I've always loved RoosterTeeth's web series "RWBY" and found many Brony drawings of the members of team RWBY, but I never found one of my favorite character--Pyrrha Nikos from team JNPR, so I figured I could give it a shot!

 

This is my very first attempt at drawing a pony and I think it turned out pretty good.

Whaddaya think?

42 views and no replies? Ouch, I think I'd feel better if there were at least a couple, even if they were negative! C'mon! Internet anonymity at it's finest right here! I can take criticism just fine! How will I improve if I don't get objective critiques?

Unless your skill level is around the likes of Atryl or Knot, you won't get that many comments; there won't be enough people to sing your praise and most f them will be too polite to offer criticism.

 

That beig said, your truly neer had that problem *cracks knuckles*

OT: Youve done a good job of adjusting the costume to pony form, but the whole thing suffers from a lacking grasp of anatomy (head proportions, legjoints ect.). It gives the whole thing a rather flat look.

If you want to improve, I'd suggest you start by getting to grips with pony anatomy.

Thanks! I did this pretty quick, but I see what you mean. Had to start somewhere I guess! I usually try to keep to myself as well, so I can understand why everypony is unwilling to critique, but I am very grateful for your willingness to offer some advice! I had to ignore a lot of my perfectionist tendencies because I wanted to do this ASAP, but I see now that I should use those tendencies to improve the quality of my art. Finally, somepony who is truly helpful!!

My own grasp of pony anatomy when drawing (laziness notwithstanding lol) isn't exceptional, so I don't feel I'm in a position to criticize yours.  I do like the lines in her mane and tail; most of which don't even appear to exist in the original character model.  So that's a liberty you took, and I commend that.

As I said in the OP, Pyrrha is a character from a web show called "RWBY" (pronounced Ruby). She's a supporting character from another team in the show called Team JNPR (pronounced "Juniper"). The teams get their names from the initials of their four members each. It's produced by RoosterTeeth (the creators of the Halo-based machinima "Red vs Blue"), and is headed by Monty Oum. They put it on YouTube more recently.

The lines are kind of there, but they're not as sharp in the show since they blend colors and shades really well in the series. Thanks though! I thought it would help give the hair a little more depth/contour. I found a couple anatomy charts/graphs on DA to help get the proportions a little more accurate. I'm working (slowly) on a new version of her. I actually started by tracing a pony body to get used to the kind of dimensions and looks. Hopefully I get it done sometime in the near future! (This MLPF WC takes a lot of my attention, and the FIFA WC takes the rest!! haha)

Oh haha. Ruby Rose is recruited to a school for talented fighters along with her sister Yang Long and a number of other students. Each of the students have special ammunition-based weapons that don't usually use ammo in our world (Ruby has a giant scythe that can transform and shoot bullets and be propelled by said bullets as well) that can be manipulated into different forms that compliment their fighting style. There are villains who are trying to use "Dust" (a source of powerful magical energy in their world) to overthrow the world. The school trains them to fight these villains. The first season focuses on their team development and they fight a number of powerful monsters during their first season. The second season is due to premier in July. The new trailer is out too. Is that better?

Okay, well, I finally got around to working on my re-make of my Pyrrha pony! I had started re-working a basic pony model, but I discovered that the style of Pyrrha and her armor fit WAY BETTER on the taller Alicorn body shape! So I chose my favorite Princess and got working!

 

I'll be 100% honest: I literally traced a model of Luna to get the proper body shape!   CHEATER!! Yup. I'm not even ashamed!

 

But I did the armor, mane, and tail adaptations free-hand and IMO, she looks gorgeous!! Now I just need to learn to create these proportions free hand so I can take full credit for my creations!

 

Of course, I still need to color her. I did some shading and darkening so she was easier to scan into my computer. I think her rear legs look like they're robotic with the lack of color! She should really pop once I get the color version done!

Never played it...had to google her! Some of the pictures looked more like a cross of Pyrrha and Ruby, but I finally found one that did look like Ruby! I wouldn't be surprised if Monty Oum was a fan!

I colored the picture above, but I didn't have markers, so I had to use colored pencils and it turned out splotchy. So, here's the colored pencil version:

 

 

I'm currently drawing over it in Microsoft paint so as to get it to have solid color. Here's how it looks so far:

 

I've made a couple adjustments to her tail and some of the armor detail on her legs and chest; but my goodness it looks so much better going over it with MS paint! (IMO of course)

I decided to finally start working on the other characters from RWBY.

 

So far all I've accomplished was getting a basic idea for the look of each of them using the pony creator thing on dA.

 

Team RWBY (from dA)

 

Ruby Rose

 

I'll crop the hair to ditch the ponytail, adjust the leggings, cape, jacket, and maybe touch up the boots a bit.

 

Weiss Schnee

 

I'll have to do a fair amount for Weiss

 

Blake Belladonna

 

I think Blake will be fun to do, but lots of work of course.

 

Yang Xiao Long

 

I kind of went crazy with Yang concepts...since she is easily the most expressive of the girls. Plus, her eyes change from blue to red when she becomes infuriated. Also, she smiles when she's angry--it's scary...so, each concept has a version with blue eyes, and another with red (Yang for days!)

 

Gotta love the Wonder Woman stars on her bum! haha Those will be gone for sure!
