searching The Tyranny of Princess Cadence - (Full)

Well, in the last RP, if I recall correctly, although we had three factions, each character was able to post their own thoughts and actions and what not, as long as they pertained to what the "leader" of each faction said was happening. (Just recalling)

So, i reckon I'm up for both, I'm fine with each one

That is true, of course there were those ponies who I shall not name who made a mockery of the entire thing and pretty much threw us out of everything.

It's looking like we're sticking with the original plan, I don't think Dovashy or ConfusedUnicorn's votes will make much difference given the sway towards two sided or indifferent, i'm happy with that - however if it turns out that the extra votes DO change the outcome, then we'll work with that, too.

I'll get this RP started when I wake up tomorrow, then - I have a rough draft typed up on word so i'll scan over that and see what I can bring up from it.

Just to be clear:

1) The stat and die system has been completely removed. Really it would just make things awkward and difficult for no reason, we're a good group and I trust most of you to be able to make your own decisions and actions within the boundaries of reason.

2) Lucy would you be willing to play either princess Luna or Celestia as your faction's "boss"?

We really don't need them both, but if you would like to play them both then that's fine, just so long as your group has a directive as to where they need to be headed and why.

3) I will be controlling Stoic and princess Cadence as well as the Crystal Onyx, other city guards are free to be controlled by anyone of the same faction in standard (non-combat) interactions.

4) As it stands right now we have no rebellion ponies, so I will be leaving the OOC open to recruitment for a while, after a couple of days have passed, i'll close recruitment and i'll open up a spot for secondary characters.

5) Alex, if you wouldn't mind, I would like you to control the Sanctum of the Sun ponies. They are, as i'm sure you are aware, only to be used in order to forward the plot when necessary. They will stay out of player-combat, but can be used in combat "scenes" with NPCs.

6) Canterlot has no military forces - this is to say, their Elite units are the only NPCs you will begin the journey with - there is nothing stopping you from recruiting militia (etc) on the way to your goal (within reason).

7) You are storming an empire, Canterlot - You will NOT be able to march in through the front doors like a team of super-badasses - we ARE waiting for you.

8) No cannon ponies unless they are brought in by a GM - I cannot stress this enough!

9) Anyone who has played WoW (or any MMORPG really) will understand. The guards are guards (elites), they can fight and they will be more than capable of holding off rabble (trash mobs), however the player controlled ponies will prove a challenge for the guards, if not being able to best them 1v1. Other players are precisely that - most will be on some sort of par with their skill level, so keep it fair.

10) No ranged weapons (exceptions apply within reason - such as taking a crossbow and ammo from a town you might raid/stop by for help), no making up plot points, no being totally outlandish with your ideas without first at least clearing them with a GM.

Overall though guys, thanks for joining us, have fun and I look forward to starting this RP.

Considering we go for the 2 Sides style, yeah, I'll be using Sanguine. If we go for the other, 1 sided style, I have a character in mind, who I will post a thing for if that becomes necessary.

I could join if there is any more room. If not, i'm fine with sticking out on this one. I would obviously join the Canterlot Side with Arcane (link in descri-... you know where to find it). He already does top level research work for Canterlot, so might as well have him help out with gear and such. Tactical Engineer perhaps?

@@00Pony,@,

Considering there have been no more votes, i'm thinking that we should stick with the 2-sided RP as originally planned. That seems to be the majority favourite, (and personally it would mean less work for me :D) so i'm more than happy to allow Sanguine back into his old ruts.

PWD, there's one last spot available in Canterlot that you have just filled, welcome to the team.

The only thing i'm a little concerned about is not making him too OP. We had an incident in the last boot of this RP that i'd rather not talk about, but involved a certain member of the resistance being stupidly OP and attempting to justify his acts with the "he's a unicorn" argument...

So, if there's anything major that you want to bring into your team that would be a large-scale game-changer, i'd have to ask that you clear it with myself and Pripyat Pony first - but i've been around enough RP's with you to know that you generally only attempt to do what's best for the RP as a whole *cough*PoisoningQuipInEventide*cough*

@@Torrent505

Also we had a new potential candidate message me personally, and I have accepted his character to start leading the rebellion into action!

Emery Egress is the applicant, a Rat-man like character who lives in the tunnels below the Crystal Empire.

Again, here we had an issue before with the rebellion, there's a lot of responsibility on your shoulders Torrent, to make sure you don't overstep the mark.

One example I can think of that really bugged me before was when the rebellion had their unicorn teleport the group directly inside Cadence's castle and expected no resistance.

Also as far as your character's teleporting power spreads, I would like to ask that you keep it to the tunnels - you may channel your ability into the crystals to teleport you around the tunnels, but at the start of the RP* you will not be allowed to teleport above ground using that system.

*you may possibly discover something during your scouting missions that will allow you to spread your teleportation powers further in the later RP.

Thanks Agent (just realized our user names end the same. Kind of hilarious) I'm happy to get approved and think this will be a really cool RP.

Anyways, my character is Emery Egress: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/emery-egress-r6511

As for Emery's gate power I wasn't planing on having it be able to reach further than a city block anyways. Though I guess he could just constantly keep moving by opening gate after gate. No worries about breaking the RP though I'll say the crystals on the surface are a different frequency or something and his magic doesn't work normally on them. Later at your digression maybe he'll figure it out, you can just let me know.

As much as i'd like to accept another member of the rebellion, i'm afraid I can't accept this character.

He's very much a Gary Sue, meaning he doesn't seem to be showing any real down sides - I would like to see something of a disadvantage given to him as well as a more well thought out backstory - check any of the approved ponies for examples of this.

Also the rules state ponies and zebras only, bat ponies are not included in this, i'm sorry.

*cough*PoisoningQuipInEventide*cough*

I only half remember that. I remember doing it, but i don't remember what the roleplay was about. Anyway.

As for not making him too OP, hopefully the following should be a good overview.

Pros:
Good at machines/devices
Slightly above average magic capability

Good at planning

Cons:
Takes lots of time to think

Knows very little offensive magic (can also be a pro)
Not trained for combat

Should that be balanced enough?

Works enough for me, thanks.

As for the RP itself, i'm about to make it live!

Remember the rules at all times, mainly no godmodding, keep it clean and respect your fellow RP'ers, but above all, have fun!

And with this the RP is live.

I have the Crystal Empire stage set, it's free for anyone to post whatever they like for the other teams.

I would suggest Canterlot's first goal be meeting with the Princesses and being informed of the severity of the situation (with Pripyat Pony leading the Princesses of course) before being sent on their long and arduous trek to the Crystal Empire.

As for the rebellion, I think the best course of action you could take would be to set your own scene and use your Shadows to full advantage, giving you a better "team" setting.

Of course you're both welcome to go ahead and do your own thing if you think of a better idea.

So I'm ready to make my first post but I don't precisely understand the Shadow of a Doubt ability. It sounds very cool and useful, I just wanted a little more clarification on what it is, what the shadows are like, and what they can and can't do. I'd rather not make them into something they're not supposed to be.

@@Torrent505,

Essentially the Shadows are other ponies in your faction.

You have "two each" that you can characterise how you see fit, give them names, personalities, whatever.

What they're there for is to progress the plot when there is no other way - I don't see that being much of an issue in the RP at all, but just in case they're there.

What you can do with them is anything you want, control them as characters of your own, you can talk with them and such, maybe send them out to gather information and spy on guards - you don't need to detail this, but inform the RP of what is happening "The Shadow took off down the alleyway as instructed, lying in wait for the next passing guard patrol they could follow in order to hopefully eavesdrop some information from them" for example. Then i'll message you with some information they might have discovered, and you can have them return to you with said information.

They wont really do much fighting, as said in their description, but they're good spies and smugglers - within reason you can use them to do either of those two things - or just have a "casual chat" with in order to post something if you just want to post for the sake of it, I suppose :P

Nice :P I like that better than what I was thinking; with the flavor text for it I thought they might actually be shadow pony made from strange magics or something haha

So the other question I have is: are there any pockets or holdouts of civilians underground that are hiding from Cadence's rule? Or am I one of the last free citizens struggling to remain free and find others to join me? I'm fine either way.

The two shadow's I've created are:

My spy Crystal Calling, a crystal unicorn filly just old enough to have her cutie mark. She's a sapphire blue with a lighter blue mane. Mischievous and rather annoying to Emery; she has a talent for blending into her surroundings and hiding. Her cutie mark is a large diamond that given her crystal coat it often blends in and leaves many thinking she is a blank flank.

My smuggler Zyndeen, a zebra stallion (since you're allowing zebras and Celestia's team has half zebras already I figured a zebra as my outside man would be good :) ) he is the leader of a traveling caravan that took notice of the Empires plight and has since taken to sneaking in supplies though Emery has no idea how he manages to do what he does.

Sound good?

Sound good enough to me, like I said they're not full blown characters, just tools to move the plot along when needed who can be used to your advantage within reason.

(Just don't go abusing them, smuggling in swords and full plate armour from who-knows where right before you plan your attack, etc. Make it believeable)

I'll be honest, i've never really thought about that.

I suppose it's likely there may be one or two scattered around, but the tunnels are hidden enough that even Cadence is only suspicious of them and hasn't bothered to send down a full guard contingent to wipe out all existing life down there yet. Take that how you will. I wouldn't say there'd be an overly-packed number of civilians down there, but it's entirely likely there may be a family or two, yes.

@@DarkSonic1221,

Well he's certainly a better applicant than your last OC, let me see here...

In his backstory, where is "here"? You mention he found himself "here" but no mention as to where that actually...is...?

While the character seems to lack detail, you at least mention pretty much everything important, I suppose there's no harm in giving yourself a little wriggle room.

Since you're new to RP'ing, i'll give you a chance on two conditions.

1) Make your posts believable - pace yourself, set your character's scene, give him some patient interaction with the other ponies (Torrent looking like your main guy when he posts) and don't call them out and not give them chance to reply, what i'm saying is; don't try and cram too much story into one post. Immersion makes the RP, not quantity of action.

2) Commas, man, try and use some commas! I was reading your OC's backstory in my head and I was short on breath.

Promise me you'll work on those two, and I can accept you on trial - don't make me regret it.

@,

As an example, passing time is the most likely thing they'd be doing - if they're loyal to Cadence they're likely to patrol the city looking out for anything suspicious, maybe they might even be stealing from the civilians to line their own pockets.

They could be overseeing production of wheat at one of the farms, making sure the workers are hard at work to supply the empire, or the blacksmiths are making enough weapons and armour.

Or maybe that's not their thing, maybe they're more likely to sympathise with the other ponies around the empire, maybe sneaking them some extra food for all their hard work.

If none of that tickles your fancy, you could be in the training grounds training some of the empire's soldiers, if that's more your character's thing. All of princess Cadence's team are aware of each other, having been a part of the same military for some time, they all rank moderately highly within.

If it pleases the court, might it be easier for me to initiate your first posts by having someone send for you?

It wont be for any RP important reasons, just something for you to be able to easily settle in with posting.
