Now with the recent C&Ds to fanon projects (Button Mash/Molestia/Double Rainboom.) what does the future hold for BronyCON and and other small conventions? What about the fanon songs that are being written and produced? Technically speaking the songs are the property of the song writer but when you read the letter to JAN Animations it says



Now would that mean all songs written and produced by us bronies have to have all references to MLP removed? Technically speaking lets say 'Discord' by Living Tombstone or SimGretina's remixes. The name and song are intellectual property of Hasbro..as for conventions even the words 'Brony' are fine but given the unauthorized Hasbro merchandise being sold (Plushes/Art/Toys.etc) would that mean they'll need to shut down the cons too? This all very frightening realities I don't want to contemplate but very real if Hasbro is trying to shut down anything in likeliness to their product.

The key here is the phrase "by creating a likelihood of dilution and of confusion with respect to Hasbro's blah blah". What Hasbro is essentially on the hunt for, hysterical fandom aside, is anything that is so likeable to the show itself (or their merchandise) that it could be mistaken for official product. Song remixes don't really take enough from the show to be considered worthy of Hasbro's time to C/D, I believe.

Hello @Buckshot!  Just so you know, there is already a discussion on Hasbro's C&D polices and their possible effects on the fandom here if you would like to join in on the conversation.  In the future, please be sure to use the search function to see if your idea for a thread already exists before creating a new one.  Not only does this help keep the forums organized, but this also avoids any possible confusion that multiple threads tend to cause.  Take care!

 

And though I have quite an extensive thought on this matter, I will leave that for the main thread.  However, I will say this much: if Hasbro had the malicious desire to protect their IPs as some seem to believe, C&D's would be a far more common practice and the the brony fandom would have face oblivion long ago.
