@Dark Qiviut @Tacodidra @Sparklefan1234
"Sounds of Silence" is an episode that gets better and better upon rewatch. In fact, I think it's replaced "What Lies Beneath" as my favorite episode of Season 8.
-
@Tacodidra I agree! My only complaint with Sounds of Silence was that I honestly wish I different pair up of the mane six was chosen, I mean, gosh, we've been waiting for a solo FlutterPie episode forever, yet they chose a pair we've already seen go on a map quest.
What Lies Beneath was pretty good, I only wish it was a two parter. Think of how much could have been done with that!

Here's something interesting I found when I averaged the score of each episode and each Season:
Season 1 Average: 79% Season 5 Average: 83.7%
Season 2 Average: 80% Season 6 Average: 82.1%
Season 3 Average: 75% Season 7 Average: 82.2%
Season 4 Average: 84.1% Season 8 Average: 81.3%.
Ironically, that's what I would give each Season.
-
Care to participate in the other polls?
-
@TheAnimationFana I would give season 7 a 4/5.
-
Also, I changed "Very Good" to "Good, Not Great."
-
@Sparklefan1234 My Season 8 poll is up!
-
Hmm, everyone's a critic... /S.

The comedy in "Hard to Say Anything" does nothing for me; additionally, I find the story to be contrived (why would Big Mac follow along with the CMCs' plots for no reason? Why are the CMC behaving akin to their S1 personalities? Why does the final conflict transform into a cliched 'dueling suitors' plotline with a shallow Bieber stereotype?) and not much of the episode's remainder to work for me. "Daring Done?" isn't as bad, but it's easily the most disappointing Daring Do episode in that it never fully explores the potential of its relatively interesting premise (although some of the material surrounding Somnambula was pretty neat).
-
@Tacodidra I have polls for Season 1-7 if you're curious.
-
You just love to rain on everyone else's parade, don't you?
-
The more I thought about it, I've come to realize that "Parental Glideance" feels like the episode that "Newbie Dash" should have been. It's a celebration of the character that provides some insight into her upbringing and how far she's come in the show.
-
Merriwether Williams is definitely the most inconsistent writer to have worked on the show, in my opinion.
Some of her episodes were very good but she's also responsible for some of the show's worst episodes.
-
So, under a Republican controlled Senate, House, and President, we've had no less than three shutdowns in one year.
-
@Dark Qiviut @Tacodidra Is it me or has Pinkie Pie become the new Spike in terms of how hit and miss (mostly miss) her focal episodes have been?
-
@Dark Qiviut @Tacodidra Is it me, or does the already terrible "Non-Compete Clause" get even worse on rewatch?

I'd say these episodes aren't among my favorites either... I do like "Putting Your Hoof Down", though I can understand why a lot of people dislike it too. "Spike at Your Service" and "Owl's Well That Ends Well" are episodes that I liked a lot more than most people (especially the former had quite a few funny moments).

Seeing the post-Newbie Dash Wonderbolts episodes has definitely put it in perspective.

I didn't really find "Newbie Dash" a particularly good episode either, though it had some moments I liked (Pinkie's response to Rainbow Dash being called Crash is simply hilarious ). I agree the later episodes have been better – though I'd say the same about "Wonderbolts Academy" and "Rarity Investigates!" too, in spite of the Wonderbolts' portrayal not being completely positive in either episode...
-
I agree, though I found "Wonderbolts Academy" the most important episode for her character development. That episode also made her a lot more likable to me, and it nicely ties in with "The Washouts" (not only because of Lightning Dust but also other themes – RD having to deal with not being number one and how her friends are more important than anything else to her).
