest definition of good and bad?

My answer: Good and bad is a matter of opinion. For instance, a very orthodox, religious person would see gay people as evil, while other's would see gays are completely fine, and that the real evil is the discrimination being brought on by the religious orthodox person. My opinion on good and bad is short. How I see it, everyone has their own unique sets of what they consider good and what they consider bad. It's not you doing what I consider bad that makes you evil, it's you doing what you consider bad that makes you evil. If you believe something is evil, and you still do that something without any remorse or regret, then in my eyes, your trash. My statement can be summarized with a quote from a book called 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee. "People who do the best they can with the sense they've got."

2. What is the difference between justice and revenge?

My answer: Justice is for the greater good, while vengeance is for personal satisfaction. Let's say, someone accidentally kills your son by backing a truck up in to them. It was an honest mistake, will likely never happen again, and the person responsible is feeling depressed as a result, but you still want to see him locked away for life because you're sad, angry, and you're never going to see your son again.

Now let's change the scenario to a serial killer who used his truck to hit-and-run your son while he was walking to school. You're sad and angry as before, except this time the person responsible feels to remorse, has done this before, and will likely do it again. Not only do you want to see him locked away for life out of hatred, but it's also the best thing to do considering that the serial killer's imprisonment will save lives.

3. How much of the body can you replace with a machine before you stop being considered you.

My answer: Non-existant. This is a tough one, but let me at least tell you what I mean. If you where to lose your arm in a wreck and have it replaced by a mechanical arm, of course you would still be considered you. If someone where to cut out your brain and put it into a robot, the robot would noe be considered you and your body would simply be called your body. But what if we where to replace a part of your brain with a powerful computer chip? Just a very small part of the brain, sure, you're still you, but as you replace more and more of the brain, how far can you go before you're not you and instead you're very presence has been replaced by a machine?

4. If you where to remove an entire hemisphere of your brain and put it in another person's brainless body, which one would be considered you?

My answer: Both. If you're wondering, yes, having half of your brain removed without dying is possible. In fact, it's been done before, and there's often times little to no problems occurring after what's done is done. A woman once had half of her brain removed, was given an IQ test, and scored somewhere around one-hundred and forty on it. People are also working towards making brain transplants possible, so this question can be considered a serious one depending on your views.

I'm sorry if you find some of my examples disturbing. I felt that, by creating an extreme situation that you would feel strong emotions towards, you would better understand what I'm saying. I would really like to know your opinions on the subjects listed.

Well.....here's more of a rhetorical question that people today still can't answer.   Yet, for others its a very stupid question:

"Is the sky blue?"............95% of people will respond yes.......5% would respond no.  Why? The Earth's actual sky color is white.  Its blue b/c of the ocean's reflection.

That's pretty much what i can come up with now, but i just had to say it, ;)

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia

1. What is the difference between overacting and underacting?

Answer: Overacting - Responding more emotionally or forcibly than needed. Underacting - Acting in a play or movie where you are emotionless and restrained.

Mostly this question is hard to answer for some. :P

1- I consider good what is done with consent and does not harm. Bad is what is done without consent and causes harm. There is a big gray area over harmful things done with consent (mostly good, since consent is paramount) and not-harmfull, but done without consent (mostly bad, because consent is paramount). Judge cases individually.

2- Agreed.

3- I am my memories. If those are safe, I'm still myself.

4- Neither. Consciousness is an emergent process. If it is changed (and will, because it is a manifestation of the physical state of the brain) the result is different.

Isn't it because the light waves are being refracted by molecules in the air? Mostly water?

Oh. Finally got one.

Where is MH 730?  ^_^  Just kidding.

The big question for me is: is there a God? And if there is one, what should I do?

Yes, the colors in sunlight, the angle at which solar illumination travels through the atmosphere, the size of airborne particles and atmospheric molecules, and the way our eyes perceive color.

  • 4 years later...

The hardest question for me to answer would always be, "are you okay?"

To be honest, my life isn't getting better at this point in my life... It's getting worse.

It's just would hate to disappoint those who ask me that question, and I wouldn't want them to be worried about me, so my answer would most likely be, "I'm fine."
