I don't generally think that this whole high-school situation was brought up to to satisfy a particular age group. The creaters needed a plausible scenario, where teenage girls (The age derived from the behaviour of the mlp characters) could fit in. School, or any education board is one of the key factors for adolecents, with them spending several years going through it. Since MLP focuses on addressing human scenarios anyway, such as social structure and the relationship bewteen given individuals, school is a rather appropriate option, as all of these topics are present. I.e., lots of teenagers in one building. Plus, why can't guys watch shows about social integration?

I got inspired to draw a few profile pictures, plus I needed to try and avoid using too much colour blending. I hope you like it ^-^

What you're ashamed of, proud of, and proud of *not* being.
Klick-Klack replied to AstralDrip's topic in General Discussion
What I'm ashamed of... well, you could just imagine a vague statement for yourself regarding aspects like motivation, inspiration, social cometence etc. Quite a standard issue answer I know, and it applies to most people. But the wording highlights the individuality in that sense, so there you go. I'm not really proud of anything much, I don't really think too highly of pride as a concept, it seems to spark alot of turmoil. Sure, we all like to think highly of ourselves occasionly and to mask it as an honest self reflection to ward off any who might accuse you of being self-righteous, however I don't think it should be required to state ones pride in oneself, as since the scource (yourself) is so baised, you might aswell just ask "what do you like about yourself". Although a counterbalance has been added to the questions of the thread, I.e what are you ashamed of, which of course is why the answers are a) typical= "I'm shy, I'm lazy, I'm judgemental at times" or b ) innocent, or rather "the kind of things that no-one could truly judge me for, as they are abundent in the history of most people." Because, no-one is ever going to supply a confession or something they dislike about themselves that could be considered, from an objective standpoint, to be truly absurd. (For example, a persons shame that they drank frog spawn for the first 10 years of their life.) It seems that people like to say personal things about themselves online and feel noticed when another person bro-hoofs the post, as the "fault" which the person is ashamed of is present in the vast majority of people living in 1st world societies. Like a temporary satisfaction which diminishes after a few seconds, it's an annoying knack for attention. Imagine a social network which disabled any evindence of someone barely viewing the post... something that humans wouldn't programm. I don't understand... why do we write what we personally like or dislike about ourselves to people we don't know? Just because we're both bronies, doesn't really mean we ought to instantly trust each other... although then again, the internet does provide some serious anonymity which can be used as a confession medium.... geez, this is getting to be such gang activity.... So all in all, since this thread isn't very honest, I don't think it's necessary to reply with an honest answer: <--- end of rant, please don't hurt me. ;.; -
Thanks for the comments, I feel as if my pictures are the few things I can do for the community, so I'm glad that you like them I used paint tool Sai, it's extremely useful ^^

What is something that has scarred you?
Klick-Klack replied to Kitty Cat Moonshire's topic in General Discussion
It's very normal to be afraid of the dark, and in fact quite healthy. It's part of your defense system to fear not the dark, but what the dark could potentially hide. -
Hey I know! Let's all complain about these things, that'll make everything better^^ lol jk, but seriously. I'm a cynical bore, a hypocrite, and very self-righteous, so it's probably a good idea to ignore anything I write, but: what I would think is that I hate it when bronies use mlp to define ideal mentalities and personal characteristics for themselves. Things like, "Love and Tolerate." One person already wrote that is is not the same as blind acceptance, but really? Is that really so? I would have to ask when the line is drawn. I understand the idea behind the concept, in fact it's noble in its image, however it backfires. No-doubt you've heard this before, but the point still stands strong, at least in my mind: "If as a community we are to love and tolerate, then surely we do not bind parameters the concept, otherwise it fails as a universal concept, thus destroying its right to be the ideology of a (or our) community. (which of course is another sign of gang activity, installing social values unto its members for them to be identified as part of the fandom) however, if we do not bind parameters, we must love and tolerate any given social activities or personalities. Which includes of course racism, sexism, and homophobia. This is why I will never always love and tolerate. Mainly because, saying I always will would suggest I should succumb to tolerating things like child abuse. But then again, we can always cast the idea in a bright light, thinking of sunshine and happiness with bright pastel ponies etc etc. But these things should not make us change our moral signitures, as the mentalities expressed in the show are, with very few exceptions, barely identifiable in our societies.(The reason is that they are crafted out of a large collection of human values and cliche personalities, which in combination are not present in our world) <-- end of rant. Please don't hurt me
-
Well, from one perspective, humans are already in the show, just not physically. The world of Equestria is based entirely off our own planet, the personalities are based entirely off human ones. The ponies here express a characteristic that partially defines us humans to be unique amongst all other animals on our planet: Not only the use of tools, but the use of tools to craft more advanced tools. These things, along with houses with thatched roofs just like on the right on the bg for example, are all very human. We only have what we see to work with, which is also why it's impossible to imagine a new colour. More to the point, I don't really think that adding humans is such a bad idea. There are very negative feelings floating around, like "I watch mlp to escape from the real world" however like I said before, watching mlp is basically watching a earth with a slightly different tone. Even the simple things, like clouds. why are there clouds in equestria? why need them? surely a magical world could just make plants that don't need water. But again, why should plants need water in equestria? etc etc Ok, I really have to stop rambling like this sorry guys

My parents accept it without question, they don't generally question the things I like doing, as long as it's legal and doesn't hinder my studies. My friends all think its cool that I like the show, and they also see why its gotten popular. It's a wonderful atmosphere here... and I'm sorry so many have to fear their own parents...

Sorry if this is personal to you but, do you have a short attention span? I read about a recent study into hypnotism that showed that people with shorter attention spans are statistically more difficult to hypnotise... None of these work for me, either. I find them quite contradictory, as they require you to "completely relax", but at the same time, focus on instructions. When I relax, I zone out, and never pay attention. I apperently have a very short attention span, according to the psychiatrists I've been to, in pair with ADD. It's a shame, because I want these to work, but they just don't. I find it creepy to read all these responses claiming it worked, and how they felt hooves etc... -
movies/tv I dare you to post/watch the most saddest, "so many feels" videos here!
Klick-Klack replied to Dinky Doodle's topic in Media Discussion
This hasn't got much to do with mlp, but is still very depressing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9aHT-IlkHo It is quite long, but it serves primarily as a cautionary tale, trying to warn the public about the threat of nuclear war and the incompetence of the government -
That sounds interesting. You do know why other animals also eat meat right? Meat does not shorten our lifespans, nor add stress to our digestion, quite simply because we would not have adapted to eat meat if that was the case. At some point, a few million years ago, the ancestors who consumed other organisms won an important battle, that of survival. It was beneficial to eat meat, and naturally, the beings most efficient at digesting the meat, absorbing all of the nutrients, would survive over the beings that didn't. The genes carried on. You have canine teeth.(yes, not as many as carnivores, but thats because we're omnivores.) You have lost the ability to use your appendix, etc. Humans are perfectly capable of digesting meat efficiently. Otherwise, we wouldn't have adapted to eat it. This "meat is murder" lark is not a sign of people trying to overcome some sort of fundemental "evilness" applied to humans by humans, but rather a bunch of people trying to adjust their social reputation. Think about it. Would you become a vegan if you were never ever, under any circumstances allowed to display it and tell people about it? No. it's all about telling people. It's about your image. you are genetically programmed to care about what others think of you, because, its a survival instinct. To work succesfully in a group, you must establish your image and person in order to maintain trust,= cooperation.

I wasn't rying to show dissrespect, its just I think that people shouldn't claim she was an amazing politician and a true idol just because she died, because she simply wasn't. At least in my opinion. It's like with michael jackson, the second he died, the media marketed off his image, and everybody claimed how much they loved him....
-
Well it's a shame she died, just like any death. I know this is an "R.I.P" thread, which generally will dismiss any negative input, but Thatcher was an extreme right wing conservative, who dissabled britain by shutting down its steel industry, putting thousands out of work. I don't know of any of this "saving the economy" tripe, because she's the one who destroyed it in the first place. Thatcher was famous for saying that the steel industry is old fashioned, and that Britains economy ought to rest on financial services, which is understandable of course, since her husband was a banker. Britain went down the drain, because the workers behind the financial services did not recquire high qualifications. Therefore, any British company willing to hire people to sell their products over the phone simply hired whoever could be payed the least. So therefore, huge amounts of working forces were hired from south-east asia, as they worked for next to nothing back then, meaning lasting unemployment in the UK. The problem Thatcher had was that she always thought that if someone wanted financial service, they would look for British services. Which didn't happen. But it did give the bankers more power, which of course was a benefit for her own husband. But you know, all the respect, shame that she died. R.I.P

Of course not. You don't have to agree with anything I said if you don't want to. Technically, nobody has the right to claim ultimate knowledge regarding the topic anyway. And trusting someone only because of a degree is submitting to the argument from authority. So no, don't take my word for it, I'm no mastermind.
-
I study psychology, I don't yet have a degree in it, but I thought these things would be general knowledge. The basic principles of up-bringing should be an important part of information distribution. Mind, the cause of violence in relation to up-bringing is not the sole reason behind abuse. There are indeed other factors as hand, primarily enviromental scenarios, and of course mental health.
-
You insist on insinuating that the abuser has made a conscious choice to abuse their child, thinking "Since my daddy did that to me, I'll do it to my child!". No. It's not conscious. The abuser having being brought up with violence for example, has learned from his/her experience that violence is natural and normal. The child will take the actions of the parents as an example of how life is lived, and if the parents hit the child, the child will then learn that parents hit their child. Then it becomes normal. And these things you learn at an early age, such as language or the trust of a parent, are not easily forgotten. In fact, it's been a survival advantage for millions of years. So the abuser does what he or she does, not because they find it amusing, but because the impression of violence has been hammered into their brain from an early age. And the laws of society are not capable of efficiently swaying the mindset.
-
Oh? Backed by which statistics? Plus, I know it isn't awlays the case. But that does not give us the right to treat them all equally. Like mindless scum. DJ Luna up their even mentioned torturing them. I mean, this is despicable, Why, oh why would torturing them, putting them through agony make anything better? I 'll tell you. Because so many people get so emotionly upset at the topic, and the anger engulfs rationality. Partially the reason why the abuse is done in the first place. Half the people here just want to see the abusers suffer even more that the child did, regardless of wether they did it "for fun" or not. (btw, even that counts as mental instability, which therefore means they don't have a choice)
-
Well, there are perhaps more sides to it. (Please don't jump down my throat, I'm not saying that the abusive action is by any means "good", I personally hate it) We can't really just say that no matter what the situation is, the abuser is always at fault, and they should die/suffer greatly. What most forget is that these people have been suffering quite a lot in the first place in order to let out their anger on someone/thing smaller and more vulnerable. In a fit of rage, when a parent assualts their child, how much sanity do you guys think is present? We've all been there at one point. When you are just so furious about something, to the extent that you lose the concept of sanity and rationality. When you want to punch someone no matter what, you don't care about the consequences, you don't balance the factors of right and wrong, you don't forsee situations coming, and the reasons why you are upset. You just want to hit that person. The immediate present, nothing else seems to matter. Afterwards, you might feel terrible. What was I thinking? Why was I so stupid? You've been given time to recharge your rational hemisphere, realising just how stupid or unjustified your action was. You feel guilty, ashamed., heartbroken. You would honestly like to apologise to that person, to try and repair everything. But it's awkward. How do you show your face? How would you express yourself? Just at this moment, the bell rings. Two large men. You get punched hard in the diaphragm. Kicked down, broken nose, teeth shattered. You're left lying there in your own blood. No help, no forgiveness. This is not how we should deal with the problem. It can be hard to fathom, but we can't say that all abusers are just mindless soulless heartless freaks. Maybe 3 out of 10 of them actually hate what they're doing. But they can't stop. It could be an anger issue. Mental breakdown, enviromental factors. They are not the person they thought they were. Now they've shattered their relationship with their child, ruined both of their lives. But you can't ask someone that young for forgivness, for they don't understand. And then, in come the violence threats. Even from a community based off the principles "Love and tolerate". Because, you know, a good punch solves everything, right? -.- And the child? Yes, it's tragic. I feel quite bad saying this, but I think it's simply bad luck to be born into this situation. This is also why I think I child should go painlessly, before it even has a brain, instead of being treated horribly in a poor enviroment. (Please don't hurt me, it's just my opinion )

Non Believer? Of what? The christian god? any god? if so, you are atheist. You don't beleive or accept a god. That's the core definition. Many people dislike being called atheist because the "group" has quite the reputation, and in social situations, where belief is questioned, people who actually don't beleive in a god will not say they're atheist, because they don't want to be placed in an extreme position around others who are not. This is conformity, a survival instinct. If the majority of an interacting social group is christian, then an individual when asked will probably not admit to being in the complete opposite view, but rather claim to be to be in an ensurance area, a safe point where he/she is safe from potential flames initially aimed at atheists, such as saying "I'm not a believer, but I'm not athiest". But you see the problem here right? "I'm not a theist, but I'm a devout catholic".
-
Well, it's kinda inevitable. I personally think that character in design should be portrayed either via physical attributes, such as unique manes ect. as opposed to accessories. Sometimes a body image is simply not enough to claim a character. My OC could not be defined with just his body. I have to draw his actions/creations to display his true self. This maybe could be the reason why people apply so many accessories/bright vibrant colours to their OCs. Trying to fill in all their uniqueness(is that a word?) in one body. And then again, you have people clothing their OCs in modern human combat gear with a m4a1 strapped to their side -.-
