Most of the time if you don't have some cosmetic you're known as a 'noob' in-game. Which most of the time really boils people up. Buying a hat kinda shows you bought something and you're not a free2play player. (Which is typically, a noob.)
Don't worry about it! X3 I'm only advising you do for the sake of being called out for some dumb reason. Doesn't matter how you play, they most of the time just base it off your character's cosmetics.
