ggg-2 3,555 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 if Magical Mystery Cure is any indication, Pinkie Pie is vital to keeping the citizens of Ponyville happy and, as we see in Magical Mystery Cure, keep them from going at each other's throats. So how do you think they handle it and cope, when Pinkie goes on trips with her friends, in episodes such as Games Ponies Play and Trade Ya? Don't be a nerd. Join the herd! An Old Head 4,816 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 Probably pretty well, because they know that Pinkie will be back in no time at all. It's not like there's a premise of them losing their favourite party pony forever, she's just trotted off to another place for a while. With Magical Mystery Cure, their impression was that there'd be no way to fix something as grave as a pony losing her cutie mark. Like, that's a huge deal, the Elements of Harmony switched themselves around. They probably foresaw it being irreversible and then got depressed. The looks on their faces when she returned, though! Discordian 6,021 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 While Pinkie does seem to keep a certain mood I think the big thing about Magical Mystery Cure was that their lives were miserable because of the messed up weather and screwy economy due to certain essential ponies in the community having switched places such as Applejack and her farm (a huge source of income for Ponyville to be sure, as well as food.) and Fluttershy and animal control. Not to say Pinkie is totally unimportant but in that particular episode's case things were royally messed up anyway so when things got back to normal and Pinkie was back to her old self people were delighted and relieved.
Scootalove 10,692 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 I think that they handle it pretty well. Since their lives were miserable in Magical Mystery Cure, Pinkie Pie returning brightened up their day to get out of their rut. M'aiq the Liar 5,804 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 They replace her with lyra. As you can see from her performance during apple jack's key episode, lyra is a more silent, but still funny replacement for pinkie while she is gone. Or they were all just sad in MMC because the plot told them to, and if they didn't hasbro would sell them off to a Chinese food service. http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/vera-yeoman-r5921Muh pleb tier OC .http://mlpforums.com/blog/1663/entry-12477-pony-waifu-wedding-13-maiq-x-fleetfoot/ MLP forum's #1 Fleetfoot fan also married to fleetfoot <
Pastel 7,630 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 (edited) As long as she's not out of Ponyville too long, they'd be fine. But if her absence is prolonged, they might start losing their joy and happiness... Edited April 22, 2014 by Blobulle

This is something that bugs me about the show and much of Pinkie's presence: Too much of the story in episodes is dependent on plot device after plot device whether it fits in with the overall world or personalities of the ponies. Pinkie herself is a victim of this sort of writing so she comes across as a shallow character.
Singe 2,111 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 Ponyville is a rural town. Just like most small towns, they tend to be simple and have little in the way of entertainment. A big city would have more options in the way of entertainment.
Cassafrass 249 April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 Well, that's just the thing... it seems kinda weird that the citizens seem like they have to have Pinkie to be "normal"... I mean, I know this wouldn't happen cuz it's a tv show, but what if Pinkie died or something? Would the whole town just... go out of control because of this? I think that her role is to keep things orderly by having the ponies be happy and stuff, but... I dunno, its just kinda... crazy imo. ^^;

Ribbonfree 2,384 April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 I think MMM might be an exception though, because if you think about it, a lot is groing wrong for Ponyville with everyone having the wrong skill. The weather is messed up, the animals are unruly because no caretaker Fluttershy, the food sucks because no farmer AJ, the clothes suck because no designer Rarity, etc. It was probably that so much has gone wrong that the ponies of Ponyville are just generally fed up enough to really desperately need entertainment from Pinkie. In most circumstances they could probably cope without Pinkie, just probably a little duller and more uptight. I mean the ponies of Ponyville do seem to be a bit more lax than other cities, and Pinkie is probably a big reason behind that.
ghostfacekiller39 23,879 April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 (edited) I think her role, along with every other pony in the show, is to grovel down before Rarity's greatness and accept fabulousity as their new religion. Also, she's the jester of Ponyville She keeps people entertained, just like AJ provides food, Rarity provides fabulousity/best pony/greatness/clothes, Twilight provides alicorn, RD provides boasting clouds/weather-type-stuff, and Fluttershy provides animal care Edited April 23, 2014 by ghostfacekiller39 1 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! cider float 2,539 December 21, 2015 Share December 21, 2015 It's just the town is laid out that way as if the mane five were that way for a set period of time with how badly the mane five did their switched jobs sort of seeped into making every pony in Ponyville somewhat miserable.
