What First person shooters do you like? Share your stories of your favourite FPS's throughout history from Wolfenstein 3D to COD:Ghosts.

Personally I like a lot of FPS's from the mid 90's - early 00's. Like Doom, Half Life, Blood, Unreal Tournament, Vietcong (my TL;DR tumblr post on that is here if anyone is intrigued) http://comicconreviews.tumblr.com/post/82181274194/vietcong-the-greatest-vietnam-war-game-no-one-plays

I'm more keen on singleplayer campaigns then Multiplayer when it comes to my FPS. What about you ponez?

Here's some FP games I like:

- Warhammer 40 000: Fire Warrior

- Team Fortress 2

- Left 4 Dead 1 and 2

- Serious Sam: The first encounter

- Serious Sam: The second encounter

I can't currently remember any else for now ^^;

I like all types of fps games. So I'm not gonna vote cause I cant decide.

I would preferably want a game that has single and multi player as single player can get boring after a while, as where multi player has you playing with people from around the world, and there are different maps to play on.

I'd say the best multi player only (shh offline with bots counts as players) game is probably counter strike, though it is for more skilled players (not me).

Garrys mod is very enjoyable.

Cod has just lost its... Power, like, it was a great game a few years ago, but after the one-hundredth game it's just gotten boring.

Fallout is a brilliant example of a single player game. On all the fallouts I've spent around 400 or so hours on (not very long).

I can't describe how awesome halo is in my opinion. The single player, though short, is very good, the multiplayer is evenly balanced (in my time playing it). It has a great story, the graphics are good. The guns just work. I've spent some where around 1000 hours on halo.

And then there are third person shooters, but since this is an FOS thread, I'll leave them for some other time.

P.S. This is just a few games i wanted to talk about.

CS:GO is my favourite FPS at the moment.

Titanfall is second.

global offensive is awesome, its just everypony try's so hard on it. Like on casual yesterday everypony took it so seriously, on casual, if it was competitive then I would understand, but I'm trying to have a bit of fun, and I can't cause every ponies playing to win and for kills, nothing more.

Honest question. I mean, the gameplay is in first-person, and you shoot shit, ergo...

No! We must never speak of that game, I only like the third person platformers on the gameboy.

CoD is the one I play seriously. In fact, I won most of the custom camo packs in Black Ops II in small, but high level tournaments. I'm an extremely competitive player when it comes to FPS games. Even though I enjoy multiplayer-focused FPS games the most, it certainly isn't the one I only focus on.

Games like Operation Flashpoint and Arma are more simulation games but they're amazing in design and difficulty. Other games like Fallout and Timesplitters are more an FPS genre on their own. Combining different elements into one fun action-packed game. As long as the game is fun, challenging and engaging, I like it.

I didn't vote for any of the choices, each and any is good, as long as the game is good, it doesn't matter whether the genre is racing, FPS, TRPG or Point-and-click. I enjoy anything.

MP is generally regarded as a great game(one of the best in the series, actually), even receiving a near-perfect score from IGN. Zero Mission and Fusion don't even hold a candle to it. I don't see why you detest it so much.

When I first played metroid, it was zero mission, it was a brilliant game, we got fusion after a while and I loved that as well.

When we bought metroid prime on the wii I was like " this is gonna be amazing" but I found out it was a fps, it just broke the game for me, having a game that is a third person platformers to a first person action shooter. The controls were stupid as well. Maybe if I had a GameCube i could actually play the bloody game. I don't see how it got such high reviews when the other ones were so much more playable than the prime series. At least other M was third person and attempted to be a platformer.

That's one of the best lists ever.

If your not english its hard to get some of the jokes on killing floor though, like the millwall one.

From the looks of it, you just popped the sucker in, realized it was different than games on a handheld console, decided not to accept the fact that not every game in the series has the exact same gameplay and refused to give it an unbiased shot. Everything that makes a Metroid game is in there. The morph ball, bombs, beam upgrades, suit upgrades, hidden items, puzzles, you name it. And regarding the controls, just because you aren't used to them doesn't mean they're stupid.

This actually reminds me how people reacted to Zelda: the Windwaker before they eventually got used to it and realized that their prejudice towards change was kind of holding them back from a great experience.

I'm not even English and I know they're a soccer team and I know most of they other references to British comedians or comedy shows

I tried giving it a chance, and it just didn't appeal to me at all. Yes the fact that I am used to the handheld ones was a big factor, but I just couldn't enjoy that game anyway, and I need the controls to make sense. I used to think that the WASD controls for pc games was completely stupid while I had a laptop, once I got a pc I was still thinking, how does this work, but after a while I got used to the controls. With metroid prime i just couldn't get used to them at all. Everytime I went on it, it was like I was going on a new game for the first time and I have to find out what the controls are.

yeah, but to truly understand some of them you have to be english, or know lots of about here. One of the best quotes has to be the Wayne Rooney one.

Well, let's get one thing cleared up: were you using a gamecube controller or the wii's motion control? I can't comment on the motion control since I've never played that version of the game, but in regards to how it's set up for the gamecube controller, it's perfectly playable.

That pretty much explains everything. I think everyone can agree that the wii kind of screwed up motion control in some games, and I can imagine Metroid being one of 'em. If you ever get the chance, try getting your hands on a gamecube version. An actual controller really is the best way to go in this case.

Doom

Doom2

Wolfenstein 3D

Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Duke Nukem 3D

Shadow Warrior (remake)

Blood

Tribes

Halo

Call of Duty 4

Fallout 3

Fallout New Vegas

Farcry 3

Killzone

Condemned Criminal Origins

Portal

Half-Life (and both expansions)

Half-Life 2

I'm probably forgetting a bunch, but this is mostly my list. I'm leaving out TF2 because I currently don't like the game. Killing Floor isn't there either because I got bored of it years ago. I've noticed that Serious Sam made a lot of lists, but I've never liked the format; that goes for Painkiller as well. I just find those games really boring.

okay, I've been trying to get one for years. But have been unable to.

  • Team Fortress 2
  • Portal 2
  • Killing Floor
  • L4D both 1 and 2
  • Halo
  • Metriod prime (all of them)

I really don't care what people say; all Metroid Primes have huds and shows the weapon in the bottom right corner.  Therefore, I consider it a FPS.

metro barely has a HUD, it's only really there when you change weapons and stuff, and that's an FPS. Of course metroid prime is an FPS.

Hands down the best FPS of all time is Modern Warfare 2. No other game even comes close. MW3 and COD 4 are also amazing, but the rest of the COD series is pretty bad. Battlefield 3 comes second. Everything else is either too outdated or the mechanics are just terrible
