  1. I think alicorn OC's are fine, if you're the type of person who knows how to actually write characters, and write them well. Conversely, I don't think alicorn OC's are okay, if you're not the kind of person who actually knows how to write characters, and write them well. But then, those people shouldn't really be writing about any types of characters; earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi... I think when it comes to alicorn OC's, people tend to stick the blame in the wrong place, and its amazingly tragic how that happens. We see a bright neon colored red and black alicorn, with three cutie marks and five horns, and people somehow manage to go "Hey look, that alicorn is terrible! That means that all alicorns must be terrible!" ...See, when I go to a restaurant, and I order a hamburger, and the hamburger they give me is terrible, I tend to just not go to that restaurant again, and I try a different one. I don't immeadietly declare that all hamburgers are trash, and then never go to a single restaurant again. Same with computers, pictures, music... Because, in a statement that should be obvious circa 2016, you can't assign the attributes or workings of an individual to those of the whole. "Some" alicorn OC's are bad? Sure. "Most" alicorn OC's are bad? Fine; go with that, if you want. Even "I haven't seen a good alicorn OC yet" is a perfectly acceptable and valid statement, should you want to use that. But "all alicorn OC's are bad" just makes me wonder how you somehow managed to find the foresight to look at every single alicorn OC that ever existed, judge them all by a similar, fair set of criteria, and then fail each and every one of them on that aforementioned criteria. ...And maybe someone can do that. If so, great; post me some charts and evidence, so I can get a good grasp of how deep the problem really is. But until then, hold the generalizations; it's not all alicorns faults that people just judge them all off-hand to be terrible characters. It's theirs, for being so close-minded to begin with.
  2. @Tacoma "Given the current stress of the situation, no doubt you are weary." Luna still didn't turn around to face him, but instead flipped out one errant wing, pointing it in the direction of the bed. "As before, you may use my bed, until such time that a different one is available for you to use. I will warn my sister beforehoof, so that there are no accidents this time. If that is all, sleep well." She retracted her wing, before walking to the open door once again. ------- @J.R. "Before you, I used to do this with my friends. I say used to because its been quite a long time since we've done anything together. Bangcolt has kept us quite busy, in truth." She rolled her eyes up in thought. "Though, having uninterrupted time in order to put all of my things together has been pleasant, for the moment. Still, I miss them." She smiled to herself. "Still, I suppose that's just natural right?" She headed out of the shop's open door, and back onto the street. ------- @Star Saber "Then that just leaves me the days to savor until I get them, and stir this town up beyond recognition. Oh and of course, to see you again. You're quite fascinating, in truth." She smirked, before turning around to face the building's exit. "I'll be back later in order to pick them up. And doubtless, i'll be the one finding you. So..." She turned her head to the side, and flashed him a grin. "Don't worry about it."
  3. Do you think you can draw Nite Whisper? Bat pone. https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/nite-whisper-r9563
  4. When Raze rushed out of the fire, his stab would meet air. It had been a distraction, and Sunset Shimmer and the mare were already gone... The teleport re-opened up in the hospital, the two ponies appearing in a flash at the front desk. "This mare needs help!" Sunset Shimmer called out to the nurse ponies on waiting, who immeadietly summoned up a stretcher, carrying her away. The remaining pony, Nurse Redheart, shot her a hardened look. "There's a stallion, out on the loose, and I think he has it out for this mare. I didn't catch his name." Sunset Shimmer shook her head. "But he is dangerous. I recommend maximum security for her until she's back on her feet, and maybe guards thereafter. This is serious." A small piece of paper was conjured in the air in front of her, and she handed it to the mare. "Here. This is the name you want to send a message to if anything goes wrong." She turned, and began walking towards the door once again. "Wait." Nurse Redheart took a step forward, looking at her intently. "Yeah?" "...It's good to see you back, Sunset Shimmer." "...You too, Nurse Redheart." The two flashed equal smiles at each other, as Sunset Shimmer left the hospital. Her thoughts immeadietly drifted to stallion again... ------- @J.R. "Well..." Rarity put a single chin up to her hoof in thought. "I suppose that does make sense. And i'll have to thank you for mentioning it; it's been quite a long time since i've had a long rest. La Clochette's kept me so busy, you see." She finally gave a dismissive shrug, as she she pulled her seat away from the table. "Well thank you, Ice Blizzard; it's been quite the wonderful time here today."
  5. "And you still think this is a game." Sunset Shimmer shook her head once more, in disbelief. She slapped a hoof to her head, and groaned suddenly. "I...I don't have time for this! I'm sorry." With a quick flash of her horn, bright white fire erupted in a dome around Raze, closing him in. It also blocked his view of her, preventing him from seeing anything on the outside. Inside, the air temperature would jump through the ceiling from the flames, reaching several hundred degrees. The wooden floor wouldn't seem to burn, however, even in the heat. Instead, it shriveled, water being drawn out and flash evaporated from the everything enclosed within. And, as the effects continued, Raze would begin to suffer as well, growing weaker and eventually hallucinating from the resulting dehydration... --------- "I... think i'm full, actually. I was famished when I walked in, but honestly, it feels like i've eaten a ton." With magic, she subtly vaporized the five hayburger wrappers sitting on her tray, even as she lifted it up with her magic to go set it back on the tray. She looked back to Ice Blizzard. "I couldn't possibly eat any more."
  6. Sunset Shimmer didn't just say anything, though she did look over in brief concern when the stallion stabbed himself in the stomach. As soon as he retracted the, however, it fell again, to be replaced by the same stony expression again. She recognized a technique when she saw one. She paused, but she didn't waste a single moment afterward. Whirling around, she quickly cast two spells in succession, both headed for Raze's direction. The first: a teleport spell aimed for the unprotected hilt of his sword, with the intended goal of causing the hold to re-appear in the ceiling, absent the glowing blade. The second: a heat spell, intended to cause the blade itself to become red hot, much like the revolver before it. Attempting to touch it in such a state would be no different from touching molten iron. ------- @J.R. Rarity looked up from the diner's table, blinking softly to herself. Had she just missed something? "...Ice, I feel like..." She put her hoof to her mouth, thinking hard to herself. "I feel like we were just discussing something with someone. Someone important." She looked over at Ice Blizzard, a confused and helpless expression on her face. "Do you have the same feeling?"
  7. Sunset Shimmer slowed down as the bullets came past her, coming to a stop right outside the exit. She turned her head around sideways as she did, to fix him a look harder than dragon scales, and colder than the frozen North. "I. Wasn't. Asking." Her horn flared for an instant, then fell silent. Across the room, Raze's revolver would begin to glow a solid red as the heat spell took effect, then start to melt, starting with the barrel first. Finally, it would burst into flames, pieces of the molten material dripping to the floor around him. "I've been personally trained by princess Celestia herself, and was top of my class at her school, for all of the years that i'd been there. Even been to the back sections of the Canterlot library to pore through the forbidden section, on more than one occasion. All of this to say, if you raise a weapon again... I won't be holding back."
  8. @Tacoma "...No." Luna eyed him with a look as serious as one she'd ever given. "Now that you know the true nature of the Nightmare, there is no use in keeping further things from you. But this is something I have to face alone..." She paused, rolling over a knowing look in his direction. "And do not worry; this is not an issue which I am only claiming to be able to solve, with no understanding of how to do so. Rather, it is an issue that I have put off for far too long." The look intensified, though it didn't seem to be aimed at Night Tracer anymore. "Do not worry. The Nightmare will not bother you again." ------- @Denim&Venom "As I said before, within the arena's dome itself, you'll find more receptionists, just like myself. They are the ones that process all of the information concerning the arena battles." She pointed out towards the door once again. "Largest building in Bangcolt, and an enormous dome; you can't miss it. As for the quarters, they're off to the side of the dome. An apartment style complex reserved only for competitors currently fighting in the arena. And all amenities there are free of charge." -------- "...I don't remember asking." The baroness would disappear from Raze's grip, even as the footsteps kept coming closer to him. The pony would appear moments later, the mare draped over her back protectively. She glared over at the stallion without an ounce of sympathy. "...And how dare you?" Sunset Shimmer shook her head as she stared at him in disbelief. "Not just assaulting a mare, but holding her here? Until what-she bleeds to death? Just so you can satisfy a whim?" She stopped shaking her head, giving a single sigh of disgust. She turned around the baroness still balanced on her back. "The guards station is just north of here, and the princesses quarters are just west. I'm telling you, because, if you had half a heart, you'd turn yourself in, for what you've done. But until then..." She shook her head once more, and let out a long, drawn sigh. "...Enjoy your life."
  9. Holy wow, that's incredible. Unique art style, neat design, and you somehow even managed to place the stars in, and still keep the design working; that's... just impressive. :-o Great job.
  10. A 4th of July pony? That actually sounds really cool; did you give them the old red, white and blue?
  11. Sky Soring
  12. @Denim&Venom "Winners are determined by knock-out, or by reasonable incapacitation. Fights to the death are not allowed, and anyone who is found using lethal methods in order to do will forfeit the match automatically." She responded quickly, from experience based on months of doling out this information. "The princesses and other such prestigious and powerful ponies will be on standby, to make sure that the rules are being upheld." She looked back at the mare as she finished. "Is there anything else?" -------- "...I should've known something was up when I saw all of the activity on the rooftops. Blood mist isn't something that's exactly normal, after all." The voice came from the opposite end of the room as Raze, feminine in tone. It paused. "...I'm just surprised that nopony else did anything, seeing you attempt to murder an innocent mare on the streets. I guess it's just par for the course. But still... it makes sad inside. Things sure have changed since I was gone." The voice paused again. "...But that's aside the point. What is important is that that mare needs to go to the hospital, and you're going to let her go. Whatever happens to you, happens; that's my only favor to you. Somepony like you should be in prison." The padding of steps could be heard as the pony walked out of the darkness... ------- @Tacoma "...Those must be earned, Night Tracer." The look she gave him was as expressionless as it had been before. "Though, I will say that your presence here is not unwelcome, nor was your absence passed over." She stepped away from Night Tracer, and turned to face him. "But before anything, we must attend business. And I distinctly remembering you mentioning a Nightmare..."
  13. @Tacoma Luna had paused for the longest of times, eyes concentrated intently on Night Tracer's words and mannerisms. She hadn't said a word in response, nor moved, except to throw a single wing around Night Tracer as he'd clung sobbing to her neck. Now, she stood looking down at him silently. "...Night Tracer. Your words are concerning. I fear that there is a great deal we have to talk about, for these are events that could eventually grow to trouble Equestria. And then, there is us." She pulled away from Night Tracer gently but firmly, until she could look directly at him. "These are the words in which you used before, where you swore to me that you'd never leave. And yet, leave you did, despite the circumstances. Leaving me no ability to trust you, save one." She looked at him piercingly. "...That you came back. Despite the current circumstances, and whatever possible risk to your life you've incurred, the fact remains that you are here now, when you had no reason to do so. And such is the tiny weight with which I am willing to trust and accept your return now." She took a step around him, until her tail was at length with his side, and could brush up against it. She looked back at him. "We will accept you back into our lives, Night Tracer, but know who you are, and where you stand currently. From this moment on, to some far distant future. It will be your actions that dictate what transpires between us, and not your words." Luna closed her eyes once again. "I beg you, step wisely." @Denim&Venom "Umm... there is,actually." The mare had paused in thought, but then looked back up to speak. "That would also be done via the arena. As I said it before, it's the massive done in the center of town: you can't possibly miss it once you see it..." The mare bit her lip, obviously thinking about something. "Umm... but are you are that's what you want to do? There are no small shortage of...characters in Bangcolt. And challenging every one of them could be quite the dangerous affair."
  14. That is some beautiful artwork. Please grace my tiny character with your magnificent crafting skills. https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/ivory-star-r9559 (If you desire the information on the front page)
  15. @Tacoma "Night Tracer." Luna said the words with an absolute calm, as she stared at the stallion without expression. "It has been a long time." She closed her eyes, as if she were suddenly imagining something far off and distant. "When we last met, I showed you the moon, and the stars. Promises were made, and if not, then at least an understanding had been reached. Or so I thought." She opened her eyes, looking at him with the same radiating calm as before. "No apologies need be made; no offense has been committed. It seems you were just not who either of us thought you were." She brushed off by him smoothly, heading towards her nightstand. ------- @Denim&Venom "Oh, right. I apologize." The mare flashed the briefest of apologetic smiles, before continuing. "Challenges are given by special request, by those who sign up for it in the arena. There will be attendants inside who will take any requests that you order, process it, and then sign it down onto a special sheet. Then, in a manner similar to dragonfire, the message is sent shooting off across the city of Bangcolt, to arrive in the hooves of whoever the challenge was designated for. W e've found this to be the most efficient strategy thus far, ensuring near immediate responses between those who wish to fight." She paused, to give the mare room to speak. "Did you understand that?"
  16. Oh, she looks absolutely adorable. And i'll be good to her, I promise!
  17. @Denim&Venom "Why yes, this is the registration desk. This..." The mare behind the desk hadn't quite looked up yet, busy printing very delicate information onto a list via quill. When she finally did, she fell silent, staring at the mare across from her for a moment. She had seen no fair share of strange things working at the desk at Bangcolt - all of the registration staff members had- but she had to admit this one was new, even for her. Still, nothing too odd, she thought, as she cleared her throat, reforming her composure. "...This is where fighters sign in, in order to be entered into the tournament. If you're not registering, you may go through those doors, and immeadietly exit into the city." She pointed a hoof to the door a little off to the side and behind her, beyond her desk. "If you are, then that means you'll be here with me. Write down your name on this list..." Using her magic, she drew up the appropriate sheet of paper, and laid it out on the desk in front of the mare. "And there-afterwards, you'll receive a special dog tag, signifying that you're one of Bangcolt's tournament contestants. Special benefits come with this as well; fighters receive free housing in the form of the fighters quarters, located nearest here. You'll also be able to dine or use any other one of the public facilities free of charge, unless otherwise stated. One of the benefits given for your courage in choosing to fight in the arena, and the money you'll be generating on fighting for this fair city." She smiled. "Anything else that I can help you with, before you continue?" ------- @Tacoma Luna''s ears perked up as she slept, at the distinct sound of a window being broken into. Her window, judging by the direction and volume of the noise. Along with a voice, and one that sounded familiar, she figured that somepony had just attempted to enter her room, and was now inside, with her. For that pony's sake, Luna thought, she hoped that they were familiar. "...So you've entered into the room of one of the royal sisters." Luna stood up, facing where she had last heard the voice extend from. The solid navy blue curtains draped around her bed prevented her from seeing outward, but she had a pretty good indication they were still out there. "An action which appeared to be no trouble to you." Her eyes closed, as she began to draw magic in, preparing for one of any number of intense combative spells that she had learned throughout the centuries. "The question is now, however, what will you do, now that you've found one?" Her tone dropped an octave, carrying a dangerous heir to it. "And now that they've found you?"
  18. Over at the table, Temperance caught sight of the stallion Copper Strikes waving at her, and waved back. The condescending tone couldn't be missed. Twilight certainly caught it, as she raised a single eyebrow at the filly's actions. Not to mention the fact that there was a filly in the competition, anyways. But she kept silent. She'd seen more than enough to know that appearances weren't anything to go by. And thinking otherwise could be dangerous. "Well... that's certainly interesting." She tilted her head slightly, then returned to looking at Copper Strikes. "Glad to know we have competitors of all shapes and sizes, here." ------- @reader8363 As Temperance finished waving at the stallion, another one passed by her. She watched as he casually popped a piece of jerky into his mouth, and waited until he finished before deciding to speak to him. "You should really try the pastries! They're delicious!" Her tone was bright and chipper, just like her smile. But under the surface, there seemed to be something surging. An overwhelming tone of superiority, and condescension...
  19. "Applejack..." Twilight paused, before giving a heavy sigh; she knew that once Applejack got like this, there was no convincing her otherwise. "...So. Copper Strikes. You got here before us, which means you must've been around already. Any other interesting contestants that you've seen, thus far?" ------- Temperance had still been at the snack table playing around with her flames, when she caught Fluttershy passing by some distance away from her. The flames disappeared, as she looked over in flat interest. She didn't approach. "So that's... "kindness." " She looked over at the mare, at least a head higher than her, and the dismissive stare intensified. "...I'm not impressed."
  20. "Well..." She stopped, thinking hard to herself. "Most typically, myths and conspiracies are just that; myths and conspiracies. They may be based on an ounce or two of truth, but most often, the stories are based on something simple, then blown way out of proportion. But, if you say you've somehow adopted this form..." She tilted her head to the side. "Then I suppose its real. Whether the legend is accurate or not, it's pretty obvious that your abilities are; i'd take that for what it is."
  21. It's energy. And just like everything that involves reactions to energy, or energy exchanges, these things can be judged, and judged well; whether it's MLP magic, or ki, or reiatsu, cosmic energy... And in this event, I say MLP magic, which is distinguishable from other magic in that the users actually take the energy from their own bodies in use for these spells. No wands, no potions, they don't pull it from the air; they are the direct conduits for their own magical processes, meaning any energy that is used for spells can be attributed to them. Twilight picks up an Ursa, or freezes an army, she's actually picking up an Ursa, or freezing an army, with her own energy. And in the case of the celestial sisters, the same thing applies. Just on a much larger scale. PLANTS as strong as Tirek? No. That's pretty ridiculous. But, by the same token, PLANTS as strong as Celestia and Luna, when we've seen what even the most bare minimum unicorns are capable of? What Twilight knew in season one being under Celestia's tuttelage, at the school that she personally founded. We saw Applejack slice through a vine much thicker than the one that grabbed Celestia; are we assuming that she's somehow weaker than Applejack? This one scene in particular not only doesn't make sense when you take it at face value, it actually proves my point; judging Celestia by lowball feats like the one above isn't an accurate way to judge her. You have to use her most consistent feats. Which is raising the sun and moon for a thousand years. Fun fact: despite a high majority of fights between all of these planet busters (and serious fights, I might add) occuring on Earth itself, the Earth itself in DBZ has only been destroyed a total of... once. (twice, if you count super). Other than that, it's mostly been just islands or mountain ranges being blown to shreds, which in itself ignores the law of proper energy exchange rates (where is the rest of it going?). And you could come up with an excuse to how it's compact energy, or they're holding back to try to conserve the planet (which goes against a high majority of the villains characters, but you could), but then you'd be on my level. Purely combative/ destructive feats are not always how you judge a characters abilities, nor is it always the best. Sort of irrelevant here, and pretty much contradicts everything about Twilight's Kingdom for various reasons, but a relevant image: Of all of the times Twilight has put on a "i'm going to be holding back now" face... this is not one of them.
  22. In comparison to other works of fiction like Marvel or DC, it's nothing. For Dragonball Z, comfortably god tier. Relative scaling. Floating around in space doesn't suddenly make everything weightless, and means nothing when you're actually hauling the sun around using your own energy. To do so, Celestia needs to have as much energy to move the sun as it would take to actually move the sun's energy; Newton's third law, and all. Planets are: Twilight owns a telescope, which would be pretty pointless if there was nothing up there but points in the sky. The stars are: Discord went to go have a party up there for quite some time, which, see above. So's the moon: Perspective from the moon in the show and comics show that it's the same size relative to our earth. And of course, I have evidence for all of this, available on request, but I also have a message from a writer stating that the sun is the same size as ours, so... Plotholes. Same reason why: > None of the unicorns/ alicorns couldn stop winter from descending on the Crystal Empire (The Crystalling), when just Rarity was able to alter the weather to the skyline in seconds (Magical Mystery Cure), and Luna did it subconsciously (Luna Eclipsed) >Twilight, despite being one of the most magically proficient ponies in the world, and an alicorn, somehow couldn't beat Starlight, whose magical talents only involve years practicing just one spell (The Cutie Re-mark). >Twilight's network of useful spells (ala transmorgification, Want it-Need it, etc.) all seem to disappear whenever trouble appears, along with the sonic Rainboom, Pinkie's bizarre speed and strength, etc. >Discord doesn't just snap his fingers and defeat every threat that the M6 have >Celestia and Luna lost to the same vines that were sheared by a thick window, the M6 defeated easily, etc. (Princess Twilight Sparkle) Writer's aren't really all that interested in examining pony physics or power scaling, it seems; doesn't mean we get to ignore the most relevant and consistent feats. If anything, that mean she should stick to those harder, since they happen to be some of the few things the writer's won't alter on a whim. Celestia moves the sun, Luna moves the moon; there's no argument there.
  23. Comparable how? If you mean in a fight: >Strong enough to scare the crap out of beings who casually move the sun and moon >Strong enough to absorb the power of a being who also scares the crap out of beings who casually move the sun and moon >Strong enough to go toe to toe with someone who absorbed both of those beings magical power, while still having their own (possibly equally as strong abilities) and another (also potentially as strong) being's magical power inside of them. So, considering you didn't include Super, Tirek wipes the list of DBZ villains, by himself.
